Yeah, this is curious.
Waiting for more information. The KU Star earlier mentioned it was in relation to a player. Did he eat somebody? Is somebody missing? Perhaps they need to do a head count. Of course, J/K…
I think it's more...
…a case of Perkins finding the excuse he needed to boot Mangino. It’s just interesting to me that these issues would all of the sudden surface in midst of a five game losing streak. Of course, it’s all just speculation at this point.
I think that's precisely what this is
Lew is building the case for his dismissal that’s why this stuff is coming to light now.
But let’s be honest – this crap has been going on for a while, behind closed doors. Mangino has serious anger control issues.
They're talking about it on 810 right now.
Kietz is declaring it a mutiny.
Supposedly Mangino struck and/or has been abusive to several players, including Onyegbule, Darius Parish and Angus Quigley.
Complaints have been filed.
Grassroots campaign to make Clint Bowen the interim coach.
Please, God, let this happen.
More to come…
This is hilarious
Kietz and Clinkscale basically are already piling dirt on his coaching grave.
I’ll come out and say it:
I don’t care if Lewcifer goes and hires Urban Meyer. I’m just glad to see Mangino get his (if this happens).
I think he’s an absolutely classless piece of shit and I love to see karma strike. What goes around, comes around, you fat bastard.
After the crap he pulled...
…when he left K-State, I agree. Perkins is a ruthless bastard and he’s got Mangino by the balls. If Mangino tries to fight this, Perkins will smear him so badly he’ll never get another D-1 coaching gig.
Also, Lew may be able to go and get a great coach at a lower tier school similar to Brian Kelly at Cincinatti. Better pay, great facilities, a mediocre conference division, and Lew’s commitment to pulling out all the stops for the program (cough, Orange Bowl, cough). However, I don’t think this job is all that attractive under the surface. The biggest reason is the proverbial elephant in the room….KU basketball. That is #1 priority of the fans, donors, and supporters. I don’t think a high caliber coach will come there when they have the option of going to a big name football school instead.
Wow, Kietzman just jumped Danny's case
Danny was trying to say that like Snyder, Mangino is not a “player’s coach” and that role is filled more by people like Bowen.
Kietz slightly misunderstood him and said, “That will be the last time today you compare Mangino to Snyder. They are nothing alike, except that they worked together.”
Ouch. Who says Kietz isn’t purple?
What's up guys...
KU Fan here just perusing the world and seeing how everyone is weighing in on this deal.
Bracket – your comment struck me because I’d agree that Snyder and Mangino are similar in that way but I think as a KU fan it’s pretty clear that Snyder does so in a disciplined controlled way while Mangino is pretty clearly impulsive with his actions and often irrational. It was bound to catch up with him.
This started actually prior to the CU game. I’m wondering now how much of the losing streak is a result of this as opposed to how much this coming to light is a result of the losing streak.
That's what we do at Kansas, we WIN.

Maybe so
But I agree with Kietz in that they couldn’t possibly be more different in how they comport themselves in public.
And the difference between the two programs in terms of NCAA violations and questionable behavior couldn’t be wider.
I don’t pay a whole lot of attention to all that to be honest. I’m not a big money donor, I don’t have a thing to do with AD decisions so I don’t draw my morals from the athletic department. I went to school there, I’m happy I did and I’ll continue to root for them regardless. College sports plain and simple is a business anymore.
Like I said before though, I’ve always respected what Snyder has done and the way he’s done it. I enjoyed the Orange Bowl, was happy that the Jayhawks were successful, but I’ve always been a little leary of Mangino’s demeanor.
That's what we do at Kansas, we WIN.

It's long been rumored...
…that Perkins and Mangino didn’t get along and that Perkins wanted his own man in there after he got to KU. Unfortunately for Mangino, I think he played right into Perkins hands with his behavior. I wouldn’t even be surprised if Perkins set him up to fail with the whole “History Awaits” campaign.
Reminiscing is fun
Mark Mangino, 2007: “I helped build this program and now I’m going to tear it down.” (re: K-State)
Mark Mangino, 2009: “These sorts of things happen when you lose five games in a row.”
Bill Snyder, 2009: “Say my name, bitch!”
Not really
They’d call a players-only meeting and invite Ron Prince along to answer questions.
Jeez, what a bunch of clowns we had less than a year ago. Thank the Lord for John Currie.
This is funny
At least Ron Prince didn’t hit anybody….
…he just made them run stairs….

No,
Matt Boss got run off by Prince. He was a big strong kid, but kinda slow…obviously not in the Prince mold anyway.
More of a "LOLWTF"?

With everything that's gone on recently with KU and "violence"
I wouldn’t be the least surprised to learn that Bill Self beats puppies….
I’m sorry, that was uncalled for. I apologize…to puppies…

I was told he also said
on 810 that he didn’t think Mangino would be out before the end of the season.
Hm
The tweet was just 20 minutes ago or so, so maybe he heard something new.
I guess we’ll see. Promises to make the week fun… and more important, maybe take some pressure and attention off our flop on Saturday.
Woo Hoo
Take THAT Isiah Thomas!

Holy crap
is K-State actually going to have a post game?
That should set the tone for Jacob to have a huge senior season.

True story
I started rattling off our 2010 forwards to my dad, and I had listed six or so, when he stopped me and said, “What about Wally Judge?”
Yes, I actually forgot about a five-star freshman ranked No. 22 by Rivals.com because he comes off the bench and hasn’t shown too much yet.
That’s how freakin’ stacked we are.
More on Mangino
Kietz said he has sources saying players/seniors threatened to transfer and even not get onto the plane to Austin, unless Mangino is let go.
Wow. That redefines revolt.
It amazes me
that they’ve won even 5 games with that type of leadership.
And I thought fat people were supposed to be jolly and nice, you know since they can’t ever depend on their looks…

Mangino has lost his Lew Perkins protection privileges.

Well, he's of Italian descent
So, combined with other visual evidence, I am forced to conclude that he really likes pizza.
A lot.
To be honest...his hands are on pretty fricken short leashes...
I don’t think they can say a lot.

How quickly they turn...
A year or so removed from the Orange Bowl and now they want him out…college football is a rough sport to coach…especially FBS. If he did something abusive I could see his firing but considering all of the off field antics going on in Lawrence I think the whole athletic department should be under scrutiny by the Board of Regents. Is this perhaps a ploy to distract from the earlier shenanigans or something more specific to Mangino? Hopefully there will be some transparency coming out of this for the sake of the university and its alumni. We K-Staters received a nice dose of reality from Krause’s secret mess…now it is time to see what’s up behind Perkin’s door as well.
SOL
Sounds like Gino’s run out of luck.
