K-State Slate: 5.13.11
Over the weekend, I sent SB Nation's Miami Dolphins blog, The Phinsider, a scouting report on Daniel Thomas. They're not all in love with the pick, but they appreciated the information.
The NCAA held an "Enforcement Experience" summit to give journalists a behind-the-scenes perspective on NCAA enforcement. Seth Davis has his biggest takeaways from the experience.
While I tend to agree that we pay coaches too much in college athletics, this article is a pretty sorry commentary on Texas politicians. A bunch of them are all worked up because Rick Barnes got a raise when the State of Texas is facing a huge budget crisis. I guess they either forgot, don't realize, or conveniently ignored that Barnes' salary is funded by a corporation that runs Texas athletics, not the State of Texas. That would be like me complaining that someone in an engineering firm across town got a raise while my company is laying off workers.
Sorry, that's all I can find today. The TCJ has nothing new today, so there really must be nothing new on the K-State front.

More improvements
to Bill Snyder Family Stadium on the horizon, as per the Mercury.
lots of stuff in there
Besides the press box and an athletics’ portal
Also listed as components to the project:
• A central ticket office.
• Expanded revenue and suite seating areas
• Kitchen/commissary facilities
• Training table/dining hall
• Modern broadcast, electronic and print media areas
• Safety and security/ADA upgrades
I’ll be interested to see if we have some cool designs instead of McStadium.

I do know Currie really wants to
tie in the identity of the stadium with the rest of the campus, So I’m sure limestone will abound in the huge new space. My little brother said it’s going to be conditioned space for most of the concourse level. Just as long as they don’t mount something on 80’ pedestals like the chief’s new skybox. Hopefully it will look more like it’s own integrated structure than a spaceship on stilts.
"Nor yet in Dell?"
Oh, and I hope
It blows the gridiron club miles away. I’m actually surprised on how fast they’re moving on from one project to another. I figured the bathrooms would be spaced a year apart after the construction of the practice facility, and this press box thing would be where it is now, a year from now as well.
"Nor yet in Dell?"
Several reasons for the accelerated timeline:
1. Take advantage of competitive construction prices in this economy.
2. Take advantage of construction equipment already being on site for other projects.
3. Thanks to the new TV deal, we’re rich, beeyotch. ADJC is very wise to spend the cash and reinvest it in future revenues.
well I understand why it's accelerated, but
1. you’re right it’s good value now to deflate a bid, but with rising fuel costs so to goes dirtwork, steel and concrete prices, so construction costs will be up between now and the start of construction
2. Unless the same contractor (for the bball facility or the turf) gets the West side job, they can’t take advantage of the equipment on site. Obviously the turf crew is not even applicable. The other contractor might be of size to handle such a project, but they have to win the bid and be selected by KSU before that. And even at that a lot of companies rent equipment, so this essentially not applicable.
3. You’re right, timing is right to invest in future revenue streams.
But yea, I was just overall surprised that it’s come this soon. I’m excited. Always up for stadium enhancements!

Re: Barnes
I like how sarcastic the writer is on that article about just how clueless the politicians are. I think it’s funny how they put all those quotes, just to end it with a fact:
The Texas athletic budget is separate from the academic budget, and Barnes’ raise does not include tax money. Texas officials note that the university’s new $300 million contract with ESPN will send millions of dollars toward academics.
I guess the politicians forgot about that last part…
Surgeon General's Warning: K-State-Mizzou basketball may increase the risk of high blood pressure. Please consult your doctor prior to watching any of these games.
They always do when they're pandering to the uninformed masses.
I guess the politicians forgot about that last part…
Polticians misconstruing reality to seize an opportunity to thrust themselves into the spotlight!?!?!
Inconceivable!

Good work TB
The Miami fans are not in love with the pick, and to be honest, I wouldn’t be either unless my team (which does happen to be the Chefs) had a burst guy to pair with the grinder. What they’re not seeing is how shifty he was at KSU. Remember the ISU game? How many times did one or two ISU players have him tackled, only for him to move that great big body smoothly out of the way and squeeze out another couple of yards? Yeah, maybe he won’t be able to do that in the NFL, but he does have it in his toolbox.
Also, that was a FANTASTIC picture of CC at QB. Chucking the ball with his eyes closed? Perfect.

Burst guy? Did someone call this dude?

I don't watch the NFL.
But the first team to realize a Thomas-Sproles 1-2 punch would be unstoppable will become my favorite team.

And the Dolphins...
Have pretty much a wide open shot at making that happen.

I don't pay much attention to player movement in the NFL until it is done
Is Sproles leaving SD?

Well it's likely they won't sign him back
They took two RB’s with returning capabilities in the draft…all but spells his end there.

The baseball team has an All-American. I had no idea.
http://www.kstatesports.com/blog/2011/05/allen-stops-them-all.html – by the way, I think everyone should sign up for KSSEs in their mailboxes. They’re usually interesting, and they’re free.

Turns out the rumors were true about the W side of the BSFS additions
Joe Schad just said on ESPN that Tate Forcier could be looking at K-State again
Now that he is officially ‘not’ going to Miami. Also said AZ could be in the mix.

Bring it on Tate!
Come to KSU where Coach Snyder will quickly whip you of that me-first attitude, and then you’ll fit right in at Transfer-U!
