Oh, The Joy of a Great Jump Shot! (And a Nice Mention for a K-Stater)

Many have tolerated my rantings about the artistry (and usefulness) of a great jump shot. Apparently I’m not alone. More after the jump.

The Jimmer’s great jump shot from last week made the cover of Sports Illustrated.

Note how the article compares the lift in the jump shot to the lift in the cover photo of Rolando Blackmun from the 1981 game where KSU upset Oregon in the NCAA tourney. I linked to the same Sports Illustrated cover in one of my comments about how there just aren’t many really good jump shooters, who have this kind of lift, in the college game anymore. To me, the fact that a guy can jump like this and be an accurate shooter is amazing. I would rather watch shots like this, and Blackmon’s, and Michael Jordon’s in the Georgetown game, all night than seeing some 6'-10" guy dunk. More athleticism and skill involved with the great jump shot.

This is a nice prop for KSU and Blackmon.
