O.J. Mayo's "advisor" given money from Tim Floyd?
Count me as one of those not surprised by this. I'm actually shocked something like this didn't come out sooner. Count this as one of the several reasons I'm glad K-State missed on Mayo.

2 things
1- This is getting out of hand. The NCAA should hammer down and do something about this. I’m not saying the death penalty is in order, but something needs to be done. Elimination of post-season play in basketball and football for a few years should send a nice little wake-up call to all the cheaters out there. Hefty fines perhaps?
2- Do you think Mayo would have been the same bad egg if he came to K-State? Who’s to say Gulliory (or however you spell that douchebag’s name) would have just dropped Mayo if he bolted to go to Manhattan? Probably not, but I’m just glad USC is stupid enough to keep building up it’s NCAA resume.

To respond to your second question...
I have a hard time believing Huggins would have dished out any cash to those in Mayo’s inner circle. For one, he already had the other big name from that year’s recruiting class in Mike Beasley, so he didn’t necessarily need another high-profile recruit. Secondly, Tim Floyd is just that type of person. There was an article in The New York Times (if I remember correctly) that played out the whole process of how Guillory contacted Floyd and essentialy played the part of an agent for Mayo. The article made it sound like Floyd would have done anything to land the kid, and he basically just let Guillory call the shots during the whole recruitment. In summary, Tim Floyd is a door mat, and he was desperate to turn USC basketball into the type of high-profile program that USC football is. He needed a big name. Guillory provided that big name. Tim Floyd provided Guillory cash.
One other funny thing. Listening to Dan Patrick this morning, he said he was surprised the dollar amount was so low. “What is that per game, like 35 bucks? That’s it?”
Made me lol.
Yeah that dollar amount didn't make much sense.
You’d almost have to assume that their must have been other payments or something.
I’d rather ask this question about the dollar amount, “What is that per tournament win?” Oh yeah that’s right – Boo-Yah.
USC – 0, K-State – 1

about Huggins
I remember Brad Underwood saying something about Huggins backing off of recruiting Mayo when Huggins heard of Mayo’s problems (probably this deal with Guillory) because it would have caused KSU a lot of trouble. I think that was reported in the Mercury a year or so ago. It’s a faint memory but I was somewhat glad then and very glad now that Mayo never came to KSU.

Love that article - gotta give credit to Huggins though
Also I loved some of the bullet points at the end:
-Bill Walker was going to return back to school if he dropped out of the first round…..Ha – damn near didn’t get drafted.
-Damn, what ever happened to David Hoskins? Is he playing some sort of pro ball overseas?

Didn't USC buy Reggie Bush's family a home or something like that?
I’d be pissed if I were an SMU fan.

That's one of the allegations
I have to believe it would take flagrant, ridiculous violations to get the death penalty these days. The NCAA saw the destruction it caused in Dallas with what it did to SMU, and I don’t think they’ll impose that penalty lightly again.
As I understand it, one of the biggest problems the NCAA is having with the USC investigation is that they can’t force anyone to talk to them. They’re not police or prosecutors, so they don’t have the ability to require anyone, under penalty of a visit to jail, to give them information. So they get initial information from these disgruntled former insiders, but then there’s nothing to back it up because nobody else will cooperate. Of course, given that it’s USC, the NCAA may not be working as hard as possible to turn anything up, hoping they can just brush this aside as a disgruntled former insider spreading lies, thus not having to hope that Rick Neuheisel can get it turned around at UCLA so they have a powerhouse football program in the second-largest city in the country.

Bring On The Cats
The article states that
this Johnson guy went to the Feds with this information and some commenter on the USC blog made some comment that since he did this, he can be held accountable for his words. Can’t that count as hard evidence then?
But I’m not sure I want my tax dollars going into an investigation like this. I’m already outraged about the BCS hearings enough.
The NCAA needs to start something. I’m pretty sure there’s going to be something on Bryce Brown turning up in the future too.

Speaking of NCAA sanctions
I can’t seem to remember, but did anything come out of the CU – Kicker – Barnett scandal besides his dismissal?
