I'll be the first to say it
the refs in the Xavier game cost you this game
How did that happen?
You remember that reach-in foul non-call that happened in the final seconds of regulation? The refs fail to call that foul, which woujld have meant two FTs, and instead wait for him to be fouled while shooting, which means 3 FTs, which means tie game, which means overtime. You then end up going to double overtime, which left you physically spent, and with dead legs going into the Butler game. Butler isn’t a better team than K-State, but they were more rested, and that made all the difference.
No missing the reach-in, no overtime, and Kansas State is in the Final Four right now.
I Concur
Though I’m sure your analysis has more weight. Anytime guys are leaving the shots short, the legs are not there. I don’t care what the players said, the visual indicated differently. No question the heart was there.
Interesting that the players all said they had plenty of juice, but that they felt out of it mentally. That goes with the fatigue factor as well.
At this point, it doesn’t matter. I didn’t shed any tears, although I know I did feel bad for the guys, especially Clemente. That kid has so much heart. He didn’t get the credit from a lot of sources for the way he played Thursday for about 15 minutes of that second half.
Thanks, Cats. Can’t wait till next year now.
I didn't have a dog in the Xavier/K-State game
I wasn’t really rooting for either team, and although I would have liked to see a Big 12 team advance, I didn’t care either way. I was watching the game with my father, though, and he called out that non-call right away. After they got screwed on that non-call, I was rooting for State to win it.
I was also annoyed at the announcers, who seemed to be pulling for Xavier.
Meh
Butler schemed us perfectly. As long as we start Lu and Dom, we were doomed to a bad offensive start in the game. Once you do that against Butler, you’re hosed because they. Simply. Do. Not. Beat. Themselves.
I have argued this same
side quite a bit since Saturday, BC. The lineups we played and the style Butler plays with what I see as their game plan and execution of said plan – they were the better team that day.

I think this season will be a good learning time for Coach Martin
It seems to me he has a way to go before he catches up with Self in the strategery part of the game, so I hope he will look at this season and figure out what’s next.
