K-State Slate: 10.21.10
It's good to hear that K-State is focusing on Robert Griffin III. He's definitely the primary player I am worried about.
It's the middle of the week (although now we're thankfully on the downhill side of it), so it must be time for musings.
Missouri is playing Oklahoma this weekend. That means it must be time for the Sooner Disrespect Chronicles on RMN.
As mentioned yesterday, North Texas head coach Todd Dodge has been fired. UNT is 1-6 on the season, so while I hope we don't go down to Denton with bowl eligibility still on the line, I'm pretty confident that we can get a win there.

Good news for KSU (I think)
Childs has been making lots of tackles the last couple of weeks. Bad news for KSU, Childs is still young, and I don’t think he’s fast enough to cover RG3 all the time. But at least KSU won’t have to spy Griffin with Hrebec.
Better news, KSU has some good corners. Worst news of all, KSU’s safeties are going to get smoked this game.
Can you tell I’m really pessimistic about this game?

The positive is...
even with some great plays at CU, they still had to come back to win in a close one. We can score on their D. I would have Childs in Griffin’s jock strap every down because as gutsy as he may be, he will make throwing errors when pressured constantly.
You are right that this one could get ugly if we don’t have our shit together, but I just don’t see that happening twice to a man named Snyder.

I would agree if the memories of TT and the Mizzou games last year weren't so fresh
The KSU D got pantsed twice last year and both times were against two of the three best O’s the Cats faced (A&M gagged hugely). This year KSU has been smoked by the one good (but very one dimensional) O they’ve faced. Baylor has a terrific offense (massive thud against TCU notwithstanding), OSU is even better, Mizzou can’t run but boy they can pass. Yikes.
What I wouldn’t give to have Koennig back.

but the Mizzou game was closer than it looked
we turned the ball over in critical situations and opted for four field goals.

And Danario Alexander pimp slapped the entire KSU defense over and over again.
It didn’t help that DT couldn’t do jack, but I still think the reason KSU lost the game was Bank’s fumble for a touch-back. Mizzou had lost to Baylor the previous week. They were terribly fragile. I think if KSU gets a TD there and goes up by 10 MU would have folded.

Watched RGIII against CU
Man, this guy is pretty damn salty. Runs the zone read just as good as Martinez @ NU – he has some nice keepers for long yards. He also throws the ball well… when he can set his feet.
If K-State can get him out of the pocket (and not to a point where he runs the ball) and make him throw on the run, he is awful.
sry didn't see your comment before...exactly right about throwing on the run

Another article, this one about Cherry
http://www.kansas.com/2010/10/19/1549616/kansas-states-cherry-enjoys-expanded.html – I was so happy that he got over his issues at the start of last year (you know, like keeping the team from bowl eligibility because he whiffed so bad at LaLa) to turn into a solid kicker.

And one about Coffman
http://www.kansascity.com/2010/10/20/2336856/coffman-is-confident-he-can-continue.html – I would like to meet Coffman. I think he sounds like a pretty decent guy (an anti-May, in maybe too many ways).

like I've been saying...
from the article: “First, he made few — if any — mistakes against the Jayhawks. Instead of forcing the ball into coverage, he checked down to other receivers or took off running. For the first time, he felt as if he wasn’t trying to do too much.”
Yeah, he sounds like the type of guy you’d want to have a beer with. As long as he continues to improve, doesn’t make the same mistake twice … not sure we can ask for anything more. Plus he also sounds like the type of player HCBS wants —> all about the team and not the self.
I’m happy he is improving and is avoiding dumb errors … that he had the best game of the season (so far) against KU is icing on the cake.

Looks like maybe even top 4!
Not that there is much difference, but I’ll take what I can get.

Why do you say top 4?

They have a graphic saying who will be #1?
And they only have 4 logos, one of them being K-State’s.
It also gives us a shot at being #1, I suppose, not that I really want to be there right now.

Yeah, immediately after I asked that question, I figured it out. Thanks!
