RPI WATCH: 12/23/2009
The hit our numbers took from Pine Bluff finally showed up. I think we're still on track for an RPI Top 20 finish, though.
That literally and figuratively was a bad break for Texas A&M last night, and it really was no surprise that they lost to a decent team on the road after something like that. But the Big 12 now is 13-4 against the Pac-10, including 9-3 in the Hardwood Series, so our dominance hardly is in question.
Meanwhile, Kansas and Texas continued to stamp themselves as the best two teams in the country, although I still maintain their order should be flipped in the next AP poll.
Nebraska and Texas Tech also picked up nice, resume-building wins. Other than Colorado and Oklahoma, and maybe Missouri, this conference is looking very strong.
Hit the jump to see how our other opponents fared. All in all, another successful night for the Cats' SOS.

It pains me to say it but...
if I was a voter, I’d put Texas ahead of KU. The Jayhawks just aren’t hitting on all cylinders right now. Aldrich clearly isn’t playing up to par and KU needs to step it up defensively. Fortunately for KU fans, Bill Self’s teams always get better defensively as the season progresses and the Morris twins (of all people) have really played well and have offset some of Aldrich’s subpar play.

I have zero doubt...
…that when the competition increases, so will KU’s level of play. But if rankings are supposed to be based on who you’ve beaten and how well you’ve played, Texas should be the No. 1 team right now.
Of course, does it matter? They don’t hand out trophies for being No. 1 in December.
We'll carry the banner high!

It mattered to the KU fan who called into 810 the other day
and started crying about the lack of respect given to KU after they lost a whopping six votes to Texas.
Give me a break.

And the polls don't matter at all outside of some chest-thumping.
It’s not like the NCAA would let tradition or hype cloud any judgements about who the best team is
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
