Week 12 College Football Open Thread

Now Oklahoma State knows how Missouri felt when the Cowboys beat the Tigers in 2008.

Iowa State pulled the upset of the weekend when it beat the Pokes, 37-31, in overtime at Jack Trice Stadium on Friday. Now Oklahoma State is out of the national title race, and BCS chaos is sure to ensue. Only LSU remains undefeated against the legitimate contenders, leaving a lineup of one-loss teams as potential contenders.

It also throws the Big 12 bowl picture into chaos. Now the Big 12 will probably only get one team in a BCS bowl game, and K-State's Cotton Bowl hopes are probably gone. That's not to say that the Alamo Bowl is a bad destination, but the Cotton Bowl would've been cool.

Check out this week's college football buffet, and then find out who is rootable. K-State's game thread will go live one hour before kickoff, so this is your thread all day. The Big 12 schedule is below.

KU vs. Texas A&M, Kyle Field, College Station, Texas, 11:00 a.m., FSN

Texas Tech vs. Missouri, Faurot Field, Columbia, Mo., 2:30 p.m., ABC

Oklahoma vs. Baylor, Floyd Casey Stadium, Waco, Texas, 7:00 p.m., ABC

The only things the FCC has jurisdiction over are free, over-the-air TV and radio. It’s why Howard Stern’s move to satellite radio was a big-ish deal. Without the FCC to crack down on him, he could be as offensive as he wanted.

I'm still not sure why people are pessimisitic about the Cotton bowl.

Big 12 champ goes to BCS, as does runner up. How does this change anything?

The Big 12 has eight bowl tie-ins, including one guaranteed BCS bid.

With ISU’s win last night, A&M going medieval on KU, and 5-5 Missouri playing 5-5 Texas Tech today, we will have eight teams bowl eligible before the day is over. The loser of Mizzou/TXT will need to win their final game to be bowl-eligible. Mizzou plays KU, and TXT plays Baylor in their final games of the season, both at neutral sites. A TXT win tonight (quite possible with GP MIA because of DUI), followed by a probable Mizzou win over KU would give the Big 12 nine bowl-eligible teams with only eight guaranteed spots. But it is still feasible the conference will get a pair of BCS teams, even if neither is in the mythical national championship game.

It’s also possible that a bowl tied-in with another conference that doesn’t have enough bowl-eligible teams could pick the final Big 12 team.

Well I just want to win out for KSU

So I will take it upon myself to be the designated asshole and predict a loss. I will expect you all pile on unmercifully when I am wrong!

Unless a lot of early, big money goes in on the game on one side of the line,

and the “big money” does know something the general public doesn’t know. Suppose 3 bettors early put down $1000 each on Tx. with his local bookie. Then 30 small bettors ($100 a pop) pile in on the other side . There is now $3000 on each side of the action. (small scale example of what can happen in Vegas, where the lines are set. However, early action from bookies around the country DO help set the line in VEgas.
I’ve heard there were some huge bets put on Tx very early, and that is why the line opened so high. I hope like hell I’m wrong.

I always thought Tuberville was a good coach, but this is pretty indefensible

Tech has too much talent to be getting blown out the way they were, and ending the year on a 5 game losing streak. I’m not sure you can put that on anyone but the coach.
