OSU in the East, KU in the Southwest, Pitt in the Southwest, Duke in the West.
Screw you, Notre Dame.
0 Big 12 teams and 4 Big East teams
This violates all previous seeding laws as we knew them. Fracking Big East.
When they have the studio shot
Look on the right side…. Nice KSU Wildcat logo in plain veiw for the world to see!!!

East Region:
1. Ohio State
16. play-in (UTSA/Alabama State)
2. North Carolina
15. Long Island
3. Syracuse
14. Indiana State
4. Kentucky
13. Princeton
5. West Virginia
12. play-in (UAB/Clemson)
6. Xavier
11. Marquette
7. Washington
10. Georgia
8. George Mason
9. Villanova
Early analysis
Mason will kill Nova. Guaranteed.
Georgia wasn’t even close to the bubble.
I think Colorado might be screwed if crap teams like UAB and Clemson are in already.
How sage
this insight was, BC.

I meant North Carolina-Washington.
Kentucky and Washington can’t meet until the regional final. Fingers got ahead of the brain again.
I think we are in the West

More important, how is it possible for them to meet another Big East team in the second round?
I thought that was ABSOLUTELY against the seeding rules.
This committee was smoking crack rocks.
Agree, especially considering they played just as crappy a non-con as Alabama or Colorado.
Mixed messages from the committee.
My theory: No ugly losses boosted us to a 5 seed. I'm impressed.
Maybe it will be a good thing to get the 1 seed in the Sweet 16 instead of the Elite 8, if we even get them.
Trying to find the positives here. Really wanted that 6 seed SJU got. Bet they got dropped b/c of the DJ Kennedy injury.
I really REALLY like our spot.
First, I’m not impressed with Utah State. You and I even talked about the fact that the committee shows them more respect than they deserve in the BOTCetology thread. And I don’t think Wiscy sees the second round.

For a team that never seems to win first-round games, yes.
And I agree. Belmont scares me more. Wisky can’t win away from the Kohl Center and often can’t even make it respectable.
I hate that aspect of our seeding.
We win against Utah State, and we get (a) a team that sent Jacob Pullen home his freshman year, or (b) a team I want no part of whatsoever.
My new blog: Those Other Guys. Critiques welcome.
Belmont won't win more than once in the tournament.
If they beat Wiscy (and I think they will), I think we’re a Sweet 16 lock. And Wiscy and their POS offense don’t scare me much either.

Plus if anything, extra motivation for Jake is a good thing against Wisconsin.
But one game at a time, one game at a time…
I too found humor in that
But I think they just might be good enough to win a first round game…just because I think Coach Anderson is good for at least that. I don’t think he’s a great coach by any stretch, but for some reason, I think he’s good for a tourney win every year.
"Nor yet in Dell?"
That and it seems Cinncy
is widely regarded as over-rated at the 6-line. OH how I hope the Big East flops again this tourney season!
'Fact. Bears eat beets. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.' --Jim Halpert
yea and I think Cincy
quietly made it up to where they finished. I think they started out having a relatively slow year. Although maybe there are some people in Southern Ohio saying the same thing about K-state. I’m not overly dialed in to teams outside of the big 12.
"Nor yet in Dell?"
Actually, they were one of the last undefeated teams this year.
The problem is that they played a weak non-conference.
well, there you go...
I’ll just stop making assumptions sounds like would be the better route for me at this point
"Nor yet in Dell?"
West Region:
1. Duke
16. Hampton
2. San Diego State
15. Northern Colorado
3. UConn
14. Bucknell
4. Texas
13. Oakland
5. Arizona
12. Memphis
6. Cincinnati
11. Missouri
7. Temple
10. Penn State
8. Michigan
9. Tennessee
Preliminary thoughts:
Arizona and UConn appear to be the most dangerous teams here, but you still have to respect Duke and Texas. San Diego State is an interesting wild card.
Gotta like the committee making Josh Pastner, an Arizona guy, play Arizona.
Mizzou has to beat two big East teams just to get to the Sweet Sixteen. If I was Mike Anderson, I’d just go to Arkansas now and get it over with.
CO vs VT playin game
thoughts? thats what i am calling

