RPI WATCH: 1/12/2010
One of these days, I will learn to stop making definitive, declarative statements that allow me no room to backpedal.
Unfortunately for my pride, this isn't the day.
No sooner (pun intended) did I declare the Sooners "dead as a doornail" than the doornail jumped back to life and impaled the Cowboys. D'oh!
Big 12 teams now are 122-1 at home. Let's hope we don't become the first to lose a conference home game tonight, eh?
And kudos to Jeff Capel for putting back together a team that looked about as fractured as that backboard Tiny Gallon did a number on. Granted, it only was Oklahoma State, a team that will struggle to make the NCAA Tournament, but it was a nice rivalry win regardless, and something for the Sooners to build off in the future.

OU's going to have to win 12 games in the Big 12
to be even considered. Their non-con is atrocious and considering some of the 10-6 Wildcat teams that have been snubbed in the past, 10 wins won’t do it for them. I think it’ll be 12.
And THAT won’t happen.

what about
winning the Big 12 tourney? A team like OU could get hot and win 3 games (if they squeak out a 4th place) or maybe maybe maybe 4 straigth…

well technically yes, as well as finishing the regular season 15-1
but no. In order for any of that to happen, they must get lights-out hot for 4 games and all the teams they play go ice-cold for four games. Could happen for one or two games, but 4 games ain’t gonna happen.

I will certainly concede they have a very bleak chance
to make the Tournament. Perhaps it is my engineering side coming out a bit too strong getting all technical in the wording of things. :-)

Re: The poll in this RPI Watch.
Every Big 12 team still has a chance to make the big dance! That chance may be slim to none, or ‘one out of a million’… this brings to mind a quote from a popular comedy movie I like to use: “So you’re telling me there’s a chance… YEAH!” :-D

I agree that it would take more than 10 wins, probably 12
and I just can’t find 12 wins on their schedule. The plus for OU is that the big 12 is so tough this year that their RPI might be pretty good at 11-5 or even 10-6. But short answer….No they won’t do it. I never thought OSU was very good anyway, so beating them shouldn’t warrant too much excitement.
Wildcat for life
RPI won't do it for them
They gotta get quality wins, and a bunch of them.
Because they sure have a lot of “bad” losses.
If we got burned for losing to Oregon and Iowa, Oklahoma should be crucified for some of their losses.
+1
I guess I didn’t realize, until I just looked, how bad some of OU’s losses are! Wow.
