Can your defense stop explosive offenses?
ESPN Big 12 blogger David Ubben had this nice little post a few days ago about how important offense is in winning the Big 12. I don't have too much problem with Ubben, but his posts tend to usually be a little light on the analysis side, and he usually just re-posts stories you could find anywhere else. This however was a pretty interesting one, and it was interesting to see that KSU, in a surprise to everyone I'm sure, ranked dead last in the number of big plays they gave up on defense last year with 69, +8 on the next worse offender Oklahoma. Unfortunately, our offense was unable to make-up for the lack of defensive effort, unlike Oklahoma, and as such we were also second to last in differential (-12), just ahead of 'ol KU (-18) and tied with Texas. Oklahoma finished (+15). Looking back, it is a wonder we won as many games as we did.
