Jacob Pullen Tribute
It's hard to make a video that really encapsulates everything that makes a fan base love a player, but MobDeep did it.
This pretty much says it all.
Fear the Beard. We'll miss you, man.

Thanks.
It got real dusty in my living room as I watched this.

So glad I was able to watch Jacob play
in person while i was in school. My wife and I graduated last may and bought season tickets for this year. We will be in Bramlage the day his jersey is hoisted. Great tribute video.
To say it again
Jake, we wish your non-Senior teammates would have been able to send you out a little better in their last game. But I hope you know how much you’ve meant to the average K-state fan in the last 4 years. You’ve set the standard high for both playing and character, you were one helluva bball player, and guy as well.
Video gave me goosebumps at times, thought it was well done.
"Nor yet in Dell?"
4 years...
This makes me think back to the excitement we had with that incoming freshman class – Beasley, Walker, Sutton, possibly Mayo and others. Pullen was an afterthought – a supporting cast member. 4 years later, he has made more of an impact on our university than any of them.
Thank you, Jake, for the tenacity, the passion, the beard, and most of all for reminding the country – and those of us who had forgotten – what it means to be a Wildcat.
Unbelievable.
That video says it all. To see the transformation from a small freshman just having a lot of fun and being secondary to Beasley and Walker to the heart and soul and rejuvenation of Kansas State basketball has been one of the most rewarding sports watching experiences I can remember. I am so grateful for Jake choosing to play in purple. Career’s like his and people like him remind one why sports are so great to begin with. I don’t expect to see another Jacob Pullen for a long, long time, which is painful to know, but there’s no doubt this program is headed great places in many ways due to him.
Additional thanks to Curt, whose up and down senior season shouldn’t obscure our recognition of his strong play in big games and his overall passion and appreciation for being a Wildcat.
Fantastic Video
Thanks for digging everything up and putting it all together! I was waiting for something like this.
Jacob Pullen didn't deserve the Final Four; the Final Four deserved Jacob Pullen
The kid was a winner. He was a competitor. He was a man that shined the brightest when the stage was the biggest, and he did it by being a complete player on offense and defense. He was the human manifestation of EMAW.
When people look back at the resurrection of K-State basketball, they’ll point to the hiring of Bob Huggins, Mike Beasley, Bill Walker, and Frank Martin. But no one should underestimate the contributions of Jake. He, more than any other player in the past 25 years, has embodied and elevated the expectations of a fan base that yearned for a return to winning basketball an a proud tradition.
When his jersey is raised to the rafters, I want to be there. If my son (by the grace of God) plays basketball, I want him to play like Jacob Pullen.
No one has meant more to us with his blood, sweat, and tears than Jake. When Kellis, ignorantly, mentioned the ‘good things’ he did, he grossly underestimated the adjective. Jacob Pullen didn’t do good things. He did great things. He did amazing things.
Thank you, Jake. I wish you would have gotten to the Final Four. Not because I wanted K-State to get there, but because the world deserved to see you shine on that stage. I wish you nothing but the best, and I hope you remember your last four years as fondly as we will for as long as we watch K-State basketball.

Very well put.
And I really hope Jake gets to read some of the things people are saying about him, and the video that you posted here.
I remember watching him as a freshman, in a game where he was struggling a bit. I’d really talked him up as having a lot of potential to a friend of mine who went to Fort Hays, and only occasionally catches a K-State game. He had made a point to watch that game, and called me during it, wondering what I saw in Jake. I told him something like, “You watch. After Beasley and Walker are gone, this kid’s going to be here. He’s a four year guy, and I think he’s going to be really good before he’s through.” What an understatement! As I mentioned in my own tribute, Jake’s the best player I’ve ever had the chance to watch at KSU.

When that final buzzer sounded, my heart broke...
And it wasn’t because we lost. It was because I’ll never get to see him play for K-State again.
Life will go on. New players will be on the roster, and I’ll be just as adamant a fan as I am today. But I’ll always hold a special place in my fan heart for Pullen. His grit and his guts. His skill and his showmanship.
In some very strange way, I hope someday, after his professional career is over, he comes back to Manhattan to coach in some capacity. I mean that. This program, and university, is better when Jake Pullen is a part of it.

Looks like he's trying to get it put back up, somewhere.
Hopefully the original soundtrack stays.

That fricking sucks.
And it’s also a symptom of why the music industry is in decline.

So we had Fear the Beard for the last couple years...
I propose for next year we adopt…
“Believe in the Sleeve”
Assuming that Will is still wearing it next year
How about

That was great, thanks ...
I missed it. somehow.
Usually, when you see characteristics in someone, you can say “He gets that from his mother.” or “He gets that from his father.” It’s pretty clear that Jake got a double-dose of charisma from both his mother and father. No wonder he’s so likeable.

I’m glad we have a family like that associated with KSU.
I especially loved the “YOUR SON” part.

If not the NBA, Pullen says he is open to playing in Europe.
“Definitely. I’m keeping my options open and I want to play basketball. It’s what I love to do,” said Pullen. “When playing is over, (grinning) I hope Frank has a job for me on his staff.”
That's awesome!
I was hoping that Jake was interested in coaching!

Finally got to watch this tonight...
Wow – nice tribute video. Simply awesome. It’s been 9 days since his last second of playing time as a Wildcat ticked off the clock and at the time I told myself I had no idea how impressive, fun, and rare the four-year-run was that I had just watched Pullen put together. Today, it’s even more impressive and rare in my mind and I still feel I’m not even close to fully appreciating it. In today’s game, at Kansas State University, with the dollars the NBA can throw at a guy, I feel confident in saying I will not see Pullen’s scoring record at Kansas State University broken in my lifetime! Additionally, it seems highly unlikely to me that anyone will combine the scoring, the big-game performances, and the heart for the game and program into one 6’1" bearded frame full of personality like we enjoyed with Pullen.

Other than the struck-through portion, might that not perhaps describe young Spradling after his senior year? And I have a feeling the scoring side of things might pick up quite a bit (say to 10 or 11 points) next year. Not enough to catch Jake in four years, but still, the kid showed a lot of heart this year. That’s why I hate that Frank kind of threw him under the bus during the post-game presser.

As much as I don't like guys being thrown under buses...
I don’t think that is what Frank is doing. Yeah, it seems like he plays mind games/calls out his players too much, but on the other hand it is obvious that he is really respected by his players. Maybe, in combination with his behind the scenes coaching, it works to motivate a player to do better.
Not to mention there shouldn’t be anything wrong with holding players accountable for their bad/lazy play. I don’t think there is anything wrong with doing it publicly unless all you ever do is criticize the guy, but Frank always has nice things to say about his players publicly, too.
Of course, there have been a high number of defections from Martin’s program, so maybe it is a hit-or-miss strategy.

All I'm saying is it seemed out of place after the last game of the season.
Especially when the kid played his heart out on defense. But I don’t have any problem with his holding kids accountable, that’s for sure.

He didn't "throw Will under the bus."
He challenged him to learn from his mistakes and become a better player.
Which, contrary to popular belief at the time, is precisely what he was doing to Jacob Pullen when he yelled at him constantly during his freshman and sophomore seasons.
And look how that turned out.
I don't have a problem with challenging Will.
I just wish he would do it in private, and not at the press conference, that’s all. It just made it seem like he was scapegoating Will somewhat. I think it’s probably just something he did in the emotion of the moment, as a defense of Jake.
