RPI WATCH: 11/14/11
OK, I was a bit negligent with this feature considering there were games the last three days, but cut me some slack — it's because I was busy cheering on the Cats, ya know?
Anyhow, you typically can expect to see a sort of "weekend wrapup" RPI WATCH on Monday because Sunday is now my busiest day at work all week. This entry sums up the games from Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Crazy yet nonthreatening non-conference cupcake action follows after the jump (unless you're UCLA, which choked to death on its cupcake, Loyola Scarymount, and already is missing Pauley Pavilion after just one game).

Can a brotha get some basketball words in around here?
Like a quick breakdown of the game tonight? Which no one seems to have mentioned so far?
Like how Loyola goes much bigger in the frontcourt – but still not over athletic 6’-9" – so it could present a greater challenge rebounding, and we want to see some progress on actively finding our men on the defensive end and block out?
Like how the team needs to exhibit poise throughout the whole 40 minutes, and go play the game, b/c no one is handing us shizzle this year?
Like how the lack of offensive planning/execution is eerily similar to last year, but we don’t have the scorer that @JPullz0 was? And that needs to change pronto, b/c we’ll lose winnable games if it doesn’t?
Like we may want to break a sweat in the first half?
Oh, come on now. That's just stupid.

This isn't KU.
Just ribbing you, but really it is still football season and the Cats are having a great year, so I think it is understandable we are all a little too distracted to get up for the early non-cons that shouldn’t be that competitive.
Note that I said shouldn’t, not won’t.
Would you like some Freys with that?

Yeah actually we're usually a pretty basketball centric site...
But that was before this football season.

if it is K-State releated we will discuss it

Classic.

Still mad you ruined that story for me.

I actually know "TheBigE"
(he is also an ARE ’03).
And he’s just a basketball fool. He likes the Football Cats, but considering we were a basketball joke while we were students, I can only imagine what these last 5 years have been like for him.

Oh, that's fine with me.
I just wanted to defend us football fanatics (I first started following BOTC during football season, and am much more of a football guy than basketball guy) who haven’t been giving Frank and his boys their just due.

True dat.
Gawd our basketball program was deplorable when we were there. I mean, as big of a K-Stater as I am, I have thought on multiple occasions – What would it be like to be a student at Duke? Or at UNC? You know, someplace where all it is is basketball.
These past five years have been freaking awesome for me…and I basically “grew up” with HCBS at the helm, and paid attention to every snap that May, Kavanagh, Miller, Bishop, Beasley and Roberson. Trust me, I’m a K-State football fanatic.
But, I have a personal connection to basketball. Always have, always will. So, needless to say, this time of year is almost Wildcat Overload for me.
Almost.
Oh, come on now. That's just stupid.

I'm pretty sure I told you this while we were students.
I traded as many of my Big Cat basketball appearances as I could with people who were assigned to the Volleyball games.
I had way more fun at the volleyball games (we Big Cats got to stand at the end of the court directly behind the players, so there was always a pretty nice view), than I did at the basketball games.

You mean compared to Q and Pervis?
I’d much rather be staring at some ladies backsides on the volleyball court.
Now if he said he traded for the equestrian team, I might be a little worried. You know, about the horses.
Oh, come on now. That's just stupid.

Well, the ladies' backsides were just a bonus
The actual volleyball games were more enjoyable to watch than the basketball games too. :)

Some others can back me up on this
The late 80’s were a great time to be a Wildcat who enjoys basketball.
The last season in Ahearn was very enjoyable. The first season in the new place was also very enjoyable.
Being good in basketball again is very, very, very nice.

I totally agree with you.
In the late 80’s I was in elementary school. My dad was never a huge sprots fan when I was growing up, but whenever the Cats basketball was on tv, that’s what we were watching.
I REALLY would have loved to experience a game in Ahearn. My dad attended KSU from 68-72 and we were just talking about games at Ahearn this weekend (he went to the basketball game with me on Friday night).

Yeah, and you can go to hell, too.
Just kidding. :)
Never got to experience Ahearn. Gawd. The Old Barn. I can’t imagine what that place was like…atmosphere had to have been off the charts. I ran track in there a couple times…one volleyball game, I think. That’s it.
Never got to experience anything K-State Basketball related prior to Tom Asbury, aside from maybe the last year or two of Dana Altman. So while I’m sure a great number of those visitors and commenters on this site have “back-in-the-day” memories of Wildcat Basketball brilliance, I got Asbury. And Wooldridge. Which means I basically got crap in a bag on fire on my porch.
I’m lovin’ Frank The Tank and the attitude he (and subsequently, US) brings to the court.
Oh, come on now. That's just stupid.

Beating KU for the first time in Bramlage was very similar to the Ahearn experience.

I couldn't make it back for that game...
…but I did get to watch it at a KU friend’s house. Honestly, OK to call him a friend – he’s the most level-headed KU fan I’ve ever met, and frankly cheers for K-State unless we’re playing KU. We even play basketball and golf together. Dogs and cats, I know.
…and I have it recorded from my DVR onto a DVD. So I watch it probably twice a year. And I still get goosebumps.
Oh, come on now. That's just stupid.

That was an awesome game
and to think we handed the BlueDucks one of their few (was it the only one?) losses that season.

The only home basketball game I've attended whlie not in the band was that win over KU.
I was one of the first guys to rush the court.
This is towards the end of the game, when I moved down to the gates so I could be first in line for the rushing.

This is when the rushing started…

And this is my picture in the KC Star the next day.

I know, I’m famous. I’ll give you an autograph if you want.
And for memories sake, here is what the scoreboard read after that game. Bonus points (not really) if you know who is on the screen.

You didn't answer my biggest question
What’s an Ohio Dominican? And how far has Southern Illinois fallen if they can’t beat it? Yikes.
I'm sure we'll say something similar about Virginia Commonwealth someday soon.
