OPEN GAME THREAD: Western Illinois

I guess the key question for today's basketball game is: Did Frank leave enough players alive after yesterday's practice to field a full team today?

Discuss the game and anything else you want -- including but not limited to continued commiseration after yesterday's ugly football loss -- in the comments.

Yo yo yo

Time for Frank’s fanatics to get the message and execute. Puerto Rico is just around the corner.

We're losing 8-7

Three new players waiting to come in. I’m guessing Frank is pissed again.

DENIS FOR THREE!!!

15-12 Cats. Two consecutive offensive boards for Wally.

Dom's looking like crap gain

Brings nothing on offense and now I’m not even seeing him rebound well.

I tell you what: As Nick and Wally pick up defense more and more, I’m not so sure it won’t be Dom who ends up the odd man out in the rotation. He really needs to pick up his game.

Jam Sam with a potential three-point play

He keeps this up, he’s gonna take Dom’s starting spot and never look back.

Dom hasn't been in for a while

Already proving my prediction true. Jamar has just been a manimal today.

1 of 11 from 3-point range

Yuck. Merriewether just took one and missed. Why on earth would he have the green light on that?

31-20 at halftime

Held them to 20 again. Offense is ragged. They’re getting a lot of layup looks, and our best defense there is when we get blocked shots.

Frank said we’re still a terrible basketball team right now and don’t practice well, and that we need to find a way “to hang on and win.”

Not really want you want to hear heading into P.R.

Lots of frosh getting in right now

Dom is MIA this half.

Rodney and Jake with consecutive threes. Starting to blow it up a little now.

The defense is feeding the offense.

Wally with a sweet baby hook and a nice rebound.

But he missed two straight free throws. Baby steps.

75-43

All frosh, except Kelly.

Wally swishes two free throws

After missing a bunch.

Freshmen and focus. What can I say?

Rodney runs the court. Now has 11 points.

JHR is in. All frosh now.

by BracketCat on Nov 15, 2009 4:57 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

JHR has 10 rebounds

6 points, 5 blocks

He’s gonna be AWESOME by January.

82-50

Wally in double figures. Great footwork on that jumper.

Thanks for the updates, BracketCat

I missed the entire game while at a high school play that was postponed from Friday due to a power outage.

Underwood said on the TV postgame...

…that Frank was sending a message to Dom. Said that he has the potential to be one of the best defenders in the league, but he needs to be that player. Said it wasn’t anything physical (insinuated all mental). Said it was nothing more than sending a message, and thought Dom would be fine.

Underwood also said...

…that Jamar approached the coaching staff after he started on Friday, that he is more comfortable coming off the bench. So, I would expect him to fill the 6th man role going forward.
