Wildcats Rise to 27th in National Polls
You have to click on the "View Complete Poll" link at the bottom to see it, but we're back up th 27th in both now, trailing only Northwestern (?!?) in one and USC in the other.

Northwestern is also 5-1
Lost a very tough one to Purdue at home. I was watching much of that game and was really impressed with both the NW QB Dan Persa and the way the defense flew around the ball, even in the loss.
Amazing fact: Under Coach Fitzgerald, NW is now 17-4 (including the loss to Purdue) in games decided by seven points or less. That’s absolutely mind-blowing to me. As an example, I’d be wiling to bet that the Wildcats in 2 1/2 years under Ell Roberson alone lost more than four games by less than a TD.
Bottom line is that I see no injustice in the Cats being ranked 22nd. Win on the road at a tough Baylor team and they would likely be deserving. And certainly, an upset over OSU or UT would be very convincing. But given the offensive inconsistency and the defensive limitations, I’m not convinced that this team is in the top 20% of all college football programs this year. I’d love, however, to have reason to be more convinced.

I do like what I’ve seen from Coffman in terms of accuracy that last couple of games, but (as we’ve been over and over) he and the defense are limited. I think a win against Baylor will get the Cats into the top 25, at least for a week (given the usual attrition in the polls), which would feel really nice before taking on UT.
I do like the #22 by the BCS. I’m going to have to look at the computers and see what they think of the Cats.
Good for Fitzgerald and NW. Hard to cheer against the little guy in any conference. And MrHappy, the Cats lost to UT and OSU both by 4 points, and then to THE OSU by 7. Yuck.

Computers like Cats
because of UCLA and UCF, I think. As for N’western, the thing that made me question was that they barely beat a TERRIBLE (we’re talking KU bad, if not worse) Minnesota team.

14, 14, 13, 21, 21, 0 (I guess 0 means the Cats aren't on it?), and #25 in Harris poll
Looks pretty good to me. Thanks UCF and… maybe UCLA? What the heck is going on with UCLA? They barely beat WSU (it was tied deep in the 4th quarter) and got smoked by Stanford and Cal, but beat UT like a drum? Was UT that overrated? UCLA was VERY lucky to get all those turnovers, but I thought that game meant UCLA wasn’t that bad.
Good point Scott, I thought NW had played someone worth something. Nevermind. Minny is their best win, and they lost at home to Purdue. So much for NW being ranked the rest of the year.

Don't get me wrong
I like it when N’western does well — they ARE purple Wildcats, with a mascot named “Willie the Wildcat” after all — I just didn’t understand why they were up where they were.