Swing-and-a-miss!
Though I would agree both of those teams SHOULD be in and got shafted…
'Fact. Bears eat beets. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.' --Jim Halpert
I'd take CU
in that matchup… though it’s tough to really put anything serious behind that because CU can give up points to anybody.
'Fact. Bears eat beets. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.' --Jim Halpert
Not sure CU will care now that their hearts are broken.
The NIT is always a total crap-shoot for that reason.
I always figured
an NCAA-snub should have great motivation to win and be crowned the 66th (now 69th) best team in the country, so-to-speak. But any team that wins the NIT, in 20/20 hindsight, should have been in over the first early flame-out in the Tournament…

I think they'll lose in the first or second round,
for exactly that reason. And idiots like Dan Dakech will crow about it.

The committee surprising a bunch thus far.
UNLV as an 8?
Agreed...
UNLV is pretty good, but not great and not overly impressive. 8-seed? Sounds about right by the VC-eye-test.
'Fact. Bears eat beets. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.' --Jim Halpert
UNLV always ends up as an 8 or a 9 in KU's pod.
Happened last year. Happened in 2008 in Omaha. It’s crazy. They love torturing Lon.
Tough to beat a team
3 times?
Oh wait, that’s a debate on a different thread? And relating to within one season?
Oh, ok then.
/intentional OT tangent

I don't mind that seeding,

"To all the fake fans that just jump on and off the bandwagon who think we suck go cheer for somebody down the road then" -JP
We're gonna get screwed.
Texas, Missouri and Texas A&M all got lower seeds than expected. The committee obviously over-respects the Big Ten and under-respects the Big 12, despite Beebe being in the room.
I think CO is F-ed
"To all the fake fans that just jump on and off the bandwagon who think we suck go cheer for somebody down the road then" -JP
Yeah. Things not looking good for them.
Ridiculous is they don’t get in and some of these other teams do.
Southwest Region:
1. Kansas
16. Boston University
2. Notre Dame
15. Akron
3. Purdue
14. St. Peter’s
4. Louisville
13. Morehead State
5. Vanderbilt
12. Richmond
6. Georgetown
11. play-in (USC/VCU)
7. Texas A&M
10. Florida State
8. UNLV
9. Illinois
Thoughts:
KU got an easy road to the Final Four, IMO. Notre Dame is a team they match up very well with. Purdue is questionable right now. Louisville might be their biggest challenge.
Richmond over Vanderbilt is a blatantly obvious 12-5 candidate. Will it happen to the ’Dores two years in a row?
Looks like aTm will win their requisite one game again. FSU is depleted.
Weird fact: Illinois could play two of its former coaches in a row. Lon Kruger and Bill Self.
Quick name a good team USC beat....
I cant think of one

I thought Lunardi was loopy this year.

Wisconsin, BYU, Zaga, Butler, Florida.
A bunch of old friends here.
Getting swept by Virginia? Yes, I guess you could call that horrible luck.
I call it a mediocre team.
True, but still better than VCU, UAB, and (in my opinion) Penn State.

Note to Colorado and Alabama.
Play a better non-con next year. Pretty clear message from the committee.
Southeast Region:
1. Pittsburgh
16. play-in (UNCA Asheville/Arkansas-Little Rock)
2. Florida
15. UC Santa Barbara
3. BYU
14. Wofford
4. Wisconsin
13. Belmont
5. Kansas State
12. Utah State
6. St. John’s
11. Gonzaga
7. UCLA
10. Michigan State
8. Butler
9. Old Dominion
Thoughts:
I think guys have covered most of the angles so far, but here’s a few more.
I like that there aren’t any majorly athletic teams in the region like Colorado, other than Florida, who we’re well aware of.
Now that might seem crazy, given our struggles with Wisconsin and Butler in the past. But that was a different offensive system. I think our new pinch-post offense, if executed correctly, will help us to match up better in the halfcourt against those teams.
Plus, we have Jake. There are very few players in this field that he can’t match up with defensively.
Pitt is notorious for falling out in the second (now third) round or the Sweet Sixteen. That bodes well for us if we make it that far. We can play Pitt’s style — a slowdown, brawling mud fight.
If BYU still had Davies, they could have made hay in this region. As it is, they still might face rematches with Florida and K-State, but both look difficult now.
St. John’s has not played well when it has to fly west, losing to St. Mary’s and UCLA. Doesn’t bode well for the match-up with the resurgent Zags. I half expect a BYU-Gonzaga preview of next year’s WCC action, which would be a sad ending for a great Red Storm season.
I don’t have a clue who will win the UCLA-MSU game. Could easily see either team. Same goes for Butler-ODU.
Lunardi whiffed on at least four bubble teams.
He had Colorado, Alabama, Virginia Tech, St. Mary’s in.
What doesn't make sense to me is we were seeded higher than anyone had us as a 5.
And yet the team that beat us three times doesn’t even get in.
Not sure I consider it whiffing ...

