I am not a proponent of a multi-round college football playoff system. While it would certainly be interesting for fans, I do not think it is in the best interest of our football student-athletes. Generally the season is long enough considering the physical demands of the game and the fact that the players are indeed supposed to be students first.
AD John Currie, in a letter that was just delivered to my KSU student email account. It's very disappointing to hear a man I respect spout the cliched nonsense about a playoff not being "in the best interest of our football student-athletes." Hopefully the people looking at the proposed plus-one model will ignore this type of claptrap.

Part of me wonders how much of this is double-speak.
I mean, it probably wouldn’t be a good thing for K-State if Currie just went all-out for a playoff system. I think it would hurt K-State’s relationships in the pecking order of college football if we became known as agitators.
Of course, a better strategy in this hypothetical scenario would be to just not make any comments on the matter.
So my hope is he doesn’t really mean that. Because I do respect him and would prefer if he didn’t have this viewpoint.
Would you like some Freys with that?
Well, I think it depends on what he means by "playoff".
If it’s 8 teams or more that means either two extra games for student-athletes or a shortened regular season to accommodate the system. In the former scenario there is the greater risk of injury and less time in the classroom (some may laugh at that but I still think that matters). In the latter scenario it means fewer home games which would obviously be a concern for the AD.
The “plus one” playoff I can’t see anyone having much objection to though.
Agree
I was wondering if some of this was simply John Currie trying to cover his tracks for making (fantastic, I might add) comments about how the BCS bowls need a ranked-based metric in terms of assigning teams rather than an old-boys network being the principle factor in selection.
He decries "multi-round" playoffs.
A plus-one system is “multi-round.” And even in an 8-team playoff, only 4 teams out of 120 would ever play even one more game than they currently do. And if they trimmed back to 11 regular season games, only 2 teams would play even one more game under an 8-team playoff. I like ADJC, but he’s parroting a pretty tired canard.

Didn't all the Big-12 ADs vote the other day
to support a plus-one BCS proposal? And Currie seems to have been on board for some changes to the BCS as well.
He said that on his 810 interview as well a few days ago
I forget if he specifically commented on a plus one model, but the context around this quote didn’t give me the impression that he was against that idea. He for sure didn’t give me the impression during the course of that interview (probably up as a podcast), that he’s totally up for going to bat for the BCS like a Jim Delany is. I wouldn’t put too much stock in this that he’s part of the roadblock to imploded the current system. That’s just me. Now who I know who I’m talking to though, I want to leave it at that. All nudging aside, welcome back KSB.
"Nor yet in Dell?"
Thanks for the welcome.
I definitely hope you’re right. I like ADJC a lot, and if this quote means what I thought it meant, it would be really disappointing.

I remember listening to it, and my intial reaction was much like yours
Great, I found a reason not to like ADJC…I was in shock, my body didn’t know what to do…then the more he talked it seemed like to me he didn’t want to overstep his bounds in a public record sense, and left things otherwise pretty open. I think he specifically likes the bowl model only requiring travel once vs. multiple times. I think he could be convinced that “one more trip” won’t hurt anything ;) ;)
"Nor yet in Dell?"
Guess I will always have a different perspective.
The bowl system benefits the bowls and not the schools as was seen by the articles done by the AZ newspaper.

I also do not think anyone who has accepted anything from the bowls should not speak in favor of the bowls
unless they are willing to disclose any and all items/compensation received from the bowls.
