Forget loyalty.
I have a hard time believing Maryland actually can give him a raise. He’s already the highest-paid assistant coach in college basketball.
It’s all about the money, baby. That’s why I always figured he’d only leave for a head coaching job.
Maybe the pull of home will be sufficient to get him to make a lateral move and work for a whiny douchebag like Turgeon. We’ll see.
re: About the money..
From Rob Cassidy on GPC…
Earlier today, a Maryland blog posted that Dalonte Hill was speaking with U of M. I made some calls today. Turns out, it’s true. We’re told Dalonte is seriously entertaining the idea of going home, possibly for significantly less money. As of now, I don’t think it’s a done deal or anything. It’s just talk.

The Marylad job and money
Sure he’d likely take a pay cut, but he’d get himself on a ladder (head coaching) that could get him potentially much more money. Where he’s at now (assitant coach), he’s pretty much maxed out. Also, beyond the money, when you’re an assistant coach, you want to be a head coach. I’m not saying money is irrelevant, but people usually want to move up in their careers.

How does taking the Maryland job move him up the ladder?
He’d be an assistant coach there as well—and for much less money.

Is it just me...
Or are you obsessed with the idea that “moving up the ladder” is the only reason these decisions are made. Everytime some coaching carousel starts you mention that. Jusayin

This reply is very confusing.
I was responding to Scott McKinney, who mentioned something about Dalonte “moving up the ladder” by going to Maryland. How does that make ME “obsessed with the idea that ‘moving up the ladder’ is the only reason these decisions are made”? I’m guessing this goes back to the whole Frank to Miami thing or something.
I guess I’ll ask YOU a question about it, then. Do you disagree that 95% of coaching moves ARE about getting a better gig? If so, please provide at least anecdotal evidence that this is true.

I am pretty sure his response
was to Scott McKinney and not you KSB.
It's not that I'm lazy; it's that I just don't care. (#739)
Maybe.
But Scott McKinney doesn’t post a lot here, so I think he was referring back to the whole “is Miami really a step up the coaching ladder” debate. I could be wrong, though.

Okay, re-reading it (again) and
I see that side as well. I would be better off staying out of this one:)

I ain't mad at him.

Sorry I just was trying to comment that...
You used that phrase a lot during the whole Hurrigate, my fail.

No worries.
You just seemed really angry about it for some reason, which was confusing to me.

I tend to be a pretty relaxed drunk
Unless I’m on the internet, then I’m confrontational and a bit of a douche. It’s a strange deal that I can’t explain.

Dalonte is actually the "Associate" head coach
which actually puts him up above a true assistant, so the only step to take now is to be a head coach. The only true draw for him is family/being close to home. And who knows, maybe his recruiting will pick back up now that he can see his old contacts more.
interesting
start adding up the $$ for how much that coaching staff is going to make.
If it is a good fit for Dalonte Hill, then his going to Maryland is something that I hope works out well for him. If he stays then I hope his time at K-State is a positive.
I think HCFM can find another coach to replace him, if he does go.
I guess I’m indifferent.

Hmm
I think that whole DC recruiting pipeline has dried up anyway.

This.
Who was the last major recruit he was primarily responsible for?

Probably Wally I guess?
Not to bring up that whole mess, because the guy was a major recruit. Not particularly his fault that didn’t pan out.

According to rivals...
Shane Southwell. Frank’s name was on him as well.

Yea, won't be too bothered either way here
I don’t think he has a lot to do with scouting/game planning/everyday coaching. Figger and Underwood I think are a little better in that. Although there’s a reason he’s paid what he’s paid. But it makes sense.
"Nor yet in Dell?"
Hey KSB!
Looks like we need to apply to Murray State for our coaching staff, since aTm (probably, might not go through, end disclaimer) hired Billy Kennedy as their new coach.

Petro just brought this issue up for a moment ...
Asked his crew if this should bring up any “alarm bells” … and there was general agreement that it probably should (kind of).
Alarm bells ringing for anyone here?
Not me.
Probably a case of a radio show talking about it without a full grasp of the context of Dalonte’s hiring and his subsequent raise.
by Itchy n Scratchy on May 16, 2011 11:50 AM CDT reply actions 1 recs
Or, it could just be a radio show trying to stir up their callers.
I don’t worry too much about what Dalonte decides to do. If he leaves, it won’t be TOO hard to find a coach of equal or greater ability for less money, so it’s not a big deal to me.

However, what Alarm Bells did they mention?
