RPI WATCH: 12/19/11
Obviously, the big news of the week was K-State collecting its best win of the season with its best performance of the season. That helped the Cats' RPI to swell to 35.
Also assisting in that regard, though, were wins by vanquished foes Charleston Southern, Loyola and Virginia Tech.
George Washington and UMES continued to lose, though, as did North Florida, whose coach can, IMO, rot in Hell after he equated us to Auburn and Miami, all of which he labeled "not big-time programs." Scoreboard, you whiny bitch.
This week is one I've long awaited, as the Cats will fly to sunny Honolulu to confront the Diamond Head Classic.
Wins by Auburn, Clemson and Hawaii, combined with Xavier's stunning home loss to Oral Bob, make this field appear more balanced and challenging than it looked just a few weeks ago. It should be a fun 12 games to watch on ESPNU.
In Big 12 action, Kansas sat out the week to "take finals" (which is Jayhawk code for missing court appearances), while Iowa State, Missouri and Texas Tech collected scalps of outmatched opponents at home.
Texas logged a nice victory over Temple, while Oklahoma continued its winning ways with a closer-than-it-should-have-been survival of Houston in Oklahoma City. And Baylor's win at BYU was the best of them all.
Now for the bad. Texas A&M fell to 0-2 in SEC play and received a rude introduction to the state of Florida at the hands of the Gators, who led 50-25 at halftime after holding the Aggies to just a pair of field goals in the first 10 minutes.
(Excuse me while I stifle my uncontrollable laughter.)
Meanwhile, Oklahoma State put itself firmly on the bad side of the conference ledger with a loss to New Mexico that wasn't as close as the score indicates. The Pokes didn't score for the final 7 1/2 minutes.
With games still to come against Alabama, SMU and Virginia Tech, the overrated LeBryan Nash and his compadres appear to be in some serious bubble trouble. Told ya so.

Yes, whenever I think of peer programs for Miami and Auburn in basketball...
…K-State is the first one that comes to mind.

I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt
I think he was just listing the BCS conference programs they’ve played which weren’t ranked – as opposed to Florida and Ohio St., who they’d also played but were ranked in the top 10.
It’s pretty bad getting compared to those 2 programs, though.
It seems like he whined last year too...
Something about how Jamar Samuels hit a 3 on them and he said something to the tune of “That guy hasn’t hit a 3 all year, so it was all luck that he hit that 3 etc etc it was just a lucky night for them”. You know despite the fact that he was fairly accurate on his small amount of 3’s the year before.

I could be confusing with a different game,
but I noticed at the end of the game this season Frank and the UNF coach seemed to have a pretty brisk exchange, particularly considering Frank has hug-outs most of the time.
The Beakers lose to Davidson WILDCATS !
Love how this article emphasizes the mascot of Davidson. Perhaps a hint of things to come this year!

oh hail the Purple and White
Oh, and by the way, KU sucks!
I’m starting to get my basketball mojo, and my red hot hatred of KU hoops is starting to bubble up a little bit ! Time to start turning the tables on those rat bastards!
Will, Rodney, Gip, are you reading? I don’t want to hear any of this “we respect them” crap anymore! We are KSU; You guys are tougher than those guys, and don’t ever frickin forget it!
oh hail the Purple and White
I love how the coaches gave K-State and Alabama the same number of votes in the poll.
You really got to hand it to them…way to know what is going on in the NCAA.

You can't rank team based on one game
K-State is otherwise 6-1 while Alabama is 8-2. The team with more wins is always better. Duh.

Agree that rankings aren't based on one game...
…but Alabama is 8-3, not 8-2. So, there’s that…
It’s simply because of the preseason rankings that mean nothing. It takes til about Jan 15 before the rankings really start to make any sense.
Sorry, I was being sarcastic
And those records are without the K-State/Alabama game. I was just trying to apply the apparent logic of the coaches that voted.

The North Florida coach can stew in the fact that Frank had so little respect for him and his team...
that he made the UNF game his “Buy in or Quit!” game for 2012.
We were so confident that we’d win that game that Frank decided to make that his, “I’m gonna prove a point,” game.
Pfffft. Whatever.
