Around SBN: Josh Hamilton Reportedly Seen Drinking In Dallas Bar

OPEN GAME THREAD: Alabama

Welcome, fellow Cat fans, to the Validation Game.

Are we going to show the consistency expected of Top 25 programs, or are we going to fall flat on our face in the Deep South and endure humiliation like Matthew Broderick in "Biloxi Blues"?

To find the answer to that question, check out:

  • Time Warner Cable Channel 20, if you live in Kansas City
  • Cox Cable Channel 98, if you live elsewhere in Kansas

That's it. If you don't meet one of those two criteria, you're doomed to Wyattvision. I'll keep an eye out for streams, but the usual source doesn't live in Kansas, so things look bleak for out-of-staters right now.

Anyone watching Texas pound North Carolina?

For my money, the Longhorns are the best team in the Big 12 — and the country — right now.

Kansas couldn’t even put 54 points on Michigan in a half, much less No. 10 North Carolina. I think Texas wins in Austin and gets the No. 1 seed in Kansas City.

by BracketCat on Dec 19, 2009 2:52 PM CST reply actions

Spoke too soon again

Texas 103, North Carolina 90

Even Dickie V said Texas is the best team, by a smidge, over Kansas.

Rank ’em #1, voters!

by BracketCat on Dec 19, 2009 3:22 PM CST up reply actions

Meh

It’s too early to tell with those two teams on who’s better. For all we know, we’re better than the both of them…

I don’t think anyone should take what “Dickie V” says too serious. His analysis and opinions are based on which teams are doing hot right now thus creating more bandwagon fans. Well except for Duke and UNC because he’s already given one of his own testicles to each one of the schools.

It's never too early to declare

that KU sucks.

My point was that EVEN Vitale can see that Texas is better. He’s usually the last one to notice things.

Xavier down 1, with the ball and 1.2 seconds

Could be a crazy finish in Indianapolis.

Too bad Drew Lavender still isn’t on their team.

by BracketCat on Dec 19, 2009 3:12 PM CST reply actions

Wow, Xavier just got fucked on the worst call I've ever seen

They ran off the clock, saying it had paused earlier and time would have expired during the last Butler shot.

Fuck that shit.

Wait’ll you see this one on SportsCenter. Quite possibly the craziest ending I’ve ever seen.

by BracketCat on Dec 19, 2009 3:21 PM CST reply actions

So would that be like saying

that Nebraska should have one the Big 12 title game because we’re pretty sure the refs earlier in the game stopped the clock a little too early?

Totally different situations, dude

One was a dead-ball situation.

This was live-ball.

Not even remotely comparable.

by BracketCat on Dec 19, 2009 8:22 PM CST up reply actions

Sports Center thought it was right

I like replay and giving the refs a chance to fix it, but my thing with that play was that Butler would have seen that they had less time and they would have had to play that last 14 seconds differently. Maybe they would have been in too much of a hurry and screwed themselves over.

Should have left it at what it was. Xavier probably didn’t have much of a chance anyway.

Just Wabash already!

by AlwaysaWildcat on Dec 20, 2009 12:52 AM CST up reply actions

My biggest problem is that the refs took the game out of the hands of the players

It might technically have been the wrong call, but it’s like ending an NFL game on a penalty and a 10-second runoff: Completely unsatisfying and anticlimactic.

I don’t care how long-shot the odds were. I’ve seen crazier finishes in the NCAA tournament with less time on the clock. The game should be decided by the 10 guys on the floor, not the three in stripes.

I think the rule should be changed such that a minimum of 0.5 second must remain, no matter what. At least give them a chance at a last-second miracle shot. It’s not their fault the homer Butler clock operator screwed them with either incompetence or malice.

OK, so how far do we move up?

Ahead of us, these teams lost today (most of them ugly):

No. 9 Tennessee
No. 10 North Carolina
No. 11 Georgetown
No. 13 Florida
No. 15 Gonzaga
No. 16 Texas Tech

I’m thinking 12th in the AP or so.

Yeah, but that won't happen in Bramlage

I only see two teams that I think could come into Bramlage and play well enough to win: Kansas and Texas.

I’m much more concerned about road games.
