Records obtained by The Topeka Capital-Journal show that Epps would be owed the remaining value of a five-year contract he signed in 2008 should he be terminated without cause, a buyout worth roughly $900,000 as it stands.

Jesus Christ. When will it [bleep] end?

Wunderbar

Fuck it, keep him on, Currie. Put him in some position where he isn’t allowed to do anything other than surf the Internet all day, or something. God, I’m tired of buyouts.

Make him the highest paid janitor of all time.

Make him do bathroom detail after each and every one of the football practices/games…

No because people "volunteer" to do it.

And I don’t think that’s the worst thing we could make him clean up…

So, it is unusual for associate ADs to have multi-year contracts...

Just how deep does the rabbit hole go?

I'm beginning to suspect that our ADept was a cover for some other activities...

Like international espionage or narcotics.

And why all of the buyouts?

and contracts? I don’t have a contract at my job. Maybe I should get one. I"ll need one of my bosses to secretly sign something under the table where if I get laid off they will have to pay me, let’s say, a modest $450k.

merely a silver one.

This is all a tough lesson that we are learning.

The “buddy” system in university administration is a dangerous thing. This is what happens when a University President is around for 30 years without anyone to step in and administer checks and balances. He gets his cronies in place, offers them long contracts with ridiculous salaries, and then leaves the financial mess for the next UP to clean up.

The President of the Fortune 800 company I work for doesn’t even make $900k a year. Yet, somehow Epps (a “hanger-on within the athletic department”, for lack of a better title) is worth that?

I see your point...

I think Epps is making $225,000.01per year though. The lump sum is the remaining time on the contract.
