K-State 83 v SIU 58 at the Diamond Head Classic, post game wrap up.
25 fouls, 40 rebounds, 8 offensive rebounds, 6 steals, 4 blks, 19 turnovers, 14 assists 25/46 FG's (54.3%), 9/14 3's (64.3%) and 24/32 FT's (75%). As you can see there is plenty of good and plenty of bad with this game. The game wasn't close and the mistakes when they happened were of the lazy variety.
SIU had some great defensive plays and continued to apply pressure to the Cats through out the game. Most of the time the Cats were able to handle the pressure but lazy passes and not being aware of the defender caused several turn overs.
A grades
Jeremy Jones was one of 2 guards to not have more TO's than assists, so he gets the lone A of the night.
B grades
Jamar (B+) had a nice game after returning from his grandmother's funeral and led the team in points. Condolences to Jamar and his family. (from the sounds of it, he learned about this just prior to the last game).
Angel shot rather well today and if he had not made several turnovers would easily be an A grade.
JO another solid performance with the usual good and bad. If he keeps playing like this in conference I'll be very happy.
Thomas Gipson had a quiet game with some nice assists.
Rodney played the most minutes and I think he provides a nice steadying influence when he is in the game.
C grades.
Will, I think is still recovering from illness as he seemed a step off in this game.
Martavious did not have a great game. Early fouls (only reason he is not a B) resulted in 11 minutes of playing time despite starting. He is the other guard that had more assists than turnovers.
No grade
Everyone else had less than 10 minutes of playing time. Adrian Diaz had a solid 9 minutes of game time and I expect good things from him in future games although he needs more bulk.
What needs to be worked on?
Take care of the ball better. Better recognition of when someone needs help on offense along with no standing around.
Good things that happened.
JO with one dribble drive for a dunk after causing the turnover on the defensive end.
Good passing to open people who then had easy shots.
NEXT GAME:
K-State vs UTEP at 4 p.m. CST on ESPNU.
if K-State wins: 8:30 pm CST Sunday 25th.
if K-State loses: 6:30 pm CST Sunday 25th.

You didn't grade the coaching, so I'll do it for ou.
Kids came out and played hard in the first half, despite clearly fighting through energy issues.
However, at the start of the second half we just were not focused. This game was never clase after intermission, but it did become sloppy. Don’t know if you can put all of that on Frank, but you can put some of it. However, given that second halfs have generally been our strength this year, I will give him a pass on this. He also could have been using this as a Frank Martin patented “teach a lesson game”.
However, that gubayanara shirt or whatever the hell it is called earns some negative points, bringing his overall grade to C+/B- territory.
Would you like some Freys with that?
As much as I would like to harp on Bob Stoops, what I meant to say is that I would grade the coaching for Anon, since he did not do it himself.
Unfortunately, I neglected to include the letter “y” in the word “you”, so it appeared as if my comment was preparing to criticize the Oklahoma coaching staff for a bit of a letdown season.
I apologize for the confusion.

I think everyone that watched OU v OSU game will agree it was a letdown season for OU.

I thought that happened earlier on against Baylor?

Meh, pass.
Sounded like we just started really cold shooting. I didn’t think the qty of TOs was necessarily worse than in first half. Just a rough patch the first 5 minutes of second half? Dunno.
Oh, come on now. That's just stupid.

I think Diaz deserved better than a C
Yeah, he does dumb stuff but he’s aggressive and had a nice stat line for his limited minutes – 9 points on 4/4 from the floor, and 1/2 FTs, 3 rebounds, but 1 TO and 2 PF. Given what I expect from him I’d give him a B.

BOYCOTT ESPN!
I only gave grades to those with double digit playing time.
Diaz was the best of the bunch off the bench that did not have double digit playing time.

Xavier may come out of this ok ...
but right now, this game is going just about like some people figured. LBSU is very feisty.

The Missourah/Illinois game couldn't have gone any better ...
Missourah wins … good for the conference RPI. And while they showed their great upside during the game, they showed their flaws, too. If Illinois was a well-coached team, they would have been able to handle Missourah. Weber had no freaking clue how to use his talented 7-footer … just wasted him. He’s got to be gone after this year.

Agree with the bulk of this assessment.
Nice analysis. I also was very pleasantly surprised by Jeremy Jones’ play.
The bracket has opened up really well for us to win this tournament.
Which kind of worries me. Frank needs to make sure the team 100 percent understands that they can’t overlook UTEP today. Remember, guys, UTEP held an ACC team to 48 points yesterday. And if we play Long Beach State in the final round, whether for the championship or third place, they’re 2-3 against ranked teams this season and really made a game of it against Kansas and UNC. They know they don’t have many more chances to state their case for an at-large bid if they don’t win their conference tournament.
