What? One of the Morris twins is in trouble? I'm shocked! Shocked, I say!

Oh, but it gets even better. It involves a car belonging to a former KU player/booster. And an underage girl. Beautiful.

Mr. Morris is a tad more important to the Jayhawks' success than Brady Morningstar. Think he'll get suspended for a full semester, too? I wonder...

No one puts the U and the K in lacK of institUtional control like the University of Kansas.

At any rate, I'm looking forward to a third-straight week of The Drive where Keegan and Romary are forced to explain this crap.

Eh

I’m not really sure this qualifies as news. Though I am going to speculate, for shits and giggles only, that Pollard illegally gave his car to TT, then the one Morris twin – while drinking – was having “sexual relations” with the 16 year old, then crashed into the other car. Who was in the other car you ask? Why it’s none other than sweet Lew himself – no charges were obviously filed – and everybody went home happily ever after. And I’m not sure when or how, but I’m pretty sure they’re leaving out the part where he may have killed baby kittens…..while taking the lord’s name in vain….

And in all seriousness, if the facts are true in the article, this definitely does not warrant any suspension at all. Sounds like a normal minor car accident.

Except the twist is...

…that he was driving a car owned by a former KU player. It would be against NCAA rules for athletes to be driving around cars owned by boosters/fans/former players. OK, so Pollard and Marchiony claim it was sold to Tyshawn Taylor. Then why did it show up as belonging to Pollard when the cop ran the tags?

Well, it took a few months for my car to officially become my car.

Even though the title was in my name, it was only in my name on paper. It wasn’t in any system for the few months before I moved to Texas and got a Texas title. Unless I did something wrong, that could be a reason why the car was still under Pollard’s name.

That being said, I’m not saying this isn’t sounding a little fishy.

Marchioni and pollard making fools of themselves on 810 today and it gets interesting.

Didn't hear them on the radio

but one could only assume that they would make fools of themselves anyway…

It warrants a suspension (at a normal school), because...

…you will NOT convince me alcohol was not involved when the incident occurred after 1 a.m., multiple females were present and Morris already has had an alcohol violation on campus.

It’s no different than what Morningstar did. But because there was no “visual sign of impairment” (what, hitting another car isn’t good enough), no Breathalyzer was administered.

Hell, this is Markieff Morris we’re talking about here. Just walking to class, he probably exhibits visual signs of mental impairment. Not exactly the top rung on the ladder, if you know what I mean.

Now BracketCat

If we are to assume that Pollard owns the vehicle because the police report says so, then it’s only fair to assume that no alchohol was involved because the report says the driver (Morris) was not impaired. That is not something police officers in any city ignore or take lightly.

Yeah, usually an officer...

…will look for reasons to think you’re intoxicated. Just given the nature of the wreck (Morris hit the rear door on the driver’s side while making a left turn…think about it), I would have thought the officer would have asked some questions, but who am I to question an officer’s judgment?

Either way, I know that it’s extremely odd that a car would still show up as registered to Pollard more than a month after it was supposedly sold. Marchiony and Pollard can howl all they want that it was sold, but until there’s an explanation for why it still showed up under Pollard’s name, this thing isn’t over.

Valid argument

But I bet Self still imposes some kind of internal punishment, if only for putting himself in a stupid position to begin with. (And that’s assuming no violation took place, which still is completely up in the air.)

I definitely know of cops who have failed to administer tests when they should have, due to the status of the person they pulled over. That’s because I live in a town where corruption is the name of the game. I’m real touchy about that stuff, because of the people I’ve known who have been killed by DUIs. Not cool.

Believe me

I know what you’re talking about. But it’s just a lot of speculation at this point with only a lot of heresay.

I was wrong the other day

when I said KU’s probation was over. While I was correct that the scholarship restrictions were no longer in effect, I incorrectly assumed that also meant probation was over. Probation is officially over October 11th (I hope). ;-)

Thanks for being a good sport about everything

We’ve been giving you guys a lot of shit lately, but you can’t say it isn’t at least somewhat deserved given what’s been going on.

Next January should be fun as hell, don’t ya think?

Wow, just wow.

Mr. Pollard, how old are you? How much time at KU did you actually spend studying? Seriously dude – quit it with the frickin’ explamation marks! I’m really surprised I didn’t see any LOL’s on your blog.

Good grief.

Updated Story by Kitchen

Taylor owns the vehicle

Where was this information yesterday? Pollard not being the owner of the vehicle is a rather important piece of information.

Kietzman told a caller to his radio show that this was “airtight reporting” by his station. Not this time. 810 tried to get the KU athletic department to respond to the story before running with it. That was absolutely the logical thing to do. Failing to get a response from the athletic department (no surprise there – Kietzman’s not too popular in the KU athletic dept.), 810 then also contacted the Big 12 and the NCAA (not cool – but I’m sure earned him brownie points with the MIzzou and KSU faithful). Again no response.

There’s 1 more call that needs to be made in this “investigation” – a call to Scot Pollard. He’s not hard to get a hold of. Kietzman said they didn’t call Pollard because he’s not the story. He repeatedly said that on the air. I couldn’t disagree more. If Pollard’s name is not mentioned in the report (and there is no crime committed) there is no story. How they thought there was no need to call Pollard is beyond me. At the very least, they could have simply asked him if he owned the Tahoe involved in the accident.

Hindsight is always 20/20 but I’m still disappointed 810 didn’t investigate the story better before presenting it on the air Wednesday.

By the way, Kietzman repeatedly said on the air “I don’t have a side on this” and “I don’t have a dog in this.” Right. He’s about as unbiased as Kellis Robinnett (sp?).

Perhaps they cried "wolf"... this time

But you guys better get used to every little thing being put under a magnifying glass.

That tends to happen when one’s university has a history of infractions and lack of control, and then a huge brawl breaks out between players. Things that might otherwise have gone ignored become stories.

So please, spare us the aggrieved victim act.

Usually...

…having a police report that says the vehicle is owned by somebody is sufficient reporting. In this case, for whatever reason, it wasn’t. I don’t see how calling Pollard is any more necessary than calling the KU athletic department. He’s going to say the same thing they are, but the question remained the whole time: why in the hell was Pollard listed as the owner?

It’s a mistake, no doubt about it. I don’t fault Kitchen here, he did what he was supposed to do. I also don’t agree that you can just take Marchiony’s initial statement at face value, given the way he acted on the air. But it’s cleared up now. This is a dead issue.

If the car was not registered yet

and still had temporary tags on it (i.e. there’s no license plate to run), then police run the VIN to see who the owner is (this is according to my brother who is a police officer). If Taylor had not registred the car, the VIN would still be associated with Pollard.

Pollard is named as the owner of the vehicle. I think getting a comment from Pollard – at the very least confirmation that he does nor does not own the vehicle – is quite relevant to the investigation. In my opinion, 810 left 1 base uncovered that could have easily been addressed and diffused the significance of the story.

Oh and I agree

Marchiony did not come across well on the air but he did provide information that would have been good to know before breaking the story.

He was prepared to state that Pollard had sold the car to Taylor and that the sale had been cleared by the compliance office but seemed to be clueless about any other details such as the fact that Morris had been in an accident. He was clearly not ready for any follow-up questions and then…kind of bizarrely…just went silent.
