Bill Snyder sees similarities between his program and Paul Rhoads' program at Iowa State.
K-State remains at No. 16 in this week's BlogPoll.
The Mercury takes a look at a possible three-way tie, whether Turner Gill was given enough time, and K-State's bowl scenarios.

K-State Volleyball
K-State takes on Wichita State tonight in Lincoln, Neb., in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
College Football
Washington State hired Mike Leach yesterday, prompting some of the funniest responses I've seen from KU fans in years. Why yes, my first inclination upon hearing the news was that KU must have decided it didn't want Leach. I mean, wasn't that your reaction? It wasn't?

Of course it must have been KU's decision not to pursue Leach.
Just like if it hadn’t been for the Board of Regents’ insistence on keeping K-State and KU together, the Big Ten, SEC, Pac-12, ACC, and NFL would have all been in a bidding war to bring KU in during expansionpalooza.
Yea, I'm so freaking thankful of the Board of Regents for saving State by keeping us w/KU
Because KU is such a national power in the NCAA. F KU. On a serious note, I’m really disappointed they didn’t give Gill another few years there.
No Leach at KU makes me happy.
Now let’s hope they hire Ron Zook or something.

Things got weird on 810 WHB this morning
Gary Barnett was on for his weekly Big XII talk with the Border Patrol.
Quickly turned into how much Barnett wanted the KU job, which made any talks about potential coaches for KU (you know other than Barnett) really awk-ward…
The resident KU homer (Nate) didn’t sound too enthused about Coach Barnett being KU’s next coach, but what can you say when that’s a guy who is on a weekly segment with your show?
Now that Leach is officially out of the picture ...
the phoggies can (and will) do a lot worse than Gary Barnett.
Thank you, thank you, thank you Mike Leach for not being a completely insane genius.

Funny that two of the names on their list are Mizzou alumns
Barnett and Leavitt. And their best realistic hire might be Christensen, a former Mizozu assistant.
Barnett is a darn good coach ...
he’d get KU 5-7 wins just on Xs and O’s every year. Problem is, KU has a poloitical correctness problem with their chancelor and I can’t see her going for Barnett with what allegedly went on in Boulder while he was there. Strippers, for cosh sake. How terrible. Young college football players wanting to get laid, and such!
Sorry, Barnett. KU is not for you.
oh hail the Purple and White
thought the same thing
That Nate was being quiet out of courtesy b/c he was a weekly guest. Not that I think he was thrash GB, but he probably didn’t think it was the “best” move for them at this point, and just didn’t want any of that out on the airwaves.
"Nor yet in Dell?"
yeah I agree too
I was just surprised how fast the entire segment devolved into GB practically begging KU for the job.
Just listened to the podcast
Wow. That was beyond awkward. I was literally cringing in my seat as I listened.
The worst part was when they asked if he had been contacted by KU or the search firm, and he said no, and then tried to make it look like that might not mean anything.
Also, when he said that KU would be a great fit for him based on one of the reasons being a good relationship with the AD. They then asked them if he knew the KU AD and he said no, but had heard he was a respectable guy.
Just very awkward and sad sounding.
Would you like some Freys with that?

Might wanna do some research before making fun of our reaction
It was reported that KU was very close to a deal with Leach pending he end the lawsuits against Tech and ESPN. Apparently he wasn’t willing to do that, and WSU was ok with it. If anything, you think you’d be happy that KU didn’t pull a MU and reflame distrust and etc in the conference.
But yeah, really embarrassing on our part. Kind of like reporting Gary Patterson has accepted an offer to become our coach…

I'm just stating what I heard on 610
And yeah I know its 610. Point being:
1) KU didn’t or likely just get completely ignored or shot down by Leach, as that linked claim.
2) Fan bases sometimes have inflated expectations / harsh reactions with coaching searches, for example the Patterson to KState ordeal.

1. We came up with a name for these kinds of unfounded, usually anonymous, reports: tewwts.
2. Sure, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s funny. The Patterson to KSU deal is actually a lot like I expect this KU situation to turn out like – everyone hoping for Leach, and then getting a Ron Prince v2.0.
Don't say that.
We’re pretty nice people.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
Rock Chalk Talk
weird, you would of heard something like that on 610?!?!?!
if you want to talk about a JayhawkSlant…
No but they’re both reasonable statements. It’s similar to the Patterson debacle, but did any one KU site publish on its home page that Leach was a done deal? If not, in that case it’s a little less embarrassing for KU—which for the sake of your university is a good thing. You should be happy with responsible journalism.

