Week 6 Big 12 recap

A recap of the action around the Big 12 during the first week of complete inconference play. Plus what the games mean and what is next for each of the teams.

  • Oklahoma 55 Texas 17- Oklahoma slammed on the gas early and didn't let up for the whole game.
  • What it means- Oklahoma is exactly who we thought it was, and Texas didn't quiet live up to their #10 ranking.
  • Whats next- For OU a score of 55-17 will probably seem like a defensive struggle as they will probably be the third team to put at least 65 on KU next week. Texas better forget about giving up 55 pretty quickly as they will host a very good Oklahoma State offense next week and can not afford another defensive meltdown.

Hit the jump to keep reading more recaps from around the Big 12.

  • Oklahoma State 70 KU 28- another good old fashion Big 12 throttling by a school from Oklahoma
  • What it means- Oklahoma State's offense might be the most dangerous offense in the country. And KU is in for another long season, if things don't start to turn around quickly Turner Gill will probably not be on the sidelines next year.
  • Whats next- Oklahoma State will have their first big test of the year when they go to Texas, a big win in Austin could be enough to impress the voters into letting the pokes jump a few teams in the polls. For KU another top 5 team and likely another blow out, wouldn't be surprised if this one gets ugly early.
  • Kansas State 24 Missouri 17- K-State jumped out to a 24-3 lead in the fourth quarter before Mizzou scored 14 points in the final period, but overcoming a 21 point deficit proved to be too difficult though.
  • What it means- K-State has a perfect 5-0 start for the first time since 2000, the cats went to the Big 12 championship and the cotton bowl that year. The Tigers slumped to 2-3, the worst start since 2001 when the Tigers went 4-7, another 4 win season could very well be on the horizon.
  • Whats next- The cats go to Texas Tech to play Red Raiders team that suffered their first lost last Saturday. The Tigers will host Iowa State, likely the third win in what might be a disappointing season.
  • Baylor 49 Iowa State 26- Baylor rebounded from a disappointing loss last week to the cats while Iowa State continued their two game skid after starting off the season 3-0
  • What it means- Baylor's offense is good, their defense not so much. Iowa State still might be good but wins like this are important if they want to make it to a bowl.
  • Whats next- Baylor will face another big test against Texas A&M next week. Iowa State will go to Columbia to play a Missouri team that has had a disappointing season so far.
  •  Texas A&M 45 Texas Tech 40- Texas A&M got a first half lead and held on (barely).
  • What it means- While it was important for Texas A&M to finally beat a decent team during the second half, they are no where near getting over their problems. Texas Tech angry and not like a composed team, wanting a win over a team for the last time.
  • Whats next- Texas A&M will host Baylor in another test game. Texas Tech will host a K-State game riding the momentum of a 5 game win streak.
