Bio

Position: Wide Receiver

Previous College: Butler County Community College

Projection: Third-String

Status: Preferred Walk-On

Cole Bachamp (b. July 29, 1988) is vying with Ed Brown and Zach McFall for the honor of K-State's best walk-on wide receiver. You might think that isn't a battle worth paying attention to, but Jordy Nelson taught me otherwise.

The highlights of Bachamp's career are recording a catch in the UCLA game in 2009, starting in the Missouri game in 2010 and catching a 23-yard pass against Baylor that same year.

He did not catch any passes in the spring game, which would seem to suggest some sort of injury, given the number of unfamiliar wide receivers who did see playing time in that glorified scrimmage.

The lingering uncertainty over his status — as well as the return of Brodrick Smith and Tramaine Thompson, whose respective injuries opened the door for Bachamp to see playing time in the first place — is why I have him third-string.

Ok let's get one thing straight here...

Everyone likes to play up the romanticism of Jordy Nelson being a walk on, but I saw him at the state track meet his senior year. It’s not like he rose from the depths, infact I never actually understood why he wasn’t on scholarship in the first place.

See: Gates, Xavier

The ball was dropped. In our own damn backyard. If Jordy had gone to a large HS, he probably would have been on scholarship somewhere.

Remember he was a safety (corner?) when he joined the program and was rather mediocre. That said, if he had the exposure a large HS can offer, someone would have picked up on the raw talent and speed and offered him.

How do you think the boys at Pitt or Penn State are going to feel if Gates turns into a All-Conference or even Draftee?

When life hands you lemons, make grape juice. Let them wonder how the F*ck you did it.
