RPI WATCH: 1/6/2011

Wow, that was quite the demolition of UNLV by the BYU Cougars, who hadn't won in Las Vegas in eight years.

I guess that's one way to end a rivalry. I'm sure some will jump to the conclusion that UNLV isn't very good — and granted, the Runnin' Rebels played some of their worst defense of the year — but I think it's more that BYU is that good.

The Cougars made a great statement that they could be a top-10 caliber team, but now San Diego State awaits.

Kansas and Missouri made statements with their level of play, too, but even a 40- or 50-point blowout doesn't mean much when it comes over a bad team.

At least KU played a Division I team, though, which is more than the Tigers and Colorado can say. The Jayhawks joined Nebraska in devouring our leftovers (UMKC and Savannah State).

Also, James Madison won its second conference game, but Emporia State lost its second conference game. Call it a push.
