99 DAYS TO KICKOFF: Javonta Boyd
We're going to try something new here at BOTC, but it's a feature I did a few years ago at GPC and it was pretty popular then, so I expect positive feedback here, as well.
May 27 is an auspicious day, as it marks the first time this year that there are less than 100 days until the kickoff of the Eastern Kentucky game on Sept. 3.
Each day from now until then, I will count down this interminable desert ahead of us by profiling the player(s) whose number(s) match the number of days left until autumnal football bliss.
Normally, these will appear at midnight on their respective days, but I needed the Memorial Day weekend to get ahead on them in the story database, so this installment is quite a bit later than I prefer.
Follow the jump for No. 99, DT Javonta Boyd.

#99 Javonta Boyd |
Position: Defensive Tackle Previous College: Butler County Community College Projection: Third-String Status: On Scholarship |
Javonta Leron Boyd (b. Sept. 10, 1988) redshirted last season, ostensibly to lose some unproductive weight.
Considering how bad K-State's defensive woes were last year, especially in the front seven, that's not much of an endorsement of his abilities.
In the spring game, he operated primarily as a second-string defensive tackle alongside Brandon Harold on the White team. But Bo Tillman and Vai Lutui soon will arrive, seeking to unseat him from the two-deep.
If Boyd couldn't do enough to get on the field in 2010, when we basically had a three-man rotation on the defensive interior, I'm not optimistic about his chances of being an impact player this year, especially when we've added three players to the defensive front in the past two weeks.
In my reactionary opinion, his ceiling is second-string status. I'd be surprised if he starts a single game in 2011.

Neat Idea
I like it. It’s a lot of work, but it will help make the summer more spicy with the void of KSU sports, unless the bat cats go on some miracle run.
"Nor yet in Dell?"
Another 1-run win over Oklahoma keeps the BatCats rolling!
4-3 win means we play A&M at 1230 Saturday. We had several lucky breaks go our way to help us win but it may have put us into the NCAA’s.
I’m waiting for the next/last edition of the Adventures of the Big 12(with 12 teams) in which Colorado and Nebraska are officially kicked off the island.
GO STATE!!!!
Yeah, about that...
I may have accidentally sidetracked Panjandrum by getting him hooked on A Game of Thrones and its inordinately long sequels. My bad.

Just watch the HBO show
That’s about as condensed as you can get, in my opinion, and still understand the story.

How utterly cruel of you
You do realize it is going to be at least another 10 years before Martin finishes those things, right? If he doesn’t die first.

Spoken to someone who's been suffering in that regard since 2003.
Can’t help it, man. It’s like crack.
I am working on the final chapter, and I am reading 'A Song of Ice and Fire'.
I’m over 2000 pages into the 4500 page saga (I’m guesstimating on pages), and, my God, this may be the best set of books I’ve ever read.
I’ve been reading since the show’s premiere (4/17?), and I’m about a fifth of the way through book three. I’m averaging about 300 some pages a week, so at this rate, I may be caught up by the time the fifth book comes out this summer, and then I’ll probably need another few weeks on that one.
I’m guessing I’ll be caught up completely by Labor Day.
And, yes, these are like the longest books I’ve ever read. I’m reading on my phone during lunch, and then on my Nook at night when I have time.

It sounds like Harry Potter for big boys.
Oh yes, I went there…

Indeed. That was much my reaction when I was turned onto them. I gave Martin a hard time, but I want him to take as long as he wants as long as he keeps putting out quality work like he has so far.
I am just happy that he has written as much as he has (can’t wait for July 12). If he never finishes another book I will be content to have read what I have.
Although I don’t know what Martin has against happiness. Can’t something good happen? One measly little ray of sunshine? :(

Happiness is overrated--at least in literature.

Yeah, in Book 7.

At this point, I expect nothing from GRRM
I would not be surprised if Book 7 finished with the Others crushing the last human resistance as Winter permanently laid hold to the land for the Long Night Part II and the shadow grass from Asshai covered the world.