Should have beat Iowa State and Oklahoma, then.
Colorado’s resume is littered with ugly losses. Tough shit.
He's got company talk down.

No. It's rare to face a Top 15 ranked 12 seed.
But I think it’ll be okay. They’re not as good as their ranking.
Top 25, not Top 15.
We have the athletic advantage. They have the experience advantage. Somewhat similar to Butler or Wisconsin, teams that have knocked us out (and that we might rematch).
But Utah State just isn't that good.
I see them as about a 6-10 to 7-9 level in the Big 12.

yea I saw a SOS of 122
So give some of us not as dialed in folk a comparison to a big 12 team that had that type of SOS…did Iowa State even have something that low? Baylor maybe? But I don’t want to beat that horse too dead, I mean we all remember what they’d say about the Calipari Memphis teams who didn’t play anyone…they cheated ;)
"Nor yet in Dell?"
Checked RealTime
And, compare USU’s SOS of 120 to…
Wichita State 107
St. Mary’s 100 (who they lost to)
Iowa State 86
Colorado 49 (I think we would all agree a Colorado USU game would favor CU)
Baylor 48
I think the St. Mary’s and WSU comparisons are good. I’d say comparable talented leagues (WCC definitely more competitive than WAC), MO valley probably pretty close (maybe a slight edge to Valley). How would you feel facing either of those on a neutral court? I’d like our chances.
After scratching the surface, I do think the comfort level is a little more bearable than the instant reaction.
Although I think the Aggies will be plenty motivated for sure. I would feel like a KSU 12 pt victory…one that’s like a 7pt game at 1 min left, but foul shots inflates final score.
"Nor yet in Dell?"
I disagree a bit.
I think it will be a 12-point game, where we led by 20 or so at some point. I really think Pomeroy is going to look stupid, making USU a 61% favorite to beat us.

Teams missing the NIT is never wow.
A lot of times, teams will simply say “no thanks” either because they just don’t want to play, or because they only want to play if they can host, and they can’t get a guarantee to host.
I would be willing to bet Baylor was “invited”.

Possible. Stupid, but possible.
Snubbing the NIT after not getting a Big Dance Ticket is a long and storied tradition. But if you’re willing to play in the NIT, snubbing one of the other essentially meaningless tournaments is completely pointless.
My new blog: Those Other Guys. Critiques welcome.
Maybe so.
Which, again, would indicate they told the NIT thanks but no thanks.
I mean, Ole Miss got invited to the NIT. I can’t imagine that happened ahead of a willing Baylor. On the other hand, Nebraska being the highest at-large seed in the Virginia Tech bracket is admittedly an argument in the other direction.
My new blog: Those Other Guys. Critiques welcome.
But how could they possibly feel SNUBBED by the NCAA?
They were 7-9 in conference, and had a TERRIBLE RPI.

