Just noticed that.
Super8 kinda buried the lead, though, at least in my opinion.

"That's what's left"
is only a true statment if your intention has always been to join a different conference.
As it applies to the future of Mizzou, this is a blatant lie.

But they HAVE been trying to leave for like the last 20 years...

Mizzou, lusting after the Big10 since 1993.

Its the sheer arrogance of that statement that is astounding
“That’s what’s left”? The SEC, easily the best football conference (and a very, very good baseball conference to boot), offers you an invite and the response is “That’s what’s left”? Someone at Mizzou needs to put a clamp down on these boosters, officials, curators and that idiot governor.
No wonder Mizzou despises Texas – they have so much in common.
But this kind of self-inflated ego is nothing new. For those of us who were around in 1993-94 when the Big-12 was being formed, we are well-versed. I was a student at K-State at the time and remember the comments by Mizzou’s leadership about how the Big-10 was this quasi-celestial conference (think Ivy League – but much, much more prestigious!!!) and that they, Mizzou, would be a natural fit because of the sheer power of their own academics. Then flash forward to last year when Jay Nixon made his asinine comments, insulting the scholastic capabilities of Big-12 schools – as if it was at that font of higher learning in Columbia where the scientific method was developed.
Note to Mizzou: You are a fine school, with good athletics and much to be proud of; you should feel inferior to no one, much like you should not feel superior to everyone. But despite your good qualities you were lucky to have been given a lifeline to the nation’s premier football conference. Be grateful for your blessings, exit quietly and with class.
in other words: don’t be Nebraska.
What's really funny is,
they don’t HAVE an invite from the SEC at present.

I know.
Which is also why thier claims of “loyalty” and “trust” are also wearing very thin with me.

This is the stuff that irks me
The agreement is subject to approval by university governing boards — a step Missouri curators don’t want to take until the school is able to “fully explore options for conference affiliation … which best serve the interests of the University of Missouri,” board chairman Warren Erdman told The Associated Press.
So, If they ask SEC and SEC says no, then Mizzou will agree to grant rights to the conference. But granting rights to conference gives them a good reason not to leave.
This in my mind is just as bad as OU complaining about needing stability when them making the statement about looking to the PAC is what caused a large part of the instability they are looking to get away from.
First to identify a TEWWT (so what if it was unintentional)
Don't mention that to a Mizzou fan.
It will get ugly.

or ask a un-l fan why the Big12 is unstable....

Yeah, I know
very similar to how Nub fans got offended when you mentioned something to them about…well, just about anything realting to them that doesn’t agree with their view.
Or aTm fans

Seriously,
this is one of the best times of the year for college athletics.
Thanks to aTm, OU and MU for providing reason(s) to not talk about awesome plays, which team is better and the players that are demonstrating greatness on the field (or on the volleyball court).

Or the woman's soccer pitch I guess
Bobby Hill: What's a meat examination team?
Hank Hill: It's like a debate team, only instead of doing something useless you get to grade the cut and quality of meat!
Another thing on my mind
How long will reporters be including the “after losing Colorado (PAC12) and Nebraska (B1G) last season” bit in these articles. So I guess next year, it will be “after losing CU (PAC12) and UNL (B1G) 2 years ago, and aTm (SEC) last year”.

