K-State Slate: 2.10.11

K-state_slate_icon_medium

Here's a more in-depth piece about K-State's conference player of the week, Brittany Chambers.

Speaking of the women, Texas handed K-State its first home loss of the season.

In his midweek musings, Haskin riffs on Hoiberg pulling in transfers, Bill Self's hairpiece, Kansas connections to the Super Bowl, local basketball, and others.

In Big 12 basketball action last night, Texas rolled over OklahomaBaylor snuck by Nebraska, and Texas A&M pulled off an overtime victory over Colorado. We really need to get a win in Boulder on Saturday.

Check out this video of UConn's quarterback doing a bunch of ridiculous stuff.

And CU shots poorly overall and less free throws than A&M

It’s going to be very tough to come out of there victorious without Kelly. A&M’s posts were leading scorers.

lol @ the hairpiece line.

No idea why he threw that in there. Looks like a familiar name had some fun in the comments defending Self though.

If you were referring to my line...

I think they deleted it. I guess he didn’t like being called a muffin top

lol they deleted it?

they must be more of the cupcake variety. It was pretty tame compared to some stuff i’ve seen.

I thought the same thing

and I wasn’t trying to be mean. I just find it comical when people who are in no position to judge someones appearance do just that. Haskin needs to look in the mirror first!

Another really nice article from KSE

http://www.kstatesports.com/blog/2011/02/potuzak-having-the-time-of-his-life.html – Too bad I don’t think there’s anyway he’s the next McGraw or Nelson to make it in the bigs.

Well, they've turned on us alright.

This article sums up the mess this season has been, though the media is as usual prone to hyperbole. Just as KSU wasn’t deserving of all the preseason hype, this team and program is not nearly as doomed as these writers are proclaiming.

KState’s Crash

It’s a shame that not only the situation with Curt but the reasoning for it have been made public. Whoever let this out really screwed things up. As much as Currie may want to make this go away, he’s going to come under a lot of scrutiny if he does so. The athletic department better have the best lie spinners in Kansas working to come up with the right story.

You're right about the hyperbole.

Loved this..

Less than a year later, his team – and his program – appear to be in complete shambles.

He then proceeds to rank us ahead of 5 other teams. If KSU is in shambles, what is everyone else??

by WillieWannabe on Feb 10, 2011 10:09 AM CST up reply actions

Facts don't work with hyperbole.

I just can’t wait for this season to end. The Cats really need a few new big men too, but God knows where they’re coming from.

Keep the faith!

If Curt is kicked off the team I’ll probably be right by your side, but if Currie does what we hope he does and the team can win on Saturday, then this team controls its own destiny to have yet another top four league finish. No Big 12 Championship, but still that’d push the streak to five straight seasons as a top 4 or better Big 12 team.

Next year I expect a much smaller lineup – Jamar and JHR will likely start at the forward positions with Vic and Gipson coming off the bench. Give Diaz a year to develop and hopefully the staff can recruit Cauley or another good big man to come in the next season. Rod will be the go-to player and a fixture at the 3. But despite Jake leaving we’ll have a pretty nice group of guards who should all see some PT – Will, Nick, Shane, Martavious, Peterson, Myles. We’ve seen glimpses (and more) from each one of them. Could see some big jumps in production (I’m thinking especially for Peterson who clearly has talent, but is still figuring things out). And hopefully Angel can be that transition PG we’ve missed this season.

To think how many players have done worse...

The list is long from KU alone on rapes, assaults, DUI (do you know who I am mornginstar) etc where there is little consequence. I’m not a smoker but WTF when assault/DUI is ok play and smoking weed is kicked off the team.

To think the rest of our hopes could lie with this decision is frustrating, just do like KU and look the other way!!!

I'm not quite as pessimistic as I probably sounded, I just want this season to end so we don't have any more drama

With any kind of development from the guards I think next year’s team will be pretty solid. I’m looking forward to Southwell, Myles and Peterson in particular. But without big men the Cats won’t be contending for anything but a top-4 league finish.

I also forgot about Nino and Omari Lawrence.

Could be wild cards. Nino was highly touted coming into this year and has had a year to adjust to the demands of the program. Am excited to see what he can do.

This year's basketball season might not be going anywhere

But Victor Ojeleye is going places.

Nice read from the Eagle a glimmer of hope for leadership to come

Here's a thought, how about having VO start instead of Kelly?

Yeah VO isn’t any where near as talented as Kelly, but he sounds like a much better person.

+1

Let’s see if character will win us some games. We’ve seen what poor character this year has gotten us.

Anyone hear Kietz today with Dave Armstrong

Dropped a bit about this article, but also said something about the Frank Martin asking HCBS to allow a TE (he thought Andre McDonald) to practice with the basketball team to be another big man body to throw in at times?

by GTcat on Feb 10, 2011 8:38 PM CST up reply actions

That makes perfect sense, perhaps too much

God knows McDonald (all 6’8" of him) wasn’t used as much as he probably should have been on the football field.

At least they have something to look forward to next year

Why not try to get another big body? With the defections of Judge and Asprilla, the Cats are woefully undermanned in the bigs.
