RPI WATCH: 11/29/2010

Feast Week ended with a bang when UNLV pulled away from Virginia Tech in the second half of the 76 Classic championship game. I still think Virginia Tech will be a solid ball club and the Hokies frankly should be favored this week at home against Purdue, but they have no bench and are overly reliant on Malcolm Delaney's scoring.

UNLV, on the other hand, is a deep and complete team. The Rebels remind me a lot of K-State, with a plethora of long athletes who just come off the bench, one after the other, and wear you down. They're not especially proficient in long-distance shooting, but once inside the arc, they're almost unstoppable. They'll be a handful at Sprint Center.

In the third-place game, Oklahoma State jumped out to a 10-0 lead over Murray State, then basically didn't score the rest of the first half. But they pulled away in the second half behind the torrid 3-point shooting of Keiton Page, who finally lifted the lid on his personal basket-making ability in style. The Pokes are a good team, but not a great one.

In other opponents' action, Texas A&M took care of business against an overrated Temple squad with no interior presence, Florida stole a win on the home court of its in-state rival and Colorado dropped yet another road game against a mediocre mid-major opponent. Bzdelik, why did you even schedule those games?