Welp, a Texas TV station is reporting that they did not, in fact
receive a call from the NIT.
On further review, however, I think I understand why: 14 regular-season conference champs bit it in their conference tournaments, meaning the NIT had 14 automatic bids to deal with. For comparison’s sake, the previous record was EIGHT.
My new blog: Those Other Guys. Critiques welcome.
You confused yourself, my brother.
You just added the auto-bids to the auto-bids. (Technically, the NIT has 31 auto-bids, but obviously some number of them are a little too busy to participate.)
Here’s the at-large list, gapped by seed:
1
Colorado
Virginia Tech
Boston College
Alabama
2
Miami (FL)
Washington State
Cleveland State
3
Colorado State
Oklahoma State
Dayton
4
New Mexico
California
Northwestern
Wichita State
5
UTEP
Ole Miss
Nebraska
6
Harvard
This, of course, is screwy anyway, since I figure Harvard should have been a 2-seed in the NIT, but whatever.

Ok, KSB...
here is why Utah State is scary to me (for a 12-seed…)
1. GREAT defensive rebounding team.
2. SOLID free throw shooting team.
3. DEFEND the 3-point shot very well.
These are based on a quick perusing of kenpom ratings and my 3 or 4 viewings of USU games this year…
'Fact. Bears eat beets. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.' --Jim Halpert
These numbers
are related to my post above…
1. 2nd in nation against offensive reboudning by kenpom
2. 48th in FTA/FGA by kenpom & 50th in FT%
3. 11th in country in 3P% allowed.
We better be sure to bring good-CK and good-JamSam to the game or we will be in trouble as it seems the stats say USU should be able to shut down our perimeter shooters. But then again, once the tip-off happens all these numbers and analysis frequently mean exactly squat. :-P
'Fact. Bears eat beets. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.' --Jim Halpert
As well they should be
as fans of a Top 20 team.
I was immediately convinced of this by the faces of their players when selected. I truly believe the shock on their faces was due to the 12-seed not KSU being their opponent…
'Fact. Bears eat beets. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.' --Jim Halpert
They're only a Top 20 team because they racked up 30+ wins against a bunch of nobodies.
One win over a RPI Top 50 team tells me that. They’re an 8-8 team in the Big 12 at best, and that gets you a 12 seed.
Having watched them play,
I think they would fit quite nicely in the Nebraska/OSU/TTU/OU jumble.

And the reasons Wisconsin does not scare me (for a 4-seed)
1. DEFENSE does not force turnovers. (322nd turnover PERCENTAGE by kenpom)
2. DON’T get to the line very often – I’m sure they’ll shoot more than their average vs us, but likely less than the average we give per game. (336th in FT’s attempted per FG attempt by kenpom)
3. DON’T defend the 3-point shot very well (hello Gruber, Rod, and Jake!!). (315th 3-point % allowed by kenpom)

Do you mean Rodney, Jake, and Sprads?
Then again, if we have to divide Rodney’s 3-pointers into two categories, we should be fine.
Hahaha...
yes, I do mean Rod, Jake, and Sprads… I wouldn’t mind having a clone of Rod on the team. But I like some Spradling too.

No. 3 is why Belmont will win.
IIRC, Belmont is one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the country.
Yes, they are
but 3-point shooting is the least consistent way you can count on to win games in March, in my opinion. One bad night shooting the longest shots in the game and you’re toast.
However, when you rely on 3’s and the opponent has shown difficulty defending the 3-ball – well now you’re in business. See also – Penn State went 2-0 vs Wisconsin this year, and if the Big 10 tourney was any indication PSU is quite adept at jacking up 3 point shots…

