RPI WATCH: 2/10/2010
I don't have much to say about last night.
Thanks to Boston's tough one-point loss at home, Alabama's surprisingly competitive loss in Rupp Arena and Oklahoma's choke job at home, our RPI and SOS both slipped a spot.
Meanwhile, Texas Tech slowly is clawing its way back onto the bubble with a sweep of the Sooners. There still aren't any quality wins, but the RPI is solid and the Red Raiders have a chance to make some noise in the days ahead. I'd still classify them as a long shot at this point, though.

KSU is 6-4 vs Top-50 RPI, and has RPI of 8?
I like it, but it seems a little strange to me because it seems high. But then, those are the Cats only losses.
NCAA
Depending how the end of the schedule turns out, it seems like K-State is going to be between a 3-5 seed in the tourney.
We'll be at least a 3
If not a 2.
Do not underestimate the value of our RPI and SOS, as well as conference RPI (No. 1). That will move us ahead even teams with slightly better win-loss records.
Dammit OSU
I didn’t realize they are now 4-5 in the Big 12. How many losses until their flopping starts to hurt the Cats?
And how in the hell did the Cats lose that game!? I’m getting more angry about it now than I did when it happened!
Hard to win
when ksu allows a guy to score over 30 points…add in Pullen’s horrid shooting performance…

I don't see them dropping out of the RPI Top 100, if that's what you're worried about
But I desperately want another shot at them in the Big 12 Tournament. My last spin of the bracket generator had us facing them in Round 2, so I’m holding out hope…
Come on #3 in OKC!
Spring break, going to be 3 hours from OKC in Wichita, that couldn’t work better for me!
As things stand now
The Mock Selection dealio had us as the #9 seed overall, which is the best of the #3 seeds. Lunardi has us as a #3 seed, and we’re the best #3 seed for him as well (as evidenced by him voting us #9 in ESPN’s Power Rankings).
Basically, so long as we don’t blow a gasket before the end of the month, don’t get humiliated in Lawrence, and reach the semis at least in the tournament, I think we can expect a 2 seed when it’s all said and done… because someone else is going to slip.
This space for rent.
Agreed
This February schedule almost makes us the favorite.
Plus Georgetown and West Virginia play each other. I suspect the loser will end up a 3 seed.
I’m not convinced Duke won’t lose a few more, too, especially now that all this Coach K speculation is out there. Hell, they might lose tomorrow, and at Maryland and at Virginia won’t be a cakewalk, either. Not to mention the ACC Tournament.
And Purdue already has proven capable of long slides.
We’re in damn good shape.