More worrisome for me is this little snippet
The source said that Tulane would become a viable option for the Big 12 if it were to grab four schools to beef up the membership to 12, in a situation where BYU decides it doesn’t want to leave its football independence or its new tie to the WCC in all other sports.
Tulane?
Would you like some Freys with that?
The day Tulane joins the Big 12
Is the day I say fuck it and chug a liter of Everclear
Bobby Hill: What's a meat examination team?
Hank Hill: It's like a debate team, only instead of doing something useless you get to grade the cut and quality of meat!
It seems Tulane is one of a number of schools that have contacted the Big 12.
"An invasion of armies can be resisted, but not an idea whose time has come." *Victor Hugo*
Didn't Tulane leave the SEC
Because they didn’t really believe in putting sports over academics? Now they want back in to big time college sports?
Bobby Hill: What's a meat examination team?
Hank Hill: It's like a debate team, only instead of doing something useless you get to grade the cut and quality of meat!
That was partially the reason
but another part was that they didn’t feel they could keep up with the Alabama’s and LSU’s which were stocking players (back when there were no scholarship limits) and for whom finances were less a problem than a small private school. This was largely the same reason Georgia Tech exited the SEC as well in the 1960s.
I actually have no problem with an invite to Tulane – so long as they have made a firm pledge to upgrade their sports and have concrete plans for doing so. They expand our footprint, get us into New Orleans, and open up new recruiting territory. On the other hand, I completely understand others qualms about bringing them in.
Tulane
could be a good addition. it is a new market for the big 12 with an AAU school, a national name, and a long presence in a large metropolitan area.
the team suck yes but weak teams get stronger by playing good teams (which the big 12 has plenty of) and by investing more money in athletic (which being a part of an AQ conference will provide, and since Tulane is already strong in academic, it can afford to invest more in athletics)
i think we should give Tulane serious consideration.
But Furnace says Louisville is a better party town than New Orleans!

I'm too old for New Orleans
and it has a dark underbelly that, well, scares even a veteran of decadence like me. Probably the voodoo influence.
Does the old Sugar Bowl still stand. Is that where the tulips would play their games?
Louisville is a better cultural fit for the mid-west. But hell, bring em both on, and if we really want a party town, bring in the U. And UNLV.
I might as well go down swingin’ !

New Orleans is a most excellent town
If they are brought into the Big-12 I will definitely be going to every K-State road football game to the Big Easy. Now all we need to do is add Memphis and UNLV…
NOT MEMPHIS
Memphis is a shithole. There is literally nothing worth doing there, not even going to Graceland (which is just a money-grubbing tourist pit now).

Nah, Beale Street is a blast
Memphis is rough, no doubt, but a fun town.
No to Memphis - Beale ST is overrated, IMHO,

My only experience of Memphis,
is driving through there during rush hour a few times. In other words, I hate the damn place!

THIS JUST IN
although it is from Chip Brown, and I don’t have a link because I’m getting it from an unlinked C&P:
Texas has agreed, after talking with ESPN, to kill all high school-related content on the LHN.
If Mizzou leaves now, they have nothing to point at.

I think it's entirely possible
that what we’re going to see as a result of this is a lot of Southland Conference and Lone Star Conference and American Southwest Conference content making its way onto the network.
At which point Texas can turn around and say “Hey, we’re helping out the LITTLE GUYS here, and y’all are upset over that?”

so sayeth the Longhorn mouthpiece, Chip Brown.
FCS, etc.,... games for TLN
that would help build a national following ….
especially if they showed the entire battle of the bands for the schools that have those.

They'll make something up.
They’re basically all-in on this now.
"An invasion of armies can be resisted, but not an idea whose time has come." *Victor Hugo*
Just read that
from my understanding the agreement to kill all high school-related content was a quid pro quo for the 6-year granting of rights rather than 13 years. Personally, I’d rather get the 13-year granting of rights from Texas – which pretty much ensures the long-term viability of the Big-12 even in the face of “super-conference-palooza” – and let UT struggle with dealing with the NCAA on the high school stuff. Texas can only sign so many recruits and those they do they were likely to get with or without high school highlights being shown on TLN.
There's no struggle with the NCAA on the high school stuff
because the NCAA already approved the highlight package thing. Just no actual games.
The six-year thing is a red herring. They’re only doing that as an out in the event the conference gets lowballed on the Tier 1 rights in five years; the flip side of that is that any first-tier offer for big bucks is going to require an extension of the rights grant as a pre-condition, to prevent this very mess from happening again.

Nice, thanks for pointing that out
Somehow though, saying 13 years rather than 6 makes me feel all warm and secure inside…:)
That would be

I think it's too late now, even if Texas caves on everything
But hey, I’ve been wrong before about all this expansion stuff.
Tu-frackin-lane?
New Orleans is awesome but please put this Genie back in the bottle and never speak of it again.

I never thought waking up today that...
Steve Jobs would be gone and Tulane would have an outside shot at an AQ conference and a seat in the Big XII. These truly are strange times.