Thoughts on the day
1. Still great to see HCFM and the ’Cats are a bit of a media darling. Great exposure for the program, as well as the University as a whole. I have to think two years in a row of such great basketball exposure in the Tournament (like the CBS confidential thing last year) helps get our brand out to the East Coast (namely DC & north) more than football does.
2. In our bracket, I think having the 6th seed woulda been better than the 5th, but still nice to see the selection committee showing us some love. Proof it pays to schedule tought.
3. How many years now has UNLV been paired up to play KU now after the 1/16 8/9 games? I feel like this is the 3rd time now.
4. Feel bad for CU. Not only do they have the 3 wins against us, but they do have a win over Texas. But I see some of the comments above reasons why. Would like to know if USC has 4 top 50 wins. Either way, how do they not make the top 68? I did see their RPI was still like 69 or 70 though…Also some of their bad losses early in the season were true road games (like @ SanFran), which is tough for any first year coach. Either way Tad probably wishes he could outfit his Buffs in the No. Colorado uniforms. Oh well, happy trails Buffs! Glad to know they don’t stand in the way of our Nat’l title hopes.
5. Lastly, out of all 12 seeds I don’t like the feel of Utah State. Although I haven’t watched them play, I have paid close attention to their team through the year about who they beat. On the surface they seem dangerous. Wouldn’t surprise me to get bounced in the opening round, esp since I thought they’re in So. Utah (could be wrong), so not too far to go to AZ, plus they seem to have a passionate fan base anyway.
6. And finally, regardless I’m not using any reason this year as to where I think K-state will go. Honestly I think getting to the Sweet 16 will be a huge accomplishment, but I want Jake to get at least 1 TROPHY for his career, so I’m sticking them in the final four.
All in all, a great day to be a Wildcat. What would you have thought at the end of January about someone saying we’d be a 5 seed?

well good.
I was WAY off!
After reading through some of the comments, I too now find comfort in knowing KSB’s not worried in USU, as he said it himself:
He’s one of the biggest pesimists on the board.
Which is exaclty what I was thinking before I saw him write it himself! But I don’t expect to see us win it big, that’s for sure.
"Nor yet in Dell?"
Yeah.

7. As down as College Basketball was this year, think about the train wreck of a bracket that would of been if they decided to go to the 96-team format. Barf! I think this year probably makes a lot of people happy it ended up the way it did.

Is being drunk on Duke Wine any better?
At least Notre Dame played in a good conference. Neither won a regular-season championship, so that’s a wash.
Duke is better than ND. And they won their conference tournament in dominating fashion.
And Duke is 30-4. And they’re better than ND. Did I mention that?

They're 30-4 because the ACC is terrible.
They won their conference tourney in dominating fashion because the ACC is terrible.
Yes, they’re better than Notre Dame, but they shouldn’t be a 1 seed.
Who should?
San Diego State? And the ACC isn’t “terrible.” It’s just not a GREAT conference this year. They also played a pretty decent non-con. And Notre Dame is 26-6. I forgot that part in my post. But, seriously, who do you put on the 1-line ahead of them? If the ACC is “terrible” in your mind, what is the MWC?

I'm gonna go there:
Less terrible than the ACC, at least this year.
More seriously, I’d say, they were about even. Each league had two great teams up top, followed by one pretty good team. The ACC, a significantly larger conference, had three good teams behind that; the MWC had two. Both conferences had three really bad teams. That leaves the absolute mediocrities, which cancel one another out.
It was not a year the ACC will point to when regaling you with tales of their storied history, let’s just put it that way.

So are you saying that an SDSU team (which I think is OVERseeded at a 2) should have been ahead of Duke?

by K. Scott Bailey on Mar 14, 2011 12:53 AM CDT up reply actions
Yes, I am.
Look, SDSU lost two games all year, both to BYU. One problem I have with a LOT of people come this time of year is the complete failure to grasp that only losing 2 or 3 games over the course of a season is serious business, because if you’re not an elite team you’re going to lose more than that just as a result of bad bounces, bad calls, off nights, whatever. If Ohio State played Alcorn State 30 times this year, I’d bet my entire net worth on Alcorn knocking them off once or twice. It does not matter who you play. I don’t care what crappy conference you play in, I don’t care what sort of shitty non-conference slate you scheduled. You win 30 games, you’re damned good; you win 30 games in any kind of decent conference and actually have a little something on your resume, you’re on the board for a 1-seed.
It’s funny. Approximately one year ago, I went off on a rant regarding this topic as it pertained to at-large berths because nobody was even looking at Murray State on the bubble. All they did after making that discussion academic was to knock off Vanderbilt and then lose to the eventual national runners-up by a single basket. There’s a point at which a team has won so many games that questions regarding their SOS become moot, and SDSU is well beyond that point.
My new blog: Those Other Guys. Critiques welcome.
Great points, Jon
and Utah St. has proven they know how to win a conf. title and a post season tourney title. 3 losses all year. Should be interesting.
oh hail the Purple and White
Duke lost 4 games against a much much MUCH tougher schedule.
Seeding SDSU ahead of them makes no sense at all. If you put a team like SDSU in a league like the Big 12 or Big East, they would be 9-7/10-6/11-5, depending on the bounces they got or didn’t get over the course of a grinding conference season. I know you like these small schools, but it’s a MUCH different animal when you’ve got to be up for every single game or you’ll get upset by Iowa State/Oklahoma State/Oklahomat/et al, and when you have teams as abjectly awful as the bottom half of the MWC. This is not even a close call.

