Arthur Brown Named to 2011 Nagurski Trophy Watch List
Kansas State junior linebacker Arthur Brown was named to the watch list for the 2011 Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the Football Writers Association of America and the Charlotte Touchdown Club have announced.
The Nagurski Trophy is awarded annually to the nation’s best defensive player. Brown is the first Wildcat to be named to the watch list since defensive end Ian Campbell was a preseason candidate in both 2007 and 2008.

I'm really starting to hope that the pre-season accolades plateau
I just wonder if it’s starting to get to the point of too much expectations. I mean seriously what is this awards committee basing this off of? It’s not like he left Miami with audacious stats or anything.
Do I think A. Brown will be a bust? Probably not. But that could turn into a bit of a relative term before long.
"Nor yet in Dell?"
I'm with you
100%. This kind of stuff makes me nervous. Extremely nervous.
We need Arthur Brown to not only come in and make an immediate impact in terms of speed, athleticism, passion and aggressiveness, but we need him to be a player that will elevate the entire defense and fit into the mold of old “Lynch Mob” linebackers like Mark Simoneau, et al. That much is obvious. But blowing this guy out of proportion before he measures up to the expectations may mean that even if he is productive people find him less-than-stellar due to all the over-sized hype.
When they speak of his character
They do make him sound like he’s pretty selfless, so I think he can put these things aside, but at some point you wonder if such saturation becomes too hard to dodge. Meaning I’m sure if he goes to the Big 12 media days, and every other interview before the first snap of the season he’ll be asked about what it feels like to be mentioned for all these awards.
"Nor yet in Dell?"
Keep in mind, there's like 100 guys on the initial watch list.
It’s like a shotgun blast to ensure that the eventual winner is someone they identified at the start of the season. Nothing more, really.
I'm always happy to see Wildcats get these kinds of national accolades
But really, I don’t agree with this kind of thing in general. He couldn’t get on the field at Miami, sat last year out, and now is suddenly on a watchlist for the best player in college football? Based on a single spring game, and rumors from coaches/players apparently.
I really hope he lives up to the hype that’s being generated right now, but I’d prefer to actually have something on the field to point to first.
Also based on the fact that our defense was so crappy last year there's no way he isn't on the field for the majority of plays.
That sort of thing = statistics galore.
