Laton Casper Dowling (b. June 26, 1991) is a player who many thought could find his way to the field in his inaugural season, as Tre Walker did.
Luckily, despite horrendous depth problems on the defensive line, the coaches were able to redshirt him, instead of throwing him to the Big 12 wolves.
He's already pretty damn big for a freshman, redshirt or not, and based on early returns from spring practice, he should have an impact on the upcoming season from at least a third-string perspective.
Rivals.com rated Dowling as the 49th-best weakside defensive end prospect in the class of 2010 and the 10th-best overall prospect in the state of Kansas, which was good enough for a three-star ranking.
