Curt Kitchen: Beasley no bienvenido Miami?
Rumors have surfaced this offseason that Dwyane Wade isn't thrilled with Michael Beasley. Kitchen gets to the bottom of it.

I love it how any story I read
about Mike and his “maturity” issues – the author, sources, etc. never give specific instances of child-like behavior. Does he make faces out the team bus on the way to a game? Does he play the repeat game with Pat Riley when he is talking? Does he stay out too late and drags around in practice? Does he eat too much candy causing constant tummy-aches? Oh wait, that last one was the guy who was drafted ahead of him….
What type of maturity issues are we talking about here?

I think...
…it has more to do with his work ethic than anything. The game’s always been so easy for him that he never had to work hard to be good. Now that he’s at the highest level, and he’s expected to play defense, he’s having to adjust. Either he’ll make that adjustment and become a star, or he won’t and the “Derrick Coleman” predictions will come true.

I always remember that he worked like hell though
Or am I confusing myself with somebody else?

I shouldn't say...
…that he doesn’t work hard, because anyone that good has put their time in. But on the NBA level, I think the Heat are expecting more out of him.

If it's a problem with work ethic...
why not just say “He needs to work harder,” or “He needs more time in the weight room/gym/training table/whatever,”????
Teams that draft 20 year old kids and throw them millions of dollars shouldn’t sit back and shout “We want this kid to grow up faster,” because 9 times out of 10, it’s not going to happen. If he’s producing on the court and staying out of trouble off it, leave him be. If you want him to work harder, get in his face and tell him to get his ass in the gym. Pretty simple.
Oh, and I never take anything Dougy Sticky Fingers (or any of his “sources”) says as gospel….
In this case...
…I think the Heat/Wade have actual concerns. However, you summed up the NBA dilemma perfectly. They draft these young, incredibly talented players. They give them multi-million-dollar guaranteed contracts. And then…they expect that all of a sudden that’s going to make them act like 30 year olds?
I have a simple solution, NBA. If you don’t want the negatives that come with drafting young kids, make them wait until they’re college juniors or seniors. That’s how it worked until the 1990s.

How are 30 year old athlete's supposed to act?
Like T.O.?
His job is to play with a ball, it’s really not that serious.

In case anybody is still reading this thread.
Wade’s back at it again saying if the Heat don’t do something to bring a Ring to the city of Miami - he may walk.
Anytime anybody says something like that just pisses me off. He truely believes he’s above his team and the game. “I can’t win with this team.” Well maybe you’re the problem….

Yeah, you and your 25 shots per game just might be the issue

This is just poison for a team sport:
“I’ve told Coach Riley this: All my life, all I’ve ever wanted to do is win and be put in a position where I can win and succeed,” Wade said. “Build me a team. Put the pressure on me to win a championship. Give me a team and say, ‘All right, you’ve got to go do it,’ and I’ll take that pressure. Give me guys that we feel can compete every year to win a championship. I don’t want to go anywhere else.”
I can’t believe he said “we”.
