RPI WATCH: 11/10/11
Yep, it's back. Due to a pretty dramatic change in my work schedule, though, I can't guarantee it will be up by noon on the day subsequent to the games in question. So for now, look for these to publish at 6 p.m.
This season's edition of RPI WATCH will kick off ... oops, sorry, tip off (damn, this will take some getting used to after such an exciting football season) ... with the SECeders, who didn't blow Liberty out quite as much as I expected.
By the way, I'm adding a new feature this year. I'll hyperlink each game result after the teams that played the previous day so you quickly can access a recap of the game. You're welcome. :-)

How can we have an RPI without playing a game?
And what about strength of schedule already? Our opponents have one real game total under their belt so far.
That boggles my mind as well.
Does anyone know how they do this?

BTW, if anyone cares
RealTimeRPI is projecting a 20-8 record for K-State, 11-7 in conference play.
I’d take it, but I think it’s our worst-case scenario.
Keep in mind this projection does not include the latter two games in Hawaii, so I’d say it’s +/- 1.
Interesting. What's the regular season loss?

I know I'm not the only one, because I have seen it mentioned before
but I would really like to make Wichita State a permanent non-con opponent of ours. I think it would be a great thing for both teams, not to mention the State of Kansas.
I’d rather see this matchup than Loyola (IL) or Maryland Eastern Shore.

I agree with you.
But it’s never going to happen. The way the coaches and administration see it, it is too big of a risk with too little reward. The Shocker are, on the whole, a good mid-major team, but not so good that we’d get a lot of credit for beating them, even on the road. We would take a lot more heat for losing to them. It would also raise their profile in any in-state recruiting battles.
And I refuse to let Wichita State gain ground on us.
Personally I’m not in favor of playing them because I hate the Shockers. So screw em’.

What's wrong with the Shockers exactly?

Uhh yeah!
I agree the red brick is not the prettiest for a college campus, but the University itself and the fans are decent.
I also like WSU more than KU. But for me that doesn’t take much. It would be like saying “I like Emporia State better than KU”. But what reason would I have to NOT like Emporia State? KSU doesn’t play them in anything (that I am aware of), so really I’m indifferent.
Which is why I’m curious why MeatGeek “hates” the Shockers.

I'm a grad of KSU and Wichita State.
WSU is just a different atmosphere than K-State. Fall really sucked because there is no football/marching band practice/etc. It really is a commuter school. I don’t hate it, but I don’t really follow their athletics unless they are in a playoff or tournament or something.

I can't really explain it
It’s not like I actually hate them for any logical reasons, my mom just hated them because back in her Volleyball days they would always destroy Wichita State in volleyball unless it was in Wichita. Then they would lose on questionable calls by the thinnest of margins. She passed her hatred to me without even knowing.
By the way on another note, my mom was on the winningest team in K-State volleyball history. Back when they were the ‘Wild Kittens’.

I will say I get annoyed easily by their fans
They come out of the woodwork. I still remember that one spring break when Geo. Mason went on their tear…Everyone was decked out head to toe in Gold. Grew up in Wichita all my life, never saw that until I was in college. It’s lame. Other than that I generally sorta cheer for them if they’re in the big dance, and not on our side of a bracket or anything. But Gene Stephenson (sp?) is a prick, so anytime their baseball team can experience a FAIL I’m usually up for it.
"Nor yet in Dell?"
Yeah I do enjoy seeing their baseball team lose
When everyone always talks about how good Wichita State baseball is and I just love bringing up the recent history in the series when they do.

We have actually played WSU fairly recently.
Don’t remember when exactly, but I know it has been since I graduated in 2003. And also before then. It may have been nothing more than multiple home-and-home scenarios, instead of an actual long-term deal.
