Who: Wally Judge
What: 2009 Jordan Brand Classic
Where: New York, New York | Madison Square Garden (19,763)
When: April 18, 2009 @ 7:00 PM CST
Media: ESPN2 | ESPN360

We finally get another game on ESPN2...kind of. Kansas State commit, Wally Judge, will compete with many of the same players that he did in the McDonald's All-American game (or was supposed to before he got hurt).

Tune in and see one of the future players test himself against some of the best competition prep basketball has to offer, and toss around various unreasonable expectations and/or criticisms.

Won't be around for this one...

…but I fired up the trusty DVR so I can catch the action when I return. Go Wally!

Let's get this shit started

Baseball team stubbed their toe, so it’s basketball season again for me!

by BracketCat on Apr 18, 2009 7:02 PM CDT reply actions

Kinda some screwy starting lineups

I haven’t even heard of some of these starters, while Rivals Top 10 guys are coming off the bench. Weird.

by BracketCat on Apr 18, 2009 7:06 PM CDT reply actions

Yeah, it's kind of a bummer that Wally isn't starting...

but at least we’ll see him play.

About two minutes in, and I feel safe in saying...

that this is some of the shittiest basketball I’ve ever seen. Who’s coaching these guys? Erik Spolestra?

How does ESPN have John Wall at #5?

He’s better than anyone in this class.

Wally's in. He had some nice moves on the post, but he traveled on the baseline.

I'm sorry, but that exchange reeked of ignorance.

However, it was nice that they stopped sucking Carolina dong for a few minutes.

This commentator is definitely one of ESPiN’s worst, tho.

Yeah, let's keep asking that question. Maybe you'll keep saying our name enough that we'll become "big time"

First impressions...

Wally is a legit 6’8" or 6’9". He has a long, lean frame. Smooth moves on the post assisted by a long wingspan.

I salivate at what Greenwalt will do with this kid after two years.

He'll be at KSU for at least two years...

He won’t have the numbers to go next year. Clemete/Pullen/Kelly will dominate the stats. Judge and Samuels will provide the fireworks.

The following year…it’s on like Donkey Kong.

Note to Xavier Henry...GO TO KENTUCKY

John Calipari is a great human being, and you, John Wall, and DeMarcus Cousins need to play together. Don’t go to KU and waste your time.

Thank you. I’m 100% serious. Kentucky needs you. Go there and not that craphole, Lawrence.

DISAGREE

McGruder will be impact player next year.

I think he could play the 3 for us. If nothing else, we need more than 2 guards, and rumors are flying fast and furious about Buchi and Fred. The minutes will be available.

It appears ESPN would agree with me that

Wally has had the single most impressive dunk in this game.

They’ve only shown it 17 more times. :-)

Renardo Sidney is legit

Reminds me of Bill a little. USC will need to lean on him a ton, since they lose Gibson, Hackett and DeRozen and Solomon Hill bailed back to Arizona.

I just caught up a bit...

Jimmy Dykes: “Dalonte Hill keeps bringing those players to Manhattan, KS, which isn’t easy to do.”

Actually, Jimmy, it’s not that bad. It’s actually a pretty nice place, and most kids that visit commit.

(Sorry, Bracket, but Jimmy is one of my least favorite commentators, and he gets under my skin.)

Pretty much agree

Very much impressed with Sidney, Cousins and Orton.

I thought Bradley, Plumlee and Henry played better in Miami.

Wally slightly exceeded my expectations. Gotta love that he banged his elbow ON THE RIM and had to leave at the end.

I loved the earlier exchange...

…where one of the announcers said these players are in for an eye-opening day when they go through their first college practice.

Other guy: Why?

Why?!?!?! Umm, because they’ll be playing a bunch of guys who were good in high school, with a coach who doesn’t give a shit about their ego. God in heaven.

Thoughts on Judge...

Biggest strength: Runs the floor better than anyone I’ve seen over 6’8" in a long time. Even better than Mike.

Other strengths: Long athlete with potential to put muscle on his frame. Could be a supreme athletic big man. Think Rudy Gay.

Biggest weakness: Seems lackadaisical and takes plays off. He kind of spaces on defense from time to time, but Frank will correct that.

Overall: Great player with solid upside. Will most likely start next year on the blocks with Curtis Kelly.