Oh, jeez
the grinding conference schedule argument. Man, I don’t want us to get into another fight, but… you sound like a Big East basketball fan, or an SEC football fan.
And I know damn well it annoys you when they start expressing their particular brand of delusion.
It does not matter who you play; you have to be up for every game because anyone can upset you. Duke didn’t have any BAD losses, really, but if you want a 1-seed, maybe losing to St. John’s and Virginia Tech isn’t optimal. Really, once you get past Ohio State and Kansas, everyone else has bad losses… except for one team. And that one team is the Aztecs.
By the way, it’s not that I “like” the small schools, as a matter of inherent leaning. (Although I do have to be a little non-plussed at us talking about a school with almost 30,000 undergrads as a “small school”.) It’s that I dislike the arrogant attitude that immediately consigns any school outside the Big Six to being disregarded. Kennesaw State could go 30-1 including a couple of signature wins in alleged guarantee games and people would still scoff at them getting a 5-seed because, well, “they’re Kennesaw State and the Atlantic Sun is a joke”. (And don’t even pretend it wouldn’t happen.) It’s wrong, it’s juvenile, and it’s depressing.

Both KUs and at least one of @KSU, @Mizzou, @A&M or @UT.
They may not go 32-2, but they might go 30-4, still impressive.
Especially if they played KSU in January and Texas at the end of February.
Would they actually get there? I have no idea, and neither can you, this is just speculation. The fact is, though, there is only one team in this conference that played lights-out the whole season, and that was KU. They still lost two games. On any given day, anyone could beat pretty much every team in this league. Not as often as the MWC, but all of our teams are eminently beatable.

Wow.
First, no one wins @Mizzou except for KU. No one but CU won @KSU. Those are two more guaranteed losses, in addition to the two KU games. Personally, I think they’d lose both games at A&M and UT, giving them 6 losses, and would PROBABLY drop a road game somewhere else. We don’t have any Wyomings in our conference.

Well, thanks for clearing that up.
As for “engaging in rampant speculation”, I believe that’s what we’re ALL doing. Perhaps once SDSU wins A GAME in the NCAA tournament, there would be a bit of a stronger argument that they wouldn’t be a middle-of-the-pack team in most power conferences.

Ain't none of us watched enough SDSU games
to form any opinion from just watching them, and you know it.
Look, this started with “Duke played a much much MUCH tougher schedule”. They did not; if Duke played more tough teams, then for the SOS to be so nearly identical it also means they played more creampuffs and/or worse teams than SDSU to make up for it. If Duke played fewer pansies, then it means SDSU played more quality teams. There’s no getting around it; one of the two must be correct. That’s the benefit of a zero-sum measurement, which SOS is.
If you look at the profiles of the top teams in the bracket, you’ll notice something: there are four teams which managed to lose four games or fewer. One of those four (Kansas) lost two games while facing the 9th-toughest schedule in the country. The other four teams, amazingly, are 21-22-23-24 in SOS — one clean cluster.
An argument that SDSU is overseeded as a TWO must inherently also assert that Ohio State (also two losses, also a similar SOS to SDSU) is over-seeded. That’s ludicrous, because — and here’s the kicker to all of this — below those first five teams is the clear cutoff line.
The REAL argument shouldn’t even be “did SDSU deserve a 1-seed over Duke”. The REAL argument should be “why the HELL is Pittsburgh a 1-seed?!?”
Now, I’m just making my case for why I think SDSU is better than Duke; reasonable minds can differ on that topic, I will admit. (Just, you know, not by claiming Duke had a much much MUCH tougher schedule.) Suggesting SDSU is over-seeded at a TWO, however, borders on the ridiculous. Sorry, it just does.
My new blog: Those Other Guys. Critiques welcome.
(I should note
there are actually seven teams that lost four or fewer games, but USU and Belmont both have truly putrid SOS, so I didn’t include them. That said, they’re also both grossly under-seeded.)
My new blog: Those Other Guys. Critiques welcome.
I've actually watched a few SDSU games.
Both BYU games, one against (I believe) New Mexico, and one against Wyoming(? it was a bad team that they killed). I’ve seen Duke play in two of the three UNC games (1 win, 1 loss), in the VT game (loss), and in a couple of wins against (again, I think) NC State and Maryland. I’ve watched quite a bit of basketball in my 28 or 29 years as a sentient sports watcher, and Duke is stronger than SDSU. I think SDSU is probably the most vulnerable 2-seed, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them go down in the round of 32 at all.

