I'm not really a college baseball fan, so you can bet that if a win by the Bat Cats caught my attention, it must have been pretty significant. They downed No. 4 Arizona State 6-2 in the Sun Devils' home state and served notice that this might be the year Brad Hill finally turns the corner. The Cats are now 11-2 and, barring a complete collapse in conference play, appear to be on track for their first NCAA appearance since approximately 1878, I think.

Thanks for throwing this up here

I figured someone would get to it before I had a chance to. I think this baseball team is extremely overlooked by the K-State fanbase. Granted, it’s not a big revenue sport at a school where football was once king and basketball is re-taking the throne.

However, Brad Hill has been building this program into a Big 12 contender for the past 5 years. Last year’s trip to the Big 12 championship game must have been a wake up call. These guys are on fire so far this year. For example:

A.J. Morris: 4-0 on the season so far in only 4 starts. He may be a first-team All-Conference selection and most likely will be drafted after this season.
Justin Bloxom: Kid can rake. Another one that will probably be All-Conference.
Justin King: Only a sophomore, and already has 5 HR’s in only 13 games. He’s a kid that will be looked at as the future leader of this team.

As a team, these guys are batting .351 on the season. That’s solid. And for those like me who don’t really consider batting average an accurate stat anymore, the team on-base percentage is .447. That means our guys reach base 45% of the time. Pretty good, even by college baseball standards.

This should be an exciting year for the Bat Cats. Oh, I also wanted to point out the great marketing idea to play this series at the Royals’ spring training facility. I wish I had the time and money to make a trip down there this week and catch a Royals game AND a K-State game all in one day.

Good stuff guys

I’ve been trying to keep the rest of the conference updated by posting occasional updates over at Big 12 Hardball, but I haven’t done a good job of linkin them over here. Very nice win over ASU yesterday.

This team has a very good batting lineup, and if the pitching continues to be solid, we can look forward to a big season.

We'll carry the banner high!

was going to ask if Hill

was still around. He built a hell of a program before he came to KSU, so I’d imagine he’d have a shot there. Hopefully he gets it going strong.

I just got back from your mom's basement.
