Bio

Position: Punter

Previous College: University of South Carolina

Projection: Starter

Status: Preferred Walk-On

Ryan Doerr (b. June 19, 1989) is, in my opinion, one of the most underrated punters in the nation. You don't hear much about him, but I would rate him behind only James Garcia and Tim Reyer based on his two seasons thus far.

Although projected backup Logan Ortiz appears to be a decent talent in his own right, there's no competition worth discussing here. More interesting to me is the chance that Doerr could challenge Anthony Cantele for kickoff duties.

With Cantele becoming the full-time place kicker now, it's possible Bill Snyder will want to reduce his work load in other areas, namely kickoffs. I'm not saying it's likely to happen, but even kstatesports.com mentioned the possibility.

Anyhow, Doerr is a badass who's never, as far as I know, failed to take the field for a punt, thus causing a safety. But he won't have the ever-reliable Corey Adams snapping to him anymore. Will we have some punts blocked this year?

Is that no-punter in place for a punt attempt at OU the most embarassing moment in KSU football history?

I’d say yes, but I don’t have as much experience with KSU football as others here.

I don't go before 1993, but since then, I'd have to say yes.

If Illinois State had converted that 2-pointer in the 2006 opener, that would have topped the chart for me as most embarrassing.

It’s tough to beat longsnapping a ball to nobody through the endzone.

It's still not even close to the most embarassing moment in KSU basketball history

Yeah, I remember the Pasco-fiasco, and Walker peeing on the court, which is why I kept it to football

I don't know snapping the ball thru the endzone...

With the punter on the sideline…I’d disagree

there are probably plenty prior to 1989

but I do not think anyone really remembers them, for various reasons.

Yes that was the most embarassing moment.

Most Embarrassing Stat

I wouldn’t know how to verify this, but I have a very distinct recall that in one of Snyder’s last years, four—FOUR—Wildcat placekickers missed at least one PAT. I noted it at the time and feel semi-confident that I am right.

You know, for all of our love of Bill, I thought at the time (and feel the same in retrospect) that he had lost a lot of his edge after the Championship season. The famous no-punter- on-the-punt episode wasn’t an isolated incident. He needed some time away.

Finally, Ryan Doerr was terrific last year, possibly responsible for a win or two. How is this guy not on scholarship?
