Bio

Position: Quarterback

Previous Colleges: Boston College; Blinn Junior College

Projection: Third-String

Status: On Scholarship

Justin DuJian Tuggle (b. Jan. 4, 1990) has a lot of people believing he can be the starter at quarterback at some point this season, but from what I saw in the spring game, I just don't see it. He's not Michael Bishop, folks.

That's not to say he can't be an effective backup or that he can't push Collin Klein to become a better starter. He is the son of the famed Jessie Tuggle, after all.

I fully expect that Tuggle made great strides in fall camp from where he was in April. I just don't think it will be enough.

Bill Snyder values experience above most everything else, unless you're a freak athlete like Bishop was.

Klein has more of it than any other quarterback on the roster, followed closely by Sammuel Lamur, who's been in the system just as long. It's too bad Tuggle already used his redshirt; I'd love for him to sit out this year and have two left.

More on the 2 deep at qb

in Kellis’ blog

I noticed yesterday there was a story in there by someone else (Kirk Seminoff?), so maybe there will be more reasons to link the blog stories as time goes on.

I almost feel bad for him

Just because he went to the same school as Bishop and Newton and is a dual-threat QB, some people seem to have these unrealistic expectations for him. One look at the stats of those three at Blinn is all you need to know how foolish that is.

I’d love to see Tuggle succeed and become a great Big 12 quarterback, but as far as I can tell he hasn’t done a whole lot on the football field to make that seem possible.

Coach Fran (who resigned after last year) didn't do him any favors...

He coached all three and was the one to make the comparison…I don’t remember where I read it, but I remember the quote. He did not say Tuggle was as good as the others but said he had a higher ceiling than Bishop and had more physical and natural ability than Newton.

After hearing Watt on Tuesday he didn’t really argue with that, but said there would never be another Bishop. I’m afraid that is he really does have a high ceiling, he won’t be here long enough to reach it.

How hard is it to get a medical redshirt...?

I was thinking the same thing...think we could get him to take a dive?

Popularly known as a medical redshirt, a hardship waiver may be granted an athlete who appears in fewer than 30% of his or her team’s competitions (with none coming after the midway point of the season), then suffers a season-ending injury. A player who is granted such a waiver is treated for the purposes of their eligibility as though he or she had not competed in that season.

Unless they require films and a second opinion from a Doc, let him play the first two games and then just stay down after a hard hit. :-)

I’m totally kidding by the way…though I may have “needed my inhaler” once in a game when we had run out of timeouts and were driving down the field.
