After a frustrating loss at home against Baylor, K-State takes to the road for today's game against the Oklahoma Sooners. It's the beginning of a long stretch of conference games in which K-State will be favored, but for a team that bases its play so much on effort and intensity, it will be crucial to stay focused against some of the Big 12's lesser lights.

They're doing a lot better job feeding Ratliffe inside, too.
At least compared to their game against us. Ratliffe is 4-4 so far.
What we could do to Ratliffe and what UT can do are two completely different scenarios.

This is a game I really want to see JO play well in.
OU’s only player taller than 6’8" averages only 8 minutes per game. I really want to see us take advantage of that mismatch.

I just found the story about it. McPherson started all five starters and scored 23 points in the 4th quarter. No excuse for that. Horrible sportsmanship.
Sorry this whole thread got so long, as very few people probably care. That coach just always bothered me a lot, and not just because of that game that happened a couple years after I graduated.

Oklahoma rebounds pretty much every team it plays. That’s probably their biggest strength.Normally that’s balanced out by the fact that they’re not very good at shooting.

There was a stat in the 70's or 80's that stated road victories happen 30% of the time.
If you are on the road you have a 7/10 chance of losing in other words.

Here's a stat you don't see every day
Oklahoma had 22 missed field goal attempts. Kansas State had 21 offensive rebounds.
That’s a reflection of great effort by KSU, but also just how much better the Sooners shot than K-State today. I’d like to say it was just bad luck, their shot selection was infinitely better for most of the day.

Those teams are going to get killed on the road, too. ISU has a road win over a&m in college station, but that’s no better than winning @Tech at this point.
I still consider us the favorite to finish 4th. But hey, give us 6 or 7 more putrid efforts like today and we won’t.

useless projects
Before this embarrassment, I thought K-State would be able to sweep OU, OSU, A&M, and Tech, for 8 wins.
Figured BU would sweep after winning in Manhattan (0-2).
Hoping for splits against KU, ISU, UT (3-3).
Hoping for a sweep against MU (2-0).
Figured 13-5 or 12-6 and 4th in the league.
Now, until the Cats show a decent effort on the road, no reason to think these road woes will end. Couple that with an optimistic 7-2 home record and that’s not a very good season.
7-2 at home is highly probable.
As for the road … no idea until this team stops pissing down it’s leg on other teams home courts in the conference.

About the only good I can take from this game is that K-State did not play up to their potential today.

K-State played maybe its best game against Baylor and lost by 2.
OU should have been a sweep this year. At this rate, K-State may not win on the road in the Big 12 this season. Even at Tech.

Averages 10.9 ppg, had 18 today. So maybe I don’t blame him, but our big men for not being the best on defense.
The 12 steals by OU and the 18 TO's total for K-State probably had the most effect in the game.
Lazy passes will lose games for you.

Thank god I could fast forward through most of it.
The only positives were Nino and Jones.
We’re going to have real trouble with that kind of guard play. And I understand Angel must have sucked in practice this week and sulked around, but he is the only viable PG on this team. Spradling, Irving, and Shane are not going to get it done.
The real issue though was this was probably the worst defensive performance by a Frank Martin team. Yes, OU hit a ton of shots, but we created so few turn overs. There wasn’t the typical swarming intensity. Just really unfortunate to play like that after the Baylor loss. Time to readjust our goals and get this team back on track.
Pretty much.
Rodney did have a pretty decent game, actually. Just took him a while to find a bucket.
I really think JJ could sufficiently bring the ball up the floor, too. If nothing else, because of his sheer quickness.
Charles Barkley would say, “Dat der wuz a trbl effort on defense. Jus’ trbl.” OU hit shots because we weren’t recovering to the ball. Opened up the weak side of the floor for 10-15 footers, and easy post entry. Their bigs (Fitzgerald plays more like a 3 than a 4, and Osby on the block) just destroyed us.
