I'll be watching the game with a Mizzou alum.
The Unholy Alliance is getting an early start.
Are you also watching your buddy's game?
If so, I bet’s he getting pissed. His team looks like crap so far.

I don't know if he is.
But I am, and I hope Mizzou looks this lost when we play them.

This is why I think the north will
Come down to our game with Nebraska.
Every year Mizzu is supposed to be good and every year they aren’t. I may change my tune in five hours, but if we can shoot all our weapons in the same direction more than eight wins is possible.

I don't understand the timeout call.
Frankly, I think we could gain 5 yards a carry just running it up the gut all day on their line.

Looks like Coffman of last year
The Defense

but UCLA has dropped a couple and had some terrible throws on open WR’s… …
'Fact. Bears eat beets. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.' --Jim Halpert
Yeah.
I’m actually concerned about a couple of things I’ve seen. Mostly, on that 2nd-and-11, when you’ve got the QB in your hands from the blind side, you gotta do something with him. But Prince was able to complete the pass, and it was just our good fortune that it was still a 2-yard loss.
I am now channeling Will McDonald's optimism.
Hmm
When was the last time we were negative on turnover ratio? :x

Or Jonathan Beasley
Or Ell Roberson (shenanigans not withstanding)
by AMS on Sep 4, 2010 3:17 PM CDT up reply actions
Never forget Ell's Shenanigans
Selfish, stupid immaturity led to three quarters of playing with his head up his ass against Ohio State and such a disappointing end to what should have been a truly great season. And I’ll never forget him throwing a pick against Okie State in an earlier loss that season and being caught on camera pouting too hard to try to make the tackle.
Bishop’s fumble against A & M will hurt until sweet death relieves me of the memory. But Michael never failed for lack of effort or devotion to the cause. In his worst game as a starter, he got yanked for Beasley after an egregious interception thrown into a defensive lineman’s hands. But anyone else recall how Michael stuck with the play and made a stunning one-on-one tackle at the goal line? Saved the game.

No arguments here.
Roberson’s stupid decision deservedly is the first thing I think about when discussing him.
But other than that horrible last week as a Wildcat, he was electrifying. The second thing I always remember about him is how he got in the Nebraska players’ faces during the coin flip in Lincoln. Again, it was immature, and it would have made him look REALLY bad if we lost that game, but instead we were accused of running up the score.
I admittedly don’t fully appreciate how great Bishop was. I was a high school freshman and still getting into football during that ‘98 season. I was crushed by the A&M loss, but I didn’t know enough to pay attention to how special Bishop was.
What I was really getting at was the fact that our quarterbacking yesterday was, optimistically speaking, mediocre at best. Coffman reportedly puked about 10 times during the game, so here’s hoping it was a stomach bug, and he’ll be much better when he’s healthy.
by AMS on Sep 5, 2010 9:25 AM CDT up reply actions
Im hoping
Chris Harper and Broderick Smith get more involved in the game. Probably not until the second half though. Gotta get all of the butterflies outta Coffman.
If that happens

Ok for a first game of the season opening half
right now we are beating ourselves. While we don’t look anywhere near crisp and clean, the fumble on our own 10 is the only reason we are behind. Not impressed with Coffman at all. His first attempts were nothing over 10 yards and he totally missed what was a wide open receiver when all he needed to do was put it in bounds. What’s the over under on one of our backups completing this game at QB?
Coffman being Coffman
I just don’t think this team can be great behind this guy…
by williewildcrack on Sep 4, 2010 4:16 PM CDT up reply actions
All Coffman had to do
Was not lose us the game. Well he is trying his best to make sure we do. Put Lamur in and let him run the option with Thomas and Wilson back there with him. Throw in Harper and Thompson in the slot.
Alright... second half!
Let’s see a dose of DT and some big holes opened up by the uglies. Make it so all Coffman needs to do is hand off and throw quick passes. Oh and no more freakin fumbles!
Dear iPad data plan
You suck. I’m trying to follow a game here.
As bad as we are trying to beat ourselves we’re down 3. Let’s see some Snyder half time adjustments and air it out with the wildcat. I all you ever do in the wildcat is have Thomas run he may as well take a knee.

Not pretty, but damned if the KSU running game won't be a juggernaut this year
Sure, that won’t work by itself against NU or UT, but it WILL work against UCF, KU, CU and that is what we need.
Coffman isn’t a D1A QB, but he didn’t lose the game, as much as he tried. Klein needs reps (here’s hoping he can play the whole second half next week). But wow DT, Wilson and the interior line. They stood up and made UCLA their bitch. Hell yes boys. Foketi did okay too I think. Coffman held onto the damned ball too long. We’re really hurting at RT ): And I hope Smith will be good by UCF.
What a fun game.

No, I wasn't at the game
For better and worse, my fiancee’s birthday is September 6th, so I think I will miss most all season openers for the rest of time ): I love her though! And, because she’s great, she asked me a couple of months ago if I wanted to go to the UCLA game or to her family. I knew what the right answer was but darned if I didn’t want to be at the game yesterday.

it won’t be e\/eryday your D has to face a Daniel Thomas-led running game… Neuheisel will win some games this year.

Nice job carrying the thread boys.
I, like most of the main contributors, were at the game. Not every every game will be like this.
Great win. I was impressed at the UCLA fans in attendance. Wish them the best the rest of the way.

My Thoughts
Mind you because of a television debacle b/c of living in Wisconsin, I missed the first quarter. But here are my thoughts on the game.
1. the running game was awesome, both DT and Powell ran the ball effectively.
2. Wilson is just as advertised.
3. Glad to see the option, and the option run pretty well.
4. Defense was about what was to be expected, however, a bruising run offense might be a little difficult to handle for the defense.
5. Coffman needs to be more decisive. The thing I liked about Klein was that he was decisive. He pulled down the ball and ran instead of taking the sack. Although that is the only real thing we learned about him compared to Coffman. Coffman also needs to try to push the ball down field from time to time just to make sure the safetys can’t play up.
And be decisive.
6. Ayers is a beast. I’d love for him to be on my nfl team next year.
This just in ...
KU is down, 6-3, to North Dakota State at the start of the fourth quarter.

