RPI WATCH: 1/27/2010
Man, what happened to Dayton? It almost seems like it's falling apart under the weight of preseason expectations.
Shortly after we beat them, I labored under the apparently mistaken assumption that the Flyers eventually would re-enter the Top 25.
That doesn't appear likely anymore.
The latest blow came with a crushing one-point loss to Rhode Island, which desperately needed the win after dropping a game at Xavier. The Rams' victory snapped Dayton's 30-game home winning streak, which was fourth-longest in the nation, and sent Brian Gregory's team tumbling to 3-3 in the Atlantic 10. Ouch.
Luckily, the Cardiac Cats continue to offset misfortunes such as this by racking up quality wins faster than a binge gambler racks up debt in Las Vegas. The Baylor victory makes us 4-0 against Top 25 teams, 6-3 against the RPI Top 50 and 8-3 against the RPI Top 100. Resume builder, indeed.
And speaking of Vegas, how about those Runnin' Rebels, who moved to 5-2 in the Mountain West with a comeback win over Air Force? Everyone's eyes are fixated on tonight's game between league-leading BYU and New Mexico in The Pit, but don't sleep on UNLV's chances to come storming back in February...

Hmmmmmmmmmm,
perhaps I am jumping the gun, as the writeup is not yet posted, so maybe the ‘stats’ are to-be-updated – but I believe Baylor should go down as a ‘Great Win’ as their RPI is top 50?

Man, that’s a nice series of wins we’re racking up.
Grab a W in Lubbock and we can officially celebrate the rare “We Own the State of Texas” fourfecta.
I know what happened to Dayton
After our game I called my uncle (who is a Dayton alum) to give him some crap. My uncle generally talks out of his ass for the most part and he was real high on Dayton and what they could achieve. With my uncle not having any clue about the Cats or college basketball, he decided to make a $10 wager with me on who has the higher seed come March. I didn’t want to enlighten him on how hard it is for a non-elite mid-major to get a good seed, but I took the bet anyway. Easiest money I’ll ever make…
Anyway, Dayton is struggling due to my uncle’s lack of basketball knowledge. And that means they’re doomed.
Surgeon General's Warning: K-State-Mizzou basketball may increase the risk of high blood pressure. Please consult your doctor prior to watching any of these games.
Fort Hays State
They’re #3 in the Div. II polls now. They could beat a lot of Div. I teams.
Oops, the reply below (titled "KU") was supposed to go here.
They took on KU in Lawrence and got beat 107-68. Sounds bad until you remember that KU has beaten a lot of teams this year by similarly huge margins.
Of course, KU lost to Tennessee by 8 points. And K-State is better than Tennessee.
FHSU played KU this year??
I took a few looks at their 2009-2010 schedule – did not see any 107-68 games nor any game against FHSU…
--VegasCat07
It was their exhibition game.
Hail to the Purple, Hail to the White
Wildcat in spirit, Wildcat in fight
Hail Alma Mater from sea to sea
Onward forever, Hail Victory!
I would favor them to beat WSU away from Koch Arena...
The fact you needed to qualify ‘top D1 team’ with “100” (kenpom has WSU at #68 in his rankings – so 100 is close) speaks volumes. Alas, they won’t be squaring off this year – perhaps future years will have FHSU face all three D1 state-of-Kansas teams? That would be nice.

I looked them up on KenPom and saw them at 68,
I’m just not convinced they can beat any top 100 D1 team. Huge difference of athlete between the two.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
and going by that logic,
KU should win this weekend by 30. They beat FHSU by 40, you beat them by 10.
I don’t see that outcome as likely this weekend.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
Ah, but your logic
assumes the KU-FHSU game was anything but an exhibition game. If it doesn’t count, you can’t say definitively that both teams gave their best effort. I would just throw that one out, myself.
so you're saying KU should have won by 50?
And I’m not trying to take anything away from FHSU. They’re a damn good basketball team.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
I updated that today, FYI
Remember, I don’t change stuff until a team plays its next game.
So, not an error — just laziness.
