RPI WATCH: 12/5/11

So you wanna steal our BCS bid, huh? We'll show you...

It was a busy weekend, featuring the following:

  • Continued losing by Loyola and UMES;
  • BCS stumbles by Virginia Tech and West Virginia — offset by BCS bowls, of course;
  • Surprisingly dominant wins by Charleston Southern and North Florida;
  • Neutral-court losses by George Washington and Howard;
  • Still more losing by Auburn, Clemson and Hawaii;
  • Baylor and Missouri staying undefeated against Northwestern and Northwestern State, respectively;
  • Long Beach State and Oklahoma State blowouts of outmatched NAIA foes;
  • Good wins over bad teams by Kansas and Texas;
  • Good wins over really bad teams by Oklahoma and Texas A&M;
  • Continued over-scheduling by Iowa State and a squeaker win by Xavier.

Star-divide

Overall Record = 5-0

Big 12 Record = 0-0

RPI = 18

SOS = 120

Signature Wins (RPI 1-30) = none

Quality Wins (RPI 31-100) = Charleston Southern, Virginia Tech

Bad Losses (RPI 101 or greater) = none

Early season RPIs are weird

Just look at Long Beach State. I mean, it’s neat that they won at Pittsburgh and all, but they also lost to Montana and an above-average but not great San Diego St. team.

That being said, if they could win at Allen Fieldhouse tonight, that would just be fantastic.

Winning this game was huge

A split of the next two (WVU, Bama) is now acceptable for a successful non-con schedule in my eyes (barring any crazy-bad Diamond Head excursions)…

Speaking of which, we get SIU then the winner of UTEP/Clemson (all 3 of those schools are borderline bad) to make the Title game, talk about a sweet setup.

Anyone notice how we get KU/Mizzou/Baylor back-to-back-to-back twice, wtf schedule makers!?!

Hey, we had a brutal stretch in football

and came out 50/50. 1/3 will be acceptable, 2/3 will be darn good, and 3/3 will mean that we just might be for real. (talking about the KU/MU/BU stretch)

So, is West Virginia any good?

4-2 with losses to Kent State and Mississippi State (that one on the road).

You know what we’ll see at Intrust with a Bob Huggins team vs. a Frank Martin team…it will be heavy in defense, fouls, and effort. I would feel pretty good if our triple post O was more fluid…

I reject your reality and substitute my own.