Oh, by the way:
Duke’s SOS: .5768, rank 24
SDSU’s SOS: .5771, rank 22
I am unsure how two numbers which are, in terms of statistical significance, pretty much exactly the same result in one of the two teams being deemed as playing a “much much MUCH tougher schedule”.
SDSU, if anything, played a very very VERY SLIGHTLY tougher schedule than did Duke. And performed better. QED.
My new blog: Those Other Guys. Critiques welcome.
The Major-midmajor difference is less defined in basketball
than in football. Yes, they play in a weaker conference, but since a basketball team is only five starters you have more of the best athletes to spread around.
As such, getting 30 wins (the equivalent of not losing a single game in football) is more impressive than it would be in football for a mid-major.

I'm not sad for Colorado.
While I agree that they got seriously hosed, they’re not even a member of our conference anymore, so no sadness here.

I have more sympathy for Baylor not making it ...
than for CU not making it … as you can tell I’m really broken up.
Glad OSU made it to the NIT and hope they do well.

You should go back and read...
…some of their posts about how great their recruiting classes were and how much they were going to dominate for the foreseeable future. It’s really, really cute (to quote Pan).

They still think that though!
I liked their comment about maybe hiring an assistant who knows something about offense.
I’ll try to follow that site closer. Love good conspiracy theories.

Getting all this off twitter from Fritchen
Utah State senior forward Tai Wesley: “I like the opponent that we are playing. I think that we have a chance to beat them.”
Utah State senior forward Tai Wesley: “I think that the seed is a slap in the face.”
Utah State senior forward Tai Wesley: “We are looking to play our style of basketball, and run our sets and get a win.”

I think Tai Wesley is going to be one VERY disappointed young man.
To the tune of 15-20 points disappointed.

Already sick of all this 11 from the Big East junk
Cant wait for them to all fail before the final four!!

I agree
I only have 5 of the 11 winning their first round (round of 64) game. I have 2 in the Sweet 16, 1 in the Elite 8, and none in the final four. If I’m right, that would give them a record of 9-11, I believe, which would make me very VERY happy!

The only bad part about a potential BE flameout,
is the probability of the idiot talking heads falling over themselves to cry about how they just beat each other up so much that they just didn’t have a fighting chance in the tournament.

inevitable for sure.
This is why I couldn’t fall asleep. Tried for about an hour, but too much bball on the mind.
"Nor yet in Dell?"
I just dosed myself with Ny-Quil.
I absolutely HAVE to sleep some tonight, since I have a big paper to finish up by tomorrow at Midnight.

But that is better than the other alternative
… the BE does well in the Tournament and the talking head blabber on and on and on about how good they must be to survive the conference season, survive (only 1 team played 5 games, nobody else more than 3?) the conference tournament, and then perform well in the Big Dance. All while never mentioning these men are in the prime or early prime of their body’s physical prowess and have had days to rest between all of this combined with the adrenaline rush that comes during a game with so much on the line as March certainly demands!
