I really think

that we might have a chance in this one. I think if Gregory starts and our pass defense shows up to play, plus if Harold starts and provides some pass rushing we could really have a fighting chance.

However, I’m also guilty of senseless optimism.

You're a fan...

…it’s to be expected. A lot of things would have to go right, but at least this isn’t the Tech juggernaut from last season.

And

we’re not (knock on wood) the same type of team we were last year – giving up at the end of games and letting juggernaut’s walk all over us.

I am expecting a game within 10 points. Well, maybe thinking possible rather than expecting…

I think Taylor Potts being out will end up being great as well, even though admittedly I know NOTHING about TT, aside from the fact that this year they are Crabtree-devoid and went 0-1 in conference play so far. Never know, this could be one that we jack from somebody. I think it’s that kinda day.

Tech is going to...

…just plug in another QB and keep on trucking. There won’t be much dropoff. I saw their third-string QB (a true freshman) play last fall in Houston, and if he’s their third stringer, they have some talent. We have to get some pressure on whoever is in there. If we don’t, they’ll pick us apart.

All right, the word is out on KU

Their defense officially sucks. Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech are going to light them up like a Christmas tree.

And Suh will make Reesing his personal golf tee. My fears about a KU North title are diminishing by the week.

You just knew...

…that Arnaud was going to miss on that last throw. I mean, it’s Iowa State. Whatever can happen to make them lose in the absolute most painful manner possible will, in fact, happen.

Instead of Jack Trice Stadium

They should rename it Jack Murphy (as in Murphy’s Law) Stadium.

by BracketCat on Oct 10, 2009 3:08 PM CDT up reply actions

Jack "House of Horrors" Stadium

Seriously, they’ve found new and creative ways to rip out the hearts of their fans.

Missing field goals two straight years with a chance to win the North? Check

Hiring a coach who went 5-a billion his two years there, then wins five straight at his new job? Check.

Losing a game last week when an extra point was blocked? Check

Losing a game this week by five when they missed two PATs, a field goal, and had a receiver wide open on a fourth down play that would have put them ahead? Check.

Thank God...

…I was getting ready to write that any hopes of keeping this game relatively close have pretty much gone out the window. Maybe we can use this to get back in the game, but it’s plain as day our defense can’t stop Tech. We may offer a little more resistance than last year, but we won’t be stopping them. Can only hope to chew up the clock and finish off drives. The problem is that, the more plays we run, the more likely we are to get called for a drive-killing penalty.

--VegasCat07

by VegasCat07 on Oct 10, 2009 9:28 PM CDT reply actions

ouch...so much for not allowing 550-600 yards...

On defense poor tackling, absolutely no pressure on the qb, defensive backs looking in on single coverage with no deep safety help over the top and getting smoked to the end-zone. Players standing around at the line trying to make arm tackles on rbs instead of taking their gap assignment. On special teams we had no real returns of significance almost looked like banks was stuck in a quagmire trying to wait for the wall to punch holes for the return. Note to the coaches get him on the perimeter with space and let him create chaos with his feet. On offense no qb protection, coffman is just too inaccurate, gregory looked befuddled, more dropped passes, passes behind receivers, passes in the dirt, the stands, to cheerleaders…you fill in something here for fun. I am not sure why we don’t adopt an NFL approach to our running game and have both Thomas and Valentine alternate? The combo would be hard to stop. Where oh where have the slant passes gone? Receiver screens? Wheel routes? Our third down play calling is just bad. Why are we running the “wildcat” on 3rd and 8 in the middle of the field? Seriously did we think Tech wouldn’t see that coming? The report card on this game is not going to be pretty.