Mine was a sarcastic response to a sarcastic comment ("you'd think you'd be happy blah blah blah") ...
Anyway, moving on … I’m curious to get your reaction to this … let’s assume that Leach really did want ku before wazzu. Are you ok with the (alleged) ultimatum to drop the lawsuits, effectively torpedoeing (sp?) a Leach hire? A hire that was a virtual guarantee to bring ku football back to relevancy within, at most, two years?
I can think of multiple reasons why a guy like Leach would choose wazzu over ku aside from the lawsuit issue, but if I were a ku fan and I actually thought the lawsuit ultimatum occurred and was the deciding factor, I’d be a little upset.
by Itchy n Scratchy on Dec 1, 2011 12:20 PM CST up reply actions
Sorry, I didn't know yous was being sarcastic
To answer your question, yes I’d be upset. But not TOO much. Personally, I think you got to roll the dice and take the lawsuits. I think our program is in that bad of shape, the fans care that little, etc that we need a proven winner at this level. On the other hand, I can see how a lawsuit with ESPN and a conference mate would make things a little dicey.
So its not the decision I would have made (had the alleged or hypothetical, whatever way you look at it, negotiations took place). But I can see why it was made, if that makes sense.

1. Possibly still paying Mangino (don’t remember if it was a lump sum agreement, or a yearly payout scenario)
2. Possibly still pay Lew Perkins (same as above)
3. Bad PR from Ticket Scandal

5. Paying top dollar for Mike Leach
6. Dealing with negative PR of Mike in Lawsuits while trying to coach. There’s nothing to say he’s going to win or lose either case.

Yeah I was a big Rich Rod fan...
Thought he could do well here.
I dunno, I like Fedora a lot but I think he is holding out for a better job than KU.
Here is one I’ve been harping on that a lot are ignoring: Phil Fulmer (ex Tennessee coach). He openly campaigned for the job last time it was open, and apparently came to Lawrence and impressed everyone with his interview and presentation. Dude won a national title and was very successful in the SEC. Why not give him a second chance?
His Tenn teams had a lot of discipline problems, but maybe thats not an issue at KU since he won’t be under the pressure he was at Tenn. I think he deserves a look, especially since he interviewed last time and really seemed passionate about the job.
I think Stoops and Dorean will be finalists as well. And then there are some darkhorse guys I like (Cryst, OC from Wisconsin comes to mind).

See, this is the reason I was hating on him. He made a mistake and refuses to let this go. It’s kind of funny really. I just like for people to admit their mistakes, especially when they are paid well to do the work. If it really was his opinion to begin with it would be one thing, but it became his opinion after screwing up and now he’s holding onto that pride with all his might!

HEY!
He posted one of my comments to him! YAY!
Albeit, it was probably my weakest argument*, but hey exposure!
*I can say that because you will never see the other arguments I made and therefore can never verify whether that is true or not.
Would you like some Freys with that?

I caught that...it was the Perry that set me off. I was like:
“hey it’s the guy down the road from me!”
"Nor yet in Dell?"
Also, I don't know how you can know what Ubben's opinion was prior to Titlegate.
I think we should just stick to pointing out te flaws in his argument and refrain from making assumptions as to his motivations.

Even better!
#Cosh4Texas.
Prince seems to be permanently out of the coaching ranks. Plus, I don’t think Texas would go for that.
Besides, we need to get rid of Cosh right now, not Prince. If we have two simultaneous campaigns to get him hired at two different schools, we stand a better chance of actually getting rid of him.

Please share as I was just starting the #Cosh4Texas website...
I think Chris is on to something about saturating the market with our campaign, but if you have a more diabolical plan I can be swayed…
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

I understood, I just felt Cosh would be better for us.
Because it gets him the hell out of town.

Bob Fescoe tweets historical events:
Saddam Hussein out of power in Iraq. Must have decided he didn’t like the scrutiny.
Richard Nixon resigns. Must have been unhappy about his policies.
United Stats wins fight for independence. Maybe Britain never cared about the colonies anyway.
Napoleon decides to stop Russian campaign. Why stop now? Maybe the cold bothers the Russians too.
