Coffman May Lose Starting Quarterback Job
I love Carson's grit, but "grit" isn't going to beat most of the team's left on our schedule, ability is, and -- unfortunately -- this is where Carson is lacking. Collin Klein and Sammuel Lamur are both better options at this point.

Finally!!!
For four years now I’ve been watching Coffman coming in in blowouts just to see him throw another interception. So, at the start of the season when I heard he was going to be our qb i was more than just a little bit concerned for our team at that position. I haven’t liked how he’s played in any of the times I’ve seen him. I thought he had turned over a new leaf after that UCF game, but once again he showed that he is just as inconsistent as he has been. At the same time, I do not put all the blame on him for this though. I think that if we would have actually stuck to passing the ball more in the first half it would have worked out a little better because he might have been able to get into a grove, but at the same time he missed several open receivers by throwing it at their feet or just straight up missing throwing the thing. I tried to give him a clean slate this year, but I just can’t take it anymore. We’ve got to have someone better than this. Sorry Carson, but you’ve had five years now to prove that you can lead the team and haven’t been able to come through for us. It’s time for a change, and I don’t just mean the quarterback. We can’t be afraid to throw it more. Handing the ball off to Thomas up the middle seven times in a row isn’t going to work the rest of the year. The teams are a lot better than those we played in the first four games and I think we got quite the wake-up call in that last game.
In college football
its almost imperative to have a QB who can run in addition to throw. Very few teams have a immobile pocket passer, even qb’s like Blaine Gabbert & Andrew Luck can move out of the pocket and make plays if need be. Coffman seems like he works hard and tries his best and I don’t think Klein or Lamur is suddenly going to make the team great but I think they need to start playing and at least open up some of the playbook.

It's kind of funny
At the game Thursday night, my dad and I decided we couldn’t take it any more and left during the third quarter. I noticed as we left, we could hear Collin Klein being introduced over the PA, and I could also hear multiple first downs. Then on the radio, we heard Sammuel Lamur get subbed in as well, and it sounded like decent offensive production was happening. I really believed in Coffman, but I just hate how damn indecisive he is. He just seems to freeze up sometimes, and I don’t know that he’s the answer to the problem of quarterback. I won’t lie, I only have seen Collin Klein briefly playing in the UCLA game, and sucking it up pretty badly.

When it came to Klein and Lamur
I do have to say that it was probably a little easier for them to get first downs than it was for Coffman because by that time Nebraska had their scrubs in, but at the same time they actually made decisions and tried moving the ball. I do agree with you that Coffman is incredibly indecisive, he has been all year, he has made some improvements, but not in any sort of leaps and bounds like he needed to. Like I said before, he has had FIVE YEARS! to make an impact and improve his play, and he still hasn’t done that. Enough is enough… It’s time to pull the plug on Coffman.
Plus, our early schedule next year is brutal
Miami and UCF on the road! Could be ugly, so I say get Lemur or Klein some experience. I think we can get to 7-5 with either of them. We can’t assume Tuggle is going to be “great” right off the bus.
oh hail the Purple and White
The more I see
of Daniel Sams, the more I think he’s the future at QB for us. Not sure if that’s next year (he’ll be a true freshman), but soon enough.

who's from Blinn?
You mean Tuggle right?

...yes?
He said we can’t assume Tuggle etc., I said sure we can.
I am now channeling Will McDonald's optimism.
Oops, i misread...
I thought your replied to Scott. My bad.

I'm sorry, I would love to read all of what you have to say
but I tuned you out at “decided we couldn’t take it any more and left during the third quarter.”
Are you serious? I presume – possibly dangerously so – that you would have stated any serious reason you had for doing so (besides “decided” and/or anything relating to performance of the teams on the field).

He can play for sure...
The only red flag i see is he doesn’t start at QB for his HS team., He’s 2nd string. Not a big deal to me, cuz i just think the coach is maximizing his talents. However it REALLY bothers some.

Where do you get that?
I can’t see anywhere that says that Sams isn’t starting for Sallen (his team). Where are you seeing that?

Here's one link.
Again, he was the starter last year, but ran into some “issues” off the field. They are alternating now, or last i knew. I might do some more goggling later.

I think
what they’re doing is running the other guy in on like alternate plays or something, while leaving Sams in the whole time. When the other kid comes in, Sams just switches to RB/WR. I found a box score where Sams was 4-7-104 with a TD through the air, caught 3 passes for 99 yards and a TD, and ran the ball 1 time for 6 more yards. It sounds like the other kid can pass a bit, so they figured they would find a way to get both guys some time on the field, while maximizing Sams touches.

Here's another one...
Sams is still one hell of a player, as you can read in here…
by WillieWannabe on Oct 9, 2010 5:16 PM CDT up reply actions
Yeah
That’s the game I was talking about above. He passed for a TD, caught a TD, and even had a pick that he took to the house. From the interviews I’ve read with him, Coach Snyder has basically told him, “If you come here, we’re using you at QB.”
by K. Scott Bailey on Oct 9, 2010 5:18 PM CDT up reply actions
Really? You think he will QB?
You never know what Snyder is going to do next week through the media let alone a year ahead of time. At this point expect him to be listed as Athlete and then the staff will locate his natural position on the team. Let’s not forget Cosh set several State of Maryland records during his senior year as QB. I think next year will clearly be a battle for the starting position.
I think
By at least 2012 we will see Daniel Sams at QB, and maybe by next year. Sams has made it clear that the whole reason he chose KSU over the SEC teams that were chasing him was that they wanted him to play DB and Snyder told him he’d be a QB at KSU.

Yeah, but it's behind a paywall at GoPowerCat
It’s a video of Sams talking about his recruitment. I’ll see if I can find a print source.

All I can think of now is this season.
To me, it doesn’t matter too terribly much who our QB is going to be next season, the problem that still lies is what are we going to do this season because Coffman has screwed up too many times and can’t be allowed to continue “leading” our team. If we want to continue being successful later this year we need someone that can throw it to alleviate the pressure off of Thomas. It’s kinda hard to run the ball against 8 man fronts the whole game.
I don't think the offense is the problem...
Listen, I’m not defending Coffman (anymore), he clearly isn’t a good quarterback. But as long as our offense can be semi-productive, which it has shown it can be with Coffman, we would be fine.
The problem is our defense can’t compete with the top offenses. As has been mentioned ad nauseum our defense is too slow in it’s current incarnation.
Would Lamur or Klein make us an explosive offense? Maybe, but I think the reason we haven’t seen more of them is that Snyder felt our defense was better than it was, and so we just needed to minimize mistakes on offense to be able to win games.
After Nebraska, I think he will be looking for a more explosive QB, but I also think if we can ‘fix’ our defense he will be fine with our offense as is.
