H/T to Corn Nation for the Thursday Night game update.
Sept. 4 UCLA
Sept. 11 Missouri State
Sept. 18 @ Iowa State (Arrowhead)
Sept. 25 Central Florida
Oct. 7 Nebraska (Thursday - ESPN)
Oct. 16 @ Kansas
Oct. 23 @ Baylor
Oct. 30 Oklahoma State
Nov. 6 Texas
Nov. 13 @ Mizzou
Nov. 20 @ Colorado
Nov. 27 @ North Texas
This looks like a pretty interesting schedule to me. Only one FCS team this year! A few notes:
- Hopefully we can avenge the UCLA game this time. Win this one and it's likely that we can sweep the nonconference schedule.
- Well we got the Thursday night game on ESPN with Nebraska.....
- Not a fan of closing the schedule with three away games. Not too terribly tough, but that is definitely not the way we want to end the season.
- Finally a Thanksgiving weekend game! I know I'll be there in Denton. I'm really surprised Bill didn't try and buy his way out of that one...

This schedule isn't so great for those with season tickets
I was hoping to purchase season tickets (since I go to most of the games anyway). Thursday night games are difficult for people with work the next day that live 2+ hours away and only 2 other Big 12 games at home?? (I know Iowa State counts as a home game this year, but Arrowhead is not the same as Bill Snyder Stadium!).
I agree
I was trying to be “nice” when writing this up.
The Thursday night home game blows. It blows big time. It’s only nice for the out-of-state alums who wouldn’t have made it up for the game anyway (this includes me).
Only 5 Saturday home games. Yikes. Bill Synder must be rolling over in his…..err…. how’d this happen again?

Welcome to the New Era
Clearly, John Currie wears the scheduling spurs now. This schedule was built to maximize TV revenue.
I have no problem with the Thursday game, because it will set out no matter what. If we don’t Fill the Bill, the Huskers will.
OTOH, it will net a ton of revenue and, like Big Monday and Gameday tomorrow, will serve as a great marketing tool for our program and our university.
It also gives us two mini-bye weeks before our two biggest rivals: Nubb and KU. I bet that’s how ADJC sold it to HCBS.
Sounds good to me
I hope this keeps Snyder from wussing out of the great non-con match-ups later in the decade.
A thought...
K-State is still reeling from the Prince fiasco and is probably looking to become a bit more fiscally secure. Hence a Thursday game and home and away series with North Texas and UCF. The era of buying these games out has probably come to an end.

Agreed
I don’t think we have the money to buy out of those games, and then pay for guarantee games on top of that.
No worse than this years schedule...
Plus, I’m excited about the Thursday night game. I’ll take North Texas over UMass or Tennessee Tech anytime. Missouri State is a bummer, but Snyder will always be Snyder.

Limited Opportunities
Could be there weren’t many scheduling opportunities out there at the time. The is the same scenario that was behind picking up Tennessee Tech this past year.

It was signed as a Home-Away-Home series
Similar to the Marshall contract we had a few years back. Not ideal for sure….

Not ideal, but the best we're gonna get
Guarantee games cost $1 million + anymore.
They almost cost more than they net. This is the way we’ll have to do business going forward. Better schools, like UCF, command a home-and-home. At least we’re getting two home dates out of the UNT deal.
P.S.
Sadly, we don’t have the money to buy out of Denton. It’s that or give Frank an extension, people. Pick your poison.
As long as
UNT doesn’t show up with Scott Bakula at QB and Kim Ireland as their kicker, it’s all good.
This space for rent.
My thoughts exactly...
and on Thanksgiving weekend no less…
Having the last home game in the first week of November sucks already, but to finish down there is just bizarre.

Thanksgiving weekend.....
is a great time to travel down there. Catch the game in Denton and party and shopp in Dallas and Ft Worth
We should not complain...
We were able to eliminate one FCS opponent…so that won’t bite us in the arse. Maybe we can get rid of them altogether next year Misters Snyder and Currie?
I doubt it
since we have both Oregon and Miami(FL) already on tap.

As I understand it...
The exception can not be used in consecutive years…so a win against a FCS team can only be counted once every 2 years. Maybe we should research this a bit more as I am still a bit unsure how it works.

The Nebraska game
just gives me a legitimate excuse to take that Friday off.
Yes, in my world, a K-State football game and most likely subsequent hangover is deemed “legitimate”, HR be damned.

One more thought:
I’d rather end a season with three straight road games than begin it with them, which is almost what we had to do this year.
If you’re not good enough to win at Boulder and Denton after getting beat down in Columbia, then you’re not going anywhere after Thanksgiving anyway.
But if you are good enough, one and maybe two more games away from home await…
I hate...
…and by hate, I mean HATE the Thursday night game. Last year, I made my feelings on Thursday night games very well known, and I stand by those points.
Now, if I were ever to be talked into a Thursday night game, it would be someone like, oh, Central Florida. That’s a game that is probably not going to be on TV otherwise, so moving it to Thursday night makes sense, because it guarantees TV revenue that otherwise wouldn’t be available.
That rationale is not similarly available for Nebraska. If both teams are having decent-to-good seasons, that game will be on TV, even if it is FSN or Versus. I believe we were on ABC this year for the Big 12 North Championship Game. Not to mention we are making it a pain in the ass for our fans to get to Manhattan for the game against our biggest football rival. As someone said above, we’re probably just guaranteeing that a bunch of Husker fans with disposable income and nothing better to do will end up in our stadium.
I really like John Currie, but playing Nebraska on Thursday night is not a good decision, in my most humble opinion.
We'll carry the banner high!
Bring On The Cats
Maybe it was Snyder who pushed for it
Otherwise we wouldn’t have a bye week, and we know he’s big on that. This way, he gets two pseudo bye weeks in a row.
We were on ESPN2, I believe
It was our only national broadcast.
I think if the game would have been on the ESPN family of networks regardless, then I agree with you.
But I’ll take ESPN over Versus or FCS any day of the week. The exposure and the payout for those shit networks is laughable compared to what the WWL can offer.
