RPI WATCH: 2/3/2010

Give a round of applause to Western Illinois, which picked up only its ninth win of the season last night.

And a round of jeers for Mississippi, which continues to plummet in a relatively mediocre SEC. There's no shame in losing at Kentucky, but there is some shame in only being 4-4 in conference play. The home loss to Arkansas is just a killer.

That caption begs several questions:

How does KSU smoke A&M and lose at MU, but then A&M wins in Columbia?

How does an unranked OSU squad beat that Cats at home?

How does NU and CU play the Jay-chickens so hard, but fold against the Cats?

All good points

I know what you’re getting at, but it’s interesting to me that some trends actually predict all of those outcomes.

1. Mark Turgeon has never beat Frank in the regular season.

2. Frank has never won in Columbia.

3. Mike Anderson has never defeated Texas A&M. Interestingly, one of his assistant coaches is former aTm head coach Melvin Watkins.

4. Frank has never beat Travis Ford and oSu has only lost two games in Manhattan since the Big 12 was formed.

5. KU always brings its ‘A’ game to Manhattan, but usually sleepwalks in Boulder. Lincoln is a 50/50. K-State’s style of play is best suited against non-athletic teams, which accurately describes the Buffs and the Huskers.
