Manhattan A Possible Destination For Former National #1 Recruit?

Bryce Brown, the former #1 recruit of the 2009 class and Olathe, KS native, might be done at Tennessee.  I believe his brother already transfered to K-State, correct? If Brown really wants to come home because of family issues, KSU would be a logical place for him to transfer to.

I don't know what your current depth chart looks like at RB, but I'm sure y'all could find a place for Brown. I don't know if he is the back he was hyped to be, because he didn't show much last year at Tennessee, but that was a weird situation for him to go into anyway.

I guess the bigger question would be if Snyder is willing to deal with Brown and his street agent and all of the baggage he brings with him.

To answer some questions

1. Yes, Arthur is now a Wildcat.
2. Our depth chart at RB is pretty good I suppose. We have 4* Demarcus Robinson coming in next year and he looks very impressive. He will probably get decent playing time behind Daniel Thomas if he doesn’t redshirt.
3. I think he had a pretty decent freshman season at UT being a backup. That post from Rocky Top Talk said something about 460 yards and 3 scores? Hell that would have been a decent season at K-State a few years back… There had been a pretty big gap between Darren Sproles and Daniel Thomas.
4. Manhattan and Bill Synder could be exactly what Bryce might need. Close to home, a great and respectable coach to mold him (I doubt Lane is/was half the man Bill is), and a step down from the national stage. Manhattan is about as far away from the media as you can get being in a BCS conference and it’s not like Bill Snyder hasn’t produced elite top talent before.
5. I have no comment on this “street agent.”

You need to watch out for the Brown's "agent"

he’s bad news. The Browns seem like really good kids, both pulled down good grades in HS but they were sold out by this jackass. Their recruiting got awfully dirty, hopefully none of that baggage comes with them.

I don't like the smell of him either

Guys like Butler don’t belong in college football – or in college alltogether. These recruits aren’t being effected by it that much – it’s the schools that get into trouble.

Look at Reggie Bush. Talk about dirty recruiting. He seems to be doing just “fine” in the NFL leaving USC the potential to be drastically screwed. Same goes for Derrick Rose. The fact that Memphis had to vacate all of their wins didn’t have any effect on him being drafter number 1.

To pile on to this post...

I’ll lump Kelvin Sampson into that segment. The guy comitted violations at two schools within 3 FREAKING YEARS and yet he’s getting along swell in the NBA while Tom Crean is left to pick up his mess at IU. Granted, OU and IU didn’t exactly get slammed by the NCAA, but Sampson sure as hell didn’t feel the effects.

Until coaches start getting penalized personally (suspensions from coaching or television appearances), we’ll continue to see this type of behavior.

Now, Butler is a totally different story because he has no ties to any school. So, he’ll continue to do whatever in the hell it is that he is doing as long as misguided athletes and parents think he’s doing what’s “in their best interest”.

I like our odds

I’ve heard speculation he might follow the Kiffinator to USC, but I have to think he feels a little betrayed by that guy after the stunt he pulled.

Considering two of his Potential Players buddies already led the way, his brother is here now and his dad is a vocal fan of Bill Snyder, I reiterate that I like our chances.

But not getting him won’t break us, as mystman pointed out.

Um, wasn't he out of Wichita?

I’m not happy about this kid going to KSU but I am happy that in-state talent is going to an in-state school. Good for you guys…damnit.

Yeah, they're Wichita kids...

…and that city has put out a fair amount of football talent in recent years. Chris Harper was from Wichita, too.

I won’t pretend to know what the situation is with Brian Butler, but it seems to me his influence over these kids may be waning. It looks like he sold them on a dream — playing major college football at Oregon, Miami or Tennessee — that just wasn’t what they wanted. Harper went to Oregon and transferred home, Arthur Brown went to Miami and transferred back home, and now it seems like Bryce Brown is going to transfer back from Tennessee.

We'll carry the banner high!

Why am I not happy about this?

Maybe the brothers will prove to be pillars of the team in two years. But I think there is a greater chance of them being flops like that Simmons kid a few years ago.

Anyway, welcome home Bryce.

It just sounds like these kids were "forced" into thinking they'd be better off at other schools

when it’s obvious now they should have stayed close to home. Blame the media hype. Blame Brian Butler. Blame Ron Prince.

Don't forget Brodrick Smith leaving Minnesota

Butler worked with him, too.

0 for 4 ain’t good for business. But the NCAA shut him down anyway.

Should I?

Be excited or confused?

And on the 3rd year he rose again...

Excited!

Blake Bell is at Oklahoma, so expect him to transfer to Manhattan in March 2011.

Or confused!

The NCAA has no idea how to reign in guys like Brian Butler.

I doubt that

He’d have to sit out two years for transferring within the conference. Most kids won’t do that.

Talent is talent, dude

And we damn sure need more of it.

If Bill says he can make it work, I will trust him.

by BracketCat on Mar 20, 2010 1:43 PM CDT up reply actions

The talent is already on its way. Just compare this year's recruiting vs. the last Prince group.

Also even Prince’s group have gained more and developed better using the Snyder method…and it shows in their performance.

by Catbacker98 on Mar 20, 2010 5:04 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, but it ain't five-star talent

We’re talking about the No. 1 overall player here.

by BracketCat on Mar 20, 2010 6:43 PM CDT up reply actions

I think Snyder would agree that one player does not a team make.

Besides Snyder has always gotten more out of 3 star and lower 4 star athletes than a whole paddock of OU and UT 5 stars.

by Catbacker98 on Mar 21, 2010 12:26 AM CDT up reply actions

True

Most people bash our recruiting classes but forget their weren’t ridiculusly good recruiting classes in the first version of the Manhattan Miracle

And on the 3rd year he rose again...

by EMAWrising on Mar 21, 2010 1:57 AM CDT up reply actions

Haha my EMAW brethren

I don’t know about Blake Bell he’s somewhat still close to home and these kids all seem to get homesick but here’s to hoping that Bill Snyder is pondering the ways to get him home too.

And on the 3rd year he rose again...
