14 DAYS TO KICKOFF: Curry Sexton

#14 Curry Sexton |
Position: Wide Receiver Previous College: None Projection: Second-String Status: On Scholarship |
Curry Sexton (b. Aug. 16, 1991) grayshirted during the 2010 season, but he's far from a lock to redshirt in 2011 after the display he put on in the spring game, hauling in six catches for 72 yards with a long of 14.
And that was for the woeful White team, which was hampered by poor offensive line play, and the subsequently poor passes being thrown by Sammuel Lamur and Justin Tuggle. Sexton was by far their favorite target, though.
What was most impressive about Sexton's performance was how natural he looked running routes, considering he didn't really play the position in high school. Most of his time was spent at quarterback and free safety.
He proved to be especially dangerous from the slot position in short crossing routes.
Although he certainly could use a redshirt year to add a little weight to his frame, he has the speed and the skills to play now. So I think he will play now.
I project Sexton to be the primary backup to Tramaine Thompson in the slot, although signs now are starting to point toward Tyler Lockett possibly filling that role.
After all, Bill Snyder has shown he's not averse to forgoing redshirts for grayshirt players who can help the team immediately, such as Travis Tannahill, Braden Wilson and Ty Zimmerman.

Curry
i see from his recruiting bio he runs a 4.5 40—-does anyone know if this is legit and how this compares to other other ends.
I don't buy any of those numbers
I’m more interested in how he’ll do at the end of the speed-bump games (that means you too Jay-chickens!) and what he will look like as a 5th WR.
Boy I’m loving the depth we have at WR.

I watched him play in high school
and he was far and away the fastest player on the field.
If he DOES redshirt this season,
he would be a 21-year-old “freshman” next season. He would be a “grown man”, as Frank puts it, for every year of his eligibility. Not sure that is apropos of anything, it’s just something I noticed.
Improve every day. (Read it again. It has more meaning than what you first see.)