1300 miles away… I can say it was the most terrible KSU football experience for a non-con game I’\/e had – only way it can be worse? By actually losing.

It was a good day for the Unholy Alliance.
My Mizzou-grad friend said he wasn’t sure whether he was happier that Mizz and K-State won in comeback fashion over quality(ish) competition, or that KU lost so apparently flatly.
I’m trying not to be so giddy about KU’s loss, precisely because I remember Prince’s debut all too well. Turner Gill was put in a really tough situation, taking over a team that lost virtually all of its offensive playmakers. He also probably felt a little bit handcuffed in his dealings with players, considering the circumstances that got his predecessor the boot.
I have no idea how the rest of the season will go for KU. I don’t imagine it will be good, and even 0-12 isn’t unimaginable. But Gill’s entire tenure won’t be that bad, or if it is, it will be very short.
I may be in the minority of k-state fans, but...
… I wasn’t that happy to see ku lose. I would much rather both Kansas schools be successful in all sports. Obviously, sentiments change when we play each other.
I didn’t always think that way… Guess living in tx for a while and defending the state of Kansas in all the realignment talk kind of changed my opinion. Plus, ksu vs. ku has always been, quite literally, a sibling rivalry for me.
by Bauer Power on Sep 5, 2010 9:48 AM CDT via mobile reply actions
I certainly do prefer
KU to win every game that doesn’t directly affect KSU in standings or status…
However, if they are going to lose to NDSU we don’t need to sugarcoat how pitiful that is and the possible outcomes from it. Losing to NDSU definitely shows they have the ability to play low enough to hit 0-12, however sound reasoning leads me to believe they’ll get some wins somewhere and Snyder forbid it be KSU later this year.
I hear ya on that “defending the state of Kansas” thing – the West Coast is no easier to convince of how great Kansas really is. Hard to believe as it may be, I still get comments about Dorothy/Toto, do we really have the same TV/internet, how boring nothing must be, etc etc even in this day of the Web and everywhere being intimately documented with Wiki, Google, and blah blah blah. Same things that lead me to root for WSU basketball and baseball and all the “State” schools (Emporia, Fort Hays, etc) and CC’s.
'Fact. Bears eat beets. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.' --Jim Halpert
The problem with that line of thinking
is that the state only produces so many D-I players, and we have to fight KU for all of them.
The rise of KU football coincides with the fall of K-State football under Prince, and we started to see the Monty Beisels and Terence Newmans of the state start choosing the Jayhawks.
Things are swinging back our way, but we’re not there yet — mainly because MU, NU and OU still are cherry-picking the best players. A period of prolonged suckage on KU’s part would be helpful in that regard.
I’ve always held that if NU had to compete against another in-state school, college football history would be significantly different. Having a fellow in-state school in a low-population state is something of a handicap.
I decided it might be interesting to
take a jaunt this morning over to Bruin Nation’s live thread(s) from yesterday for this game and read through them.
Over 1400 comments total (excluding the large post-game thread) took over an hour. I have to admit that it makes me feel so GOOD to come back to the environment we have at BOTC after reading the BN threads. They were never behind by more than one score (2-pt conversion considered) and manyt of the comments were self-bashing, narcissistic, and simply inane in the grand scheme of college football and fandom (which I concede endows the fan to be a little biased and over-reactive).
Maybe two or three times in 1400 posts did I see anything related from them regarding the prowess of DT’s running abilities. Similarly seldom but yet more often on KSU in general, though they did give props to DT, Snyder, and the Family on a couple occasions (every fan base has their lemons and those that make the lemonade).
So all that considered, I want to personally (in so much as black and white text on a monitor can provide for) thank all the BOTC “staffers” and followers (pats self on back) for staying mostly high class and optimistic.
And best wishes to UCLA for their upcoming 11+ games this season – keep in mind BSFS is no easy place to play with a ground game like we have and hope to keep this season.
Good game ’Cats and continue to manifest the Snyder mantra – be better today than you were yesterday!

While I appreciate the sentiment
I certainly can remember being not-too-classy in my semi-meltdown during the Texas Tech game last season. I even got called out by another blog on it.
We’re all human. Especially when our team is losing.
60+ to next-to-nothing...
against a one-score the whole game contest? I understand your point; however, BN’s thread was a microcosm of the West Coast mentality that I “experience” every day that I get up and interact with sports here.
:-(
Also, I might add first game of the year vs middle of the year in conference games…
Not to excuse any outburst you had (I never saw it) but I would not treat them similarly knowing (limitedly) what I know…

I posted my thoughts on the BN post-mortem page (I think that is what they called it)
I thought the guys were very gracious in the post-mortem anyway. Sure, a bit of narcissism, but what do you expect? It isn’t their fault they’ve barely heard of KSU and Snyder. I’m not trying to be a jerk. It is because of geography. Really, they reminded me of some of the BOTC bball season (I wasn’t around for football last year) complaints we had those few times the Cats did poorly. For example, the embarrassment with OSU.
I don't measure a man's success by how high he climbs but how high he bounces when he hits bottom. - Gen. George S. Patton
Any relatively large gathering of fans...
…is going to expose a few of those issues. The guys who run Bruins Nation are top notch and have been nothing but gracious and respectful of K-State all week. There have been more than a few times where I’ve written things on here of which I am not proud and wish I could retract, but the best you can do is learn from them and try to do better next time.
