Mike Stoops has been fired mid-season by Arizona. It might have taken 13 years, but karma just found ya', punk.

Posted this already in the daily thread
It’s at least some measure of justice for his coaching performance in ’98.
I was busy cheering for my Rangers,
and didn’t check the daily thread before posting this.

No worries
particularly considering the ALCS game went into extra innings. My Yankees are already bye-bye so I can just relax and watch casually now. Still can’t believe the Cards beat the Phillies.
Did you watch the Rangers game?
Craziest shit I’ve ever seen. Best baseball game I’ve ever seen.

Nope, missed it.
I’ll hear about it at the gym tomorrow from my buddy, who is a Detroit native and die-hard Lions, Red Wings and Tigers fan.
Personally, I’m still recovering from the 11-inning game 7 in the 2003 ALCS versus Boston when Aaron Boone hit the walk-off homer. Talk about having your heart in your throat. The next day in New York it felt like the Yanks had won the World Series – which probably explains their subsequent meltdown against Beckett and the Marlins. That entire ALCS series with Boston was nail-biting. But the BoSox got their revenge the next year.
I remember it was on during 'dinner'
and flipped to FOX HD real quick and here’s all of the action I got to watch:
- Perry (DET RP) staring in for the sign.
- Perry come set and begin his stretch windup.
- Perry throws a pitch.
- Ranger at the plate (I decided it was Cruz but not until I had been watching for 8-10 seconds) swings.
- CRACK!!
- Ball carries high down the left field line… easily over the wall – and inside the foul pole by a good measure!!
- Look up to see the 3 bases all yellow – a walk-off grand slam, the first in MLB post season history.
I only saw one pitch and watched for ~20 seconds. A solid, good, and exciting 20 seconds I picked to watch today. :-P

It was the most tense game I've ever seen.
My friend’s dog was on my lap, and I accidentally sent her flying across the room.

Better than Cards-Phillies?
I love me some pitching, so that game gave me some serious chills. Halliday pitched as good a game as you will see, and Carpenter one upped it.

Yes, better than that.
It also included some offense, to go with fantastic pitching.

It was 3-2 in the seventh, before Scherzer made one mistake, and Nelson Cruz tied it at 3.
Then, the Rangers loaded the bases with no outs in the 9th, and then didn’t score. I thought I was going to puke.

And nobody's posted this yet? For shame.

Goodbye, Fredo.

"I always knew it was you, Stoops."

No, seriously:
Mike’s nickname on EDSBS is “Fredo”. I don’t even know why, but damn it sure fits.

Oh. My. God.
That’s awesome!
"An invasion of armies can be resisted, but not an idea whose time has come." *Victor Hugo*
And I need to visit EDSBS more often.
"An invasion of armies can be resisted, but not an idea whose time has come." *Victor Hugo*
And it probably has something to do with the '98 betrayal.

I doubt that.
It’s probably just because he’s Bob’s incompetent little brother.

I like my story better...

Also, Fredo is older than Michael in The Godfather...

Well, true.
And I like your story better, too, but the sad fact is that the general public is blissfully unaware of the treachery of Michael and Brent.

With those two, my feelings are very different.
I hate Mike Stoops with a fiery burning hatred, hotter than a thousand suns. I feel towards Venables like one might feel if your brother, whom you were very close to, had an affair with your wife.
"An invasion of armies can be resisted, but not an idea whose time has come." *Victor Hugo*
And, yes, I know that my analogy for Venables is ironic, given the rumors that surround why he's not welcome at KSU anymore.

Evidently, there's something I haven't heard about Venables.
What’s the story?
Of course, you should have heard some of the stories about Lon Kruger when he left to go to Florida. You knew those were BS when you heard them.
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself.
He hooked up with a donor's wife.

I'm willing to forgive Brent.

I don't know if I ever can.

In that other thread, I've explained a bit about why it goes deeper for me.

San Diego State?
You know, in a package with Fresno State, it actually makes a perverse sort of sense. I doubt you can claim much market share in California, but you arrange things so that everyone has a road game in California almost every year, and it doesn’t seem nearly as crazy as it does at first glance.

I read a few of the comments in the daily thread about the Snyder/Stoops relationship.
If you’ve heard Snyder give any speeches or talks on leadership, one of the key things he talks about is not spending time worrying about relationships that “go south” (for want of a better term". I don’t think he spent much time worrying about the Stoops brothers once things were over and they had their little say, particularly Derp.
At the same time, he stresses loyalty and I just can’t see him considering Mike Stoops, Venables, or any of those who lashed out at him back into the fold. I realize that it is a cutthroat business and you’re looking at who can do the job best and make you a winner, but HCBS is so tied in to his leadership philosophy that I don’t think it will ever happen.
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself.
Agree
Mike Stoops just couldn’t let it go, either, and was still making negative comments five years after he left the Vanier complex. I imagine brother Bob throws him a lifeline, although my guess is that there will be plenty of coaches out there looking to add him to their defensive staff.
